31: Chapter 31 The Fat Guy Joins the Company
Downstairs at the reception desk, the young receptionist was politely smiling and explaining something to a simple-looking, stout man when she suddenly saw Tang Man walk out of the elevator.
Everyone in the company knew that although this young and beautiful Assistant Tang did not hold the highest position, several of the beautiful directors treated her with great respect, clearly indicating her status was extraordinary.
The receptionist quickly stood up and greeted her, "Assistant Tang."
Tang Man nodded slightly and pointed at the stout man, "This is a new colleague of the company. He will finish his onboarding procedures shortly."
After speaking, she seemed to suddenly remember something and added, "Remember, there is a handsome young man in his twenties named Lin Yu. Whenever he comes, regardless of the time, let him pass directly without reporting it."
She did not say much about Lin Yu's identity; Lin Yu had always been low-key and did not like to draw attention to himself.
The receptionist quickly nodded and noted it down, "Understood, Assistant Tang, I will remember!"
Only then did Tang Man take the stout man into the elevator. The man was both surprised and curious, but he was sensible enough not to ask questions and followed obediently behind her.
The elevator went straight to the floor where the Human Resources Department was located. Tang Man gave a few brief instructions to the HR staff, asking them to help process his onboarding and arrange for him to join the Administrative Driver Team.
The young lady from HR smiled and introduced the role to the man, "The Administrative Driver Team is mainly responsible for the travel of company executives and the board of directors, as well as picking up clients and running field errands. The monthly salary is 10,000, with 15,000 for the deputy team leader and 20,000 for the team leader. Currently, the positions of team leader and deputy team leader have not been decided. The company's minimum standard for assigned vehicles is an Alphard, and other vehicles will be added in the future."
Tang Man asked, "How is it? Are you satisfied?"
The man's eyes widened.
Just driving, he could earn over a hundred thousand a year, and he would be driving a luxury car like an Alphard. It was much better than helping his parents raise livestock at home, and it would be respectable to tell others about it!
"Satisfied! Very satisfied!" The man nodded repeatedly, grinning from ear to ear. Besides, what man could refuse a luxury car?
After hearing this, Tang Man turned and went to attend to her work.
The young lady from HR took the man to the Driver Team's office area. It wasn't very large, with only about twenty workstations. There were three men sitting there at the moment, and it was mentioned that another one was out on a trip. Including the new man, there were five people for now.
"This is our new colleague, Li Hang. Please take care of him in the future."
The man was naturally a social butterfly; he had a sweet tongue and was diligent. In just a few sentences, he got familiar with the three colleagues, exchanging cigarettes and chatting, creating a harmonious atmosphere.
The staff member took the man to his workstation, where vehicle information, manuals, maintenance and insurance records, vehicle usage log forms, as well as company rules and regulations and job descriptions were placed on the table.
"Remember to submit your health certificate later. Smoking is prohibited inside the vehicles and in the office area. Keep your mobile phone accessible 24 hours a day, and be ready to respond at any time."
"Understood!"
After the HR person left, the man couldn't suppress his excitement and dragged a colleague with him to the underground parking lot.
A brand-new black Alphard was parked quietly in the parking space, shiny and bright, with an imposing car body. The man's eyes were fixed on it, and he cautiously reached out to touch the car body as if he were caressing a girl he admired, his hands trembling with excitement.
He opened the door and sat inside. The interior was luxurious and spacious, and the seats were unbelievably comfortable. The man explored and familiarized himself with each button, unable to put it down and reluctant to get out.
Reluctantly returning to his workstation, the boxed lunch ordered by the company had just arrived. The man washed his hands and opened the lunch box; it was three dishes and a soup, tasting much better than the fast food outside.
The veteran driver next to him ate his meal and laughed, "Once the restaurant on the first floor is renovated, we will have meal cards. We can eat whatever we want. It is said that the meal allowance standard is very high, so we basically won't need to spend our own money."
"It's that good?" the man asked, surprised.
"Of course," another driver sighed. "With these wages and benefits, people outside are breaking their heads trying to get in, but the company's threshold is too high; ordinary people simply can't get in."
The man felt wonderful listening to this, and he felt more and more that Lin was a stand-up guy for getting him in.
Meanwhile, Lin Wan brought her boyfriend, Director Wu, to the reception desk.
"Hello! We are looking for Lin Yu."
The receptionist did not dare to be the slightest bit negligent this time and quickly stood up, smiling and letting them pass, "Hello, the elevator is over there."
Lin Wan had been to the company before and, familiar with the way, led Director Wu into the elevator. Just as they stepped out of the elevator, they ran into Tang Man.
The two knew each other, and Tang Man smiled politely, "Ms. Lin, Director Wu, the boss is temporarily away. Let me take you to his office to wait for a while."
She led them into Lin Yu's spacious and imposing office, brewed two cups of good tea, and then made a call to Lin Yu.
"Boss, Ms. Lin Wan and Director Wu have arrived and are waiting for you in your office."
"Understood, I will be there in a moment."
Lin Yu hung up the phone; he had just finished lunch at home. Watching the raindrops fall on the glass—it was raining.
His own cars were parked at the company, and it was inconvenient to take a taxi on a rainy day, so Lin Yu borrowed Su Manqin's Volvo XC90.
"Auntie! Let me use your car; I didn't drive mine back after drinking last night."
"Okay, drive slowly on the road; the road is slippery in the rain," Su Manqin advised.
Lin Yu nodded, took the car keys, greeted Su Manqin and Mu Wan, and rushed to Junlin Capital.
In the company's underground parking lot, he walked directly to the exclusive elevator and swiped his card to go up. This elevator could only be used by Lin Yu and the "Seven Fairies" in the company. Other employees coming up from the underground garage had to take the stairs to the first floor and pass through the front desk verification before they could enter the elevator. The management was strict, and Lin Yu had even praised Administrative Director Tang Xingmian for this.
Pushing open the office door, Lin Yu greeted them with a smile, "Sister, Director Wu."
"Xiaoyu." Lin Wan stood up, and Director Wu also stood up and nodded politely.
Lin Yu walked to the reception area and sat down with them. Tang Man arrived at the right moment and handed over a cup of warm water. He took the cup, looked at Director Wu, and got straight to the point.
"Director Wu, I heard from my sister that you were discharged from the army and used connections to get assigned to teach physical education at an elementary school. The salary shouldn't be high, right? I don't mean to look down on you; you can ask my sister, I used to work at a Funeral Home."
Director Wu smiled honestly and nodded, "It's not high, barely enough to make ends meet."
"Teaching PE is stable, but it's too hard to get ahead. If you want to provide a good life for your parents, wife, and children, it's even harder," Lin Yu said in a serious tone. "So I asked you to come over because I want to discuss something with you."
"You come from a military background. In terms of security and protection, you are much more professional and have more advantages than ordinary people. My idea is for the company to provide the funding to acquire a security company and hand it over to you to manage."
Lin Yu paused and continued, "I won't pay you a salary, but I will give you and my sister a total of 49% of the shares. If the business is done well, you will earn more. All the companies under my banner will give priority to you for security business. Just this alone is enough for you to earn, and supporting your whole family will definitely not be a problem."
Director Wu had only heard Lin Wan mention it briefly before; he roughly knew that Lin Yu wanted to help him, but he didn't expect the scale of it to be so large and so thoughtful.
Director Wu was a sincere person; his eyes instantly turned red, and his hands were trembling with excitement, "Xiaoyu, you... you are..."
"We are family, no need to talk about two different houses," Lin Yu smiled faintly. "As long as you work hard and don't let my sister down, that's enough. What do you think, are you in?"
"I'm in!" Director Wu did not hesitate and nodded on the spot, "I will go back and tell my parents, and I will go to the school to resign tomorrow!"
Lin Yu reminded him, "You have another advantage: you are a military veteran with many comrades and broad resources. You can contact your former comrades and also communicate with the military to provide more employment channels for retired veterans; they will certainly be willing."
"In the future, you won't just do general security; you can also do high-end bodyguard services, for both men and women. Society is complicated now, and I also need reliable people to protect me."
"Understood! I will listen to everything you say!" Director Wu nodded heavily in agreement.
Lin Yu looked at Tang Man, "Take Director Wu to find President Wang Ya to discuss a concrete and feasible plan."
"Understood, boss!"
Tang Man left with Director Wu, leaving only Lin Yu and his sister Lin Wan in the office.
"Sister," Lin Yu looked at his only biological sister, his tone gentle, "Su Qingxue, the nurse from the day of the medical examination, is one of your sisters-in-law. You two can go learn to drive together and get your driver's license, and I'll buy you a car."
Lin Wan was stunned, "There's no need, I..."
"It's a must," Lin Yu interrupted her, his tone unquestionable. "No matter how Director Wu does in the future, and no matter what his family's conditions are, I will not let you suffer. With your natal family backing you, no one will dare to bully you."
Lin Wan's eyes grew hot, and she nodded, not refusing anymore. She understood her younger brother; once he decided on something, he would not change it.
As the siblings were chatting about family matters, Tang Man gently knocked on the door and entered, her expression slightly solemn, "Boss, President Wang just received a call from the Municipal Committee office. The top leader, Secretary Li, asked if you have time to go to the Municipal Committee in an hour. The secretary wants to see you personally."
Lin Yu tapped his fingertips gently on the desk, pondered for a moment, and looked up, "Reply to them that I will be there on time. By the way, print a copy of yesterday's company meeting minutes for me, as well as the business plan for the food company."
"Understood."
When Lin Wan heard that the city's top leader wanted to see Lin Yu, she didn't dare to delay, "Xiaoyu, then hurry up and attend to your business. I can wait for you by myself."
"Alright then, you sit for a while."
Lin Yu picked up his phone and briefcase and walked out of the office, calling the stout man, "Fatty, go to the company's underground parking lot and wait for me, immediately."
Tang Man came over with the printed meeting minutes and business plan. Lin Yu took the documents and brought her downstairs with him.
At the elevator entrance in the underground parking lot, the stout man was already waiting to the side. Lin Yu tossed the car keys to him and pointed to the XC90 in front, "You drive."
"Understood!"
Lin Yu opened the car door, and he and Tang Man sat in the back row. The man asked while starting the car, "This car is pretty dope, whose is it?"
"My girlfriend's!"
"...Damn," the man cursed again.
The car slowly drove out of the garage, and Lin Yu said, "First, go to a nearby shopping mall and buy two boxes of the best tea."
Although the man was curious, he didn't ask much and obediently drove to the nearest high-end shopping mall. Lin Yu got out of the car and picked out two boxes of top-grade tea: one with luxurious and exquisite packaging, and one with ordinary packaging. After checking out, he got back in the car.
"Go to the Municipal Committee compound."
The man's hands gripping the steering wheel tightened slightly, and his heart skipped a beat.
The Municipal Committee compound? Was that a place an ordinary person could just go to?
He suppressed his shock, said nothing, and drove steadily toward the destination.
The car stopped at the gate of the Municipal Committee compound. After the guard carefully verified their identities and registered them, they were allowed to enter the parking lot.
"Wait in the car, and don't smoke," Lin Yu instructed the man.
"Don't worry, Lin!"
Lin Yu took Tang Man and carried the tea into the office building. The first-floor lobby was solemn and tidy, with staff walking in a hurry, and the atmosphere was rigorous.
The secretary's full-time secretary was already waiting in the lobby. He was in his thirties, wearing a well-fitting suit, with a calm and capable temperament. His eyes were sharp but not lacking in amiability; one look and you could tell he was a meticulous and reliable person.
"Mr. Lin, Assistant Tang, welcome. I am the secretary for the secretary, Secretary Zhou."
"Hello, Secretary Zhou." Lin Yu nodded politely, neither humble nor pushy.
Secretary Zhou led the two into his office. Lin Yu took the tea from Tang Man at the right moment and smiled, "Secretary Zhou, this is tea sent by a friend. I find it quite good, so I'm borrowing flowers to offer to the Buddha—I brought some for the leader to taste."
He first handed the box of exquisitely packaged tea to Secretary Zhou, and then handed over the one with ordinary packaging, "Keep this for yourself, and brew a cup when you have free time."
The gift was given just right; it expressed his intentions without appearing to be deliberately sycophantic.
A hint of approval flashed in Secretary Zhou's eyes, and he smiled as he accepted it, "Mr. Lin is too polite. The secretary is currently receiving leaders from the Education Bureau, and it will end soon. You and Assistant Tang can sit for a moment."
The two sat down on the sofa. Less than ten minutes later, the door to the adjacent office opened, and the leaders from the Education Bureau walked out. They greeted Secretary Zhou and nodded slightly to Mr. Lin before leaving.
Secretary Zhou stepped forward and knocked on the door. After receiving permission, he turned to Mr. Lin and said, "Mr. Lin, the secretary invites you in. Assistant Tang, please wait here."
Mr. Lin straightened his clothes and followed Secretary Zhou into the secretary's office.
The office was spacious and bright, with a simple and grand decoration. There were no excessive luxurious ornaments, yet it exuded solemnity everywhere. The huge solid wood desk was spotless, and behind it, against the wall, was a floor-to-ceiling bookshelf filled with books and documents. Outside the floor-to-ceiling windows, trees provided shade, and the view was expansive.
The man sitting behind the desk was about fifty years old. His hair was slightly gray but combed neatly. His face was firm, his eyes deep, and he carried an aura of dignity from long-term high-ranking status, yet he did not lack gentleness. One look and you could tell he was a leader with a broad vision and a heart for the people.
This was the Ze City Municipal Committee secretary, Secretary Li.
Mr. Lin walked up, his expression calm, and bowed slightly, "Hello, leader."
Secretary Li put down the pen in his hand, stood up, took the initiative to reach out, and shook Mr. Lin's hand with moderate strength. His eyes looked Mr. Lin up and down, full of surprise and appreciation, "Hello, Mr. Lin! It's truly better to meet than to hear the name. I didn't expect Mr. Lin to be so young; it's truly surprising!"
While shaking hands, he sincerely praised, "Taking down the tallest building in the city center for 150 million, then spending a whopping 1.5 billion to register Junlin Capital, and then bidding 700 million for 3,000 mu of land in the High-tech Zone—the scale of this series of actions is being discussed by the whole of Ze City. Young and promising, you are not simple!"
"The leader is too kind," Mr. Lin said in a calm tone. "You are busy with a thousand tasks every day, working hard and running around for the development of Ze City and for the people to live good lives. That is what is truly worthy of admiration."
Secretary Li laughed, his mood clearly good, and pointed to the sofa, "Sit, let's sit and talk."
