163: Chapter 163 Scarlet Eyes!
The faint sound of footsteps in this currently deathly silent environment was so clear it made one's scalp tingle.
Su Changge's muscles tensed instantly, every nerve stretched to its limit.
Behind him?
How was that possible!
The stone crevice where he was hiding had a solid mountain wall behind it; there was no path at all. The sound was coming from the other side of the rock pile!
Stiffly, bit by bit, he turned his neck and looked toward the direction of the sound.
Through a gap in the rocks, he saw a pair of eyes.
A pair of eyes emitting a faint red glow in the darkness.
It wasn't a reflection. Rather, they were like two glowing embers of charcoal, emitting light themselves. The crimson light was filled with violence, hunger, and undisguised killing intent.
Those eyes were quietly watching the direction where he was hiding in the darkness.
Discovered!
Only this single thought remained in Su Changge's mind.
Immediately after, more crimson spots of light lit up in the darkness. One pair, two pairs, three pairs... there were as many as five or six pairs!
They slowly walked out from the shadows of the rock pile, exposed under the blood-colored moonlight.
Only then did Su Changge see their appearance clearly.
It was a squad of humanoid creatures.
They were draped in tattered, ragged black robes, which were covered in tears and dried, dark bloodstains. Large hoods covered their faces, making it impossible to see their specific features. The only thing exposed were those eyes, like rubies yet filled with a beast-like, brutal killing intent.
They all held weapons in their hands.
The styles of those weapons were very primitive, appearing to be fashioned from the bones of some unknown giant beast. Some were sharp bone spears, some were heavy bone clubs, and others were ribs shaped like scimitars. The tips of the weapons still bore dark red, not-yet-dried bloodstains.
After discovering Su Changge, this squad of Black-robed People did not attack immediately.
They moved with an eerie yet steady pace, silently spreading out to form a semi-circular encirclement. They completely blocked off the rock pile where Su Changge was hiding, as well as all possible escape routes.
"Hiss... ho..."
One of the Black-robed People let out an unintelligible snarl from its throat. The voice was hoarse and low, like a worn-out bellows being pulled; it didn't sound like a noise a human could make at all.
The other Black-robed People followed with similar snarls, one after another. They seemed to be communicating in this manner, or perhaps they were intimidating their cornered prey.
Hiding in the stone crevice, Su Changge's heart sank to the bottom.
He could clearly feel the aura emanating from these Black-robed People. Every single one was far stronger than him. Though that oppressive feeling was different from a Cultivator's Spiritual Pressure, in terms of danger level, it was even more formidable.
If he had to measure them by the Realms he was familiar with, the weakest in this squad of Black-robed People was likely equivalent to a Cultivator in the Late Stage of Qi Refining. And the leader, the tallest among them holding a massive bone spear, gave him a feeling even more dangerous than the Foundation Establishment Stage Cultivators he had encountered before!
This was an encounter with no chance of victory.
Fleeing was impossible. Fighting was even more futile.
Su Changge's brain worked rapidly. He had spent several years in the Eastern Desolation and encountered countless dangerous situations, surviving every time by relying on calm judgment and decisive action. But the current situation was a desperate straits he had never faced before.
The opponent's strength was overwhelming, they had the advantage in numbers, and the terrain was blocked off. His internal spiritual energy hadn't even recovered to thirty percent, and it was unknown whether the Talismans and Medicinal Pills in his Storage Pouch would even work in this strange world.
More crucially, he knew nothing about these Black-robed People. He didn't know their weaknesses, their attack patterns, or even whether they were human or beast.
Just as Su Changge was thinking of a way to escape, the leader of the Black-robed People holding the bone spear seemed to lose patience.
He took a step forward and raised the bone spear high, the tip pointing directly at Su Changge's hiding spot. The killing intent in his crimson eyes surged.
He opened his mouth beneath the hood and let out a snarl at Su Changge that was sharp enough to pierce eardrums!
"——Roar!!!"
Along with this roar, his two thick legs exerted force, and the red earth beneath his feet instantly exploded into a shallow pit. His body was like a cannonball fired from its barrel as he charged toward the stone crevice where Su Changge was hiding!
The tip of the bone spear glinted with a cold, sinister light under the blood-colored moon.
The bloodstains remaining on the spear tip looked exceptionally piercing in the moonlight. Su Changge could even see a strand of undried flesh hanging from the tip.
The speed of this spear thrust was extremely fast, and its power was immense.
Su Changge knew that if he remained hiding in the stone crevice, this spear would be enough to pierce through both him and the rock behind him!
He had no choice.
The moment the leader of the Black-robed People charged to within less than thirty feet of the crevice, Su Changge moved.
He kicked off the ground and shot out of the narrow stone crevice like a swimming fish. His body flipped in the air, narrowly avoiding that lethal spear thrust.
"Boom!"
The bone spear slammed into the spot where Su Changge had just been hiding. Under this spear, the hard black rock was actually pierced with a hole several feet deep! Rubble flew and dust rose everywhere.
The moment Su Changge landed, he tapped his toes on the ground and his figure surged forward again, charging toward a gap in the encirclement.
He had pushed his speed to its absolute limit.
But the Black-robed People's reactions were even faster.
Almost at the same time Su Changge moved, two other Black-robed People in the encirclement had already blocked his path.
A heavy bone club, carrying the sound of whistling wind, smashed down toward Su Changge's head. Another Black-robed Person's bone blade slashed at his waist and ribs from the side.
Two directions, two types of attacks, sealing off all his space to dodge.
A look of ruthlessness flashed in Su Changge's eyes.
He flipped his right hand, and a Talisman appeared in his palm. It was a "Vajra Talisman" he had spent a large amount of Spirit Stones to buy back in the Eastern Desolation; it could instantly form a layer of defensive spiritual shield on the body's surface.
But just as he was about to activate the Talisman, he hesitated.
The rules of this world were different from the Eastern Desolation. He had no confidence in whether the Talisman would take effect. If the Talisman failed, he would have wasted a life-saving opportunity for nothing.
In the blink of an eye, Su Changge made a decision.
He gave up on activating the Talisman and instead channeled all his remaining spiritual energy into his arms.
He crossed his arms and forcefully blocked the bone club smashing toward his head.
"Crack!"
A crisp sound rang out.
Under this strike, the bones in Su Changge's arms let out an overburdened groan. Intense pain spread from his arms throughout his entire body.
But he gritted his teeth and did not let out a single cry of pain.
Borrowing the force of this strike, his body flew backward, narrowly avoiding the bone blade slashing from the side.
Su Changge's body slammed heavily onto the ground, rolling several times on the red earth before he managed to stabilize himself.
He knelt on one knee, gasping for breath. The intense pain from his arms caused cold sweat to seep from his forehead.
But his gaze was even calmer than before.
Although he had been injured in that brief exchange just now, it had also allowed him to figure out some of their details.
These Black-robed People had immense strength and great speed, and they coordinated well. However, their attack methods were very primitive and direct. There were no fancy Moves, nor any spiritual energy fluctuations.
They were fighting by relying purely on physical strength!
This discovery caused a sliver of hope to ignite in Su Changge's heart.
If the opponents could also use spiritual energy, he would certainly die today. But if they only had powerful physical bodies, he still had a slim chance of survival.
