His sharp gaze swept over the filthy scene, his jaw tightening when he saw Liora tied, bruised, and torned clothed. His long strides took him straight to her side, and without a single word, he knelt down and began removing the bindings from her wrists.

His hands were steady, but his expression was ice-cold. Controlled and Lethal.

The vines resisted him at first—dark, poisoned things—but they shriveled like dry twigs the moment he touched them, as if too afraid to stay wrapped around her in his presence.

Liora could barely speak.

Her lips parted, but no sound came. She only stared at him, eyes wide, trying to understand if this was real.

Xu Kai took off his long coat and wrapped it around her gently, covering her completely. Then, finally, he spoke.

"Are you hurt anywhere else?" His voice was low and quiet, but every syllable vibrated with restrained anger.

She blinked, then shook her head slowly. "N-no... Just weak... the poison..."

Xu Kai’s eyes darkened.

He turned, his gaze falling on the pathetic form of Lang Yao groaning against the cave wall. The man tried to crawl away, dragging his broken limbs.



Xu Kai stood.

And walked toward him with slow, unhurried steps.

Liora didn’t stop him.

She had no intention of stopping it—let that bastard get the beating he deserved. Clearly, he had more than a few screws loose in his head.

She just pulled the coat tighter around her trembling body and watched.

"Xu... Xu Kai! I-It was a misunderstanding!" Lang Yao squealed, panic breaking his voice. "I was just teaching her a lesson! She’s wild, she needs taming, y-you understand, right?!"

The moment he opened his filthy mouth, a loud crack echoed.

Xu Kai had stepped forward and stomped on his wrist—shattering it cleanly.

"AAAGHHH!"

Lang Yao shrieked, twisting in agony.

Xu Kai didn’t stop.

He crouched beside him, silent and composed, and grabbed Lang Yao by the jaw.

"I could kill you with a single thought," he said quietly. "But death is too kind."

His fist landed on Lang Yao’s nose, breaking it instantly.

Blood poured down his face.

Xu Kai then grabbed his shoulder and twisted.

Lang Yao howled again, louder this time, like a pig being butchered.

Liora flinched. She turned her face away—not out of pity for Lang Yao, but because the sound was almost too satisfying. She itched to land a few punches of her own, but alas, her body was still too weak.

But still, her eyes were drawn back to the scene.

Xu Kai’s tall figure stood firm, his back straight and unyielding like a fortress wall. Each strike he delivered was precise, cruel, and without hesitation.

He didn’t use any of his powers or weapons—this was pure, brutal punishment. Xu Kai struck him blow after blow, each punch landing with terrifying precision, shattering bone after bone. Lang Yao writhed in agony, wishing he were dead rather than being beaten like this. It wasn’t just a fight—it was torture, deliberate and merciless.

Lang Yao’s sobs turned into wet gurgles as bones snapped one by one—fingers, ribs, knees. His body twitched and twisted, a mangled puppet under the executioner’s hand.

"You should’ve kept your filthy hands to yourself," Xu Kai said, grabbing him by the hair and slamming his face into the stone floor. "Don’t touch what’s mine."

Blood smeared the ground. Lang Yao could no longer scream—his jaw was broken.

He only whimpered.

Liora stared at Xu Kai’s back, her heart thudding in her chest. There was no hesitation in him. No mercy or any kind of confusion. Only burning rage and silent resolve.

Her eyes sparkled unconsciously. No one had ever protected her like this. No one had ever arrived when she was truly at her lowest and lifted her from the abyss.

And now, this man—who always stood distant and cold—was here, wrapping her in his coat, avenging her without question.

As if sensing her gaze, Xu Kai stopped.

He let go of Lang Yao’s hair. The man collapsed on the floor like a broken sack of meat, barely breathing.

Xu Kai turned back to Liora.

Without a word, he walked over, scooped her into his arms, and held her horizontally.

Her body tensed immediately. "I-I can walk..."

A single glance from him silenced her.

His eyes said, Let me. So she didn’t argue again. She could feel his warmth through the coat. His arms were strong, stable—carrying her like she weighed nothing.

When they reached the entrance of the cave, Liora saw the moonlight spilling onto the mountain path, lighting the dark night like silver threads. She rested her cheek against his shoulder, still dazed by everything that had happened.

And then—just as they crossed the threshold—Xu Kai’s eyes flickered.

A red glow flashed across his irises for a brief second and Behind them, Lang Yao’s broken body twitched.

A violent blast erupted from within—like a sudden explosion of internal energy.

A gust of hot wind blew past them.

But Xu Kai didn’t look down. His expression didn’t change. He simply tightened his hold on her protectively and said in a low, calm voice, "Don’t look."

His tone left no room for questions. It was final. Cold. Protective.

Then, without another word, he turned his gaze forward and kept walking—his steps steady, unbothered by the destruction behind him.

Liora looked back one last time, her heart still pounding.

But all she saw was darkness.
