8: Chapter 8 I am an evil god, why are you sending me golden light of merit?

"Hullo! Hullo!"

Two enraged wild boars chased four Skeleton Ghosts into Little Yao Mountain.

The boars were massive, easily two to three meters long, and their running made the ground tremble.

Especially their pair of tusks, protruding over a foot long from their lips!

The tips of the tusks gleamed with a cold light.

Even if these two boars weren't fully demonized, they were close.

Who knows how the four ghost servants provoked them, but the boars, eyes red and panting heavily, pursued them relentlessly.

They didn't even care about the scent left behind by the wolf pack around them.

They charged straight ahead!

However fast they were, the speed of the White Bone Ghoul was even faster.

They almost flew, skimming just above the ground.

Suddenly.

As they flew.

The Skeleton Ghosts abruptly turned to the sides.

The wild boars, blinded by rage, suspected nothing and followed, turning to continue the chase.

*Plop! Plop!*

Watching the white bones float past, they fell one after another into a deep pit that had appeared out of thin air.

Emitting two dull thuds.

"Second Uncle! Second Uncle!"

Little Leopard, one of the four skeletons, opened his jaw and shouted, "Quick, quick, quick!"

At his call, the two taller skeletons jumped into the pits, seizing the chance to kill the large boars.

In the next instant, a flash of bloody light, and the flesh and blood of the boars vanished.

"Pull them out of the pit." Feng Yifan's voice sounded in the ears of his subordinates.

Hearing the order, Second Uncle Li and the other White Bone Ghoul each grabbed two tusks and hauled the boars, now only skin and bones, out of the trap.

Then they split open the boar skins and extracted the skeletons.

Scattered them to the side.

A halo of light flew from the Mountaintop Temple, landing on the scattered boar skulls.

Under a golden light, the boar bones reassembled, the two tusks positioned forward as the main part, connected to the spine, transforming into something bizarre-looking.

The other boar was treated the same way.

This made the Skeleton Ghosts stare wide-eyed.

"This... isn't this a plow?"

Though not exactly the same, at first glance, it was clearly a farming plow!

The White Bone Ghoul immediately understood somewhat, each becoming excited.

The clan members were reclaiming wasteland, lacking proper tools.

With this thing, it would be a huge help!

And these large boar tusks looked sharp.

Perfect for plowing the land!

They hurriedly wanted to carry the two strange-looking plows down the mountain.

"What's the rush?"

Feng Yifan's voice came again, "Go kill a big snake first."

The Skeleton Ghosts dared not delay and quickly turned to find a big snake.

The Mountain God said a big snake, so a small one definitely wouldn't do.

It had to be at least several zhang long and a palm's width thick.

The area around Little Yao Mountain was barren, so definitely none there.

Fortunately, over the next mountain ridge in the neighboring range, there were plenty of beasts.

The wild boars had been lured from there.

They didn't dare go too deep inside; there were extremely powerful beings there.

They searched for a long time at the edges and finally saw a large snake coiled on a tree branch.

The four Skeleton Ghosts spent some effort, worked together to kill it, and carried it back.

They feared the boars because of their charge and trample, which could scatter and shatter their bones.

But they weren't afraid of this snake.

The ghosts had practiced with Feng Yifan all night, absorbing spiritual and demonic energy. Buried underground earlier, they also absorbed moonlight essence, making some progress.

They could even combine their efforts to channel ghost energy, performing some minor tricks to confuse people.

Dealing with a big patterned snake was more than enough.

Carrying the dead snake back, Second Uncle Li and Sanhei carried the middle, Uncle Shitou and Little Leopard took the head and tail.

"Uncle! This big patterned snake is quite plump!" Little Leopard, dragging the snake tail behind, couldn't help but say.

It was so heavy it prevented him from floating.

Once the ghosts carried the snake to the foot of Little Yao Mountain, it became easier.

As they walked past, only the snake skin and bones remained.

"Pull out the bones." Feng Yifan said.

The Skeleton Ghosts, of course, obeyed.

Soon after, an even stranger object appeared.

The snake's spine remained intact, but the ribs on one side were attached in reverse.

"Take it and those two Boar-Bone Plows down the mountain." Feng Yifan, seeing the ghosts still dumbfounded, spoke up, "When you get to the fields, pour ghost energy into the snake skull's crown, activate it, and you'll know what it's for."

It wasn't that he wanted to be mysterious.

He just couldn't explain it clearly and was too lazy to waste words.

The ghosts didn't understand but first bowed in thanks before running off to move the bone plows.

...

One incense stick's time later.

The Li Clan settlement.

In the fields being reclaimed.

The soil churned as if mud dragons were rolling underground.

"This, this this!"

"Could this be a divine miracle?"

The Old Clan Leader's mouth opened and closed.

Someone beside him couldn't help exclaiming.

"Calling it a divine miracle might not be entirely accurate." Another person said, "Didn't we all see? It was Second Uncle Li and the others who slapped that snake head, and it burrowed underground to till the land."

"But Second Uncle Li was also saved by the Mountain God. Though not completely saved, just a skeleton now, but I reckon he's even more capable than when he was fully human."

Even knowing the Snake Bone Plow required magic to activate, and Second Uncle Li's group had meager power—so it could only be used for one incense stick's time before needing to rest for an hour or two—they were still overjoyed.

Just this one incense stick's time was worth more than an hour of their hard work.

Not to mention the two boar plows.

Although these two had to be used like regular plows, one lifting and one pushing. But those tusks were sharp, no worse than iron ones.

Much better than the wooden ones they had made.

Looking again, the halo from the boundary marker had expanded its coverage a bit further.

They couldn't help but be even happier.

This meant the land they could Cultivate would also increase.

"With these three plows, our lives have hope!"

Especially the Snake Bone Plow, which could even be used to dig wells.

The well ordered by the Divine Master was finally dug.

"This well is good!"

"The water that comes out is clear!"

"Everyone, come taste it! It's a good well, the water is sweet!"

The clansmen digging the well shouted.

"Really?" Someone didn't believe it, "Are we so fortunate to drink from a sweet water well?"

Sweet water?

Isn't all water in the world bitter?

Sweet water wells were something only nobles living in big cities, protected by Divine Might, had the fortune to drink.

But the crowd gathered, took a sip.

It was actually sweet!

"This is all the Mountain God's blessing!"

The Old Clan Leader drank the water, wiped his mouth, instantly feeling his fatigue swept away, and said decisively, "The Mountain God is compassionate!"

"Seeing our hardship reclaiming land without tools, He took pity. Not only bestowing tools but also this sweet water well. Hurry, follow me in thanking the Mountain God!"

Saying this, he knelt and kowtowed first.

The other clansmen saw this and followed suit, bowing down.

This gratitude was much more sincere.

On one hand, thanking the Mountain God for the tools.

On the other, feeling a sense of having narrowly escaped disaster.

Since the Mountain God was willing to bestow such things upon them, presumably He wouldn't easily take their lives.

In the future, only the wolf pack led by the Wolf King remained a threat.

"Although... a god being this kind defies logic, for us, it's ultimately a good thing." The Old Clan Leader couldn't help but sigh.

As he sighed, the smile on his face didn't fade, laugh lines creeping uncontrollably to the corners of his eyes.

As the people knelt in worship, as the bone plows moved through the fields.

Tiny specks of golden light converged toward the peak of Little Yao Mountain.

...

Mountaintop Temple.

Feng Yifan stared dumbfounded at the ball of golden light before him.

"No way, I'm an evil god!"

"And you're sending me merit golden light?"
