141: Come to the rescue
The Little Woman never expected that when she woke up early this morning to cook, she would encounter these two ruffians peeking into her courtyard.
After seeing the Little Woman, the two ruffians directly pushed the door open, attempting something untoward. If she hadn't struggled so fiercely, they would probably have succeeded by now.
However, even when faced with her shouts, neither of them showed the slightest fear. Instead, they wore playful, smirking expressions, as if they didn't care about being discovered at all.
"Go ahead and scream. The plague just passed, and everyone around is too busy with their own affairs to meddle," one of the tall, thin men said, raising an eyebrow with a cynical look.
The other shorter man echoed, "Even if you scream your throat raw, no one will pay attention. Why not just give in to us? You'll have someone to rely on in the future, won't you?"
Facing their brazen attitude, the Little Woman pressed her lips together, looking incredibly stubborn. Her hands, gripping the broom, trembled slightly. Though she appeared strong, the fear in her eyes betrayed her true emotions.
These two ruffians didn't bully others; they specifically targeted her because her husband had been killed by demons, leaving her without support.
This couldn't help but fill her heart with a touch of sorrow. Her family of five, after enduring the plague and demon attacks, only she had survived.
In contrast, these two ruffians had gone through the plague without any issues. It truly was a case of good people not living long, while scourges lasted for a thousand years!
Seeing that the Little Woman didn't respond, their lust grew bolder. The tall, thin man's face turned menacing, and he said in a threatening tone, "If you give in today, it'll be fine. If not, that's also an option, but then my brother and I will have to use some harsher methods. You wouldn't want your face to be scratched, would you?"
With that, the tall, thin man pulled a slender short knife from his waist. The blade was sharp, as if it had been sharpened in advance.
This was clearly not an impulse; it was a premeditated plan.
In their eyes, if anyone was to blame, it was her for being too beautiful, and for being a young widow without a man to lead the household. Wouldn't she be easy pickings for the two of them!
Seeing the other party pull out a broken knife glinting with cold light, the Little Woman's face instantly turned ashen. She realized that if no one came to save her, she would likely lose her chastity here today.
The two ruffians, with lewd smiles on their faces, gradually approached. The Little Woman instinctively retreated, suddenly hitting the outer wall of the house, only then realizing she had been cornered.
"You... you two, don't come any closer," the Little Woman stammered, her eyes filled with terror and helplessness.
However, her words not only failed to deter the two men but instead made them even more impatient.
"If you give in to us, it'll be fine. I don't want to scratch your pretty face. But if you really insist on resisting..." The tall, thin man didn't finish his sentence, but the threat within his words was extremely palpable.
"Come here!" The shorter man was even more impatient. He roughly grabbed the broom and yanked hard.
Feeling a sharp pain in her palm, to the Little Woman's cry of alarm, her only means of self-defense flew out of her hand.
Like two hungry wolves baring their fangs, the two men's eyes were filled with greed, as if they wanted to devour the Little Woman completely.
Throwing away the broom, the shorter man lunged forward fiercely.
How could the Little Woman resist an adult man? Just as despair showed on her face, and she even considered biting her tongue to protect her chastity, a gust of wind suddenly whistled past from the side.
Before any of the three could react, the shorter man let out a scream and was sent flying directly backward.
Thud!
He flew over ten meters in mid-air, crashing heavily into a pile of bamboo fences nearby. As the sturdy bamboo fences shattered and collapsed into pieces, the shorter man twitched a few times, then stopped moving.
This sudden turn of events startled the two people present. The Little Woman stared blankly and turned her head, only to see a rather familiar, handsome face appear in her line of sight.
"You... who are you? Do you have a death wish? How dare you oppose my brother and me?" The tall, thin man's face was ferocious, putting on a deliberately fierce stance, as if to embolden himself, and he even brandished the dagger in his hand twice.
"What did you say?" Lu Ming, who had stepped in to help, narrowed his eyes. He stared at the tall, thin man in front of him, his palm resting on the hilt of his saber at his waist.
Recognizing Lu Ming's appearance, especially seeing the official uniform of the Demon Suppression Division, the tall, thin man could no longer maintain his composure, and a look of terror appeared on his face.
The moment Lu Ming's gaze fell on him, a sense of suffocation washed over him. He felt as if he had fallen into an ice cellar, experiencing a deep chill.
"He wants to kill me!" This thought appeared in the tall, thin man's mind, making his legs tremble.
"I said, what did you just say to me?" Lu Ming looked at the tall, thin man, who was so scared his soul seemed to fly out, and still had no intention of letting him go, he said coldly.
Clang!
The broken knife in his hand fell to the ground, making a crisp sound. The tall, thin man immediately knelt on the ground, full of a desire to survive, and said, "This lowly one deserves to die for offending you, Sir. Please spare my life."
With that, he began to kowtow loudly to the ground, no longer showing any of his previous arrogance.
Lu Ming naturally wouldn't let the other party off so easily. While the man was desperately kowtowing, he slowly walked to the front of the tall, thin man.
Shadows enveloped him. The terrified tall, thin man looked up.
Before he could react, a crisp sound of bone cracking was heard, and the arm that had been holding the dagger was instantly broken.
Ah!
A pig-like scream rang out. The tall, thin man's face was filled with pain, and drool and snot flowed out.
"I'll give you five breaths to take your companion and disappear from my sight. If you exceed that, then you two will stay here forever," Lu Ming said with a cold snort.
"Thank you, Sir, thank you, Sir." The tall, thin man forced a smile. He scrambled to his feet, not daring to linger for a moment, dragging the shorter man who had been knocked unconscious by Lu Ming's kick, and quickly disappeared into the street.
"Are you alright?" Lu Ming said softly.
The Little Woman's eyes were wide, teary, and she looked at Lu Ming, who was walking towards her, with a slightly dazed gaze. Her eyes were unfocused, as if she hadn't yet recovered from her recent struggle.
"Thank you for saving me, Sir. This humble woman salutes you." Unlike her veiled demeanor yesterday, Lu Ming had saved her in a time of crisis, and now the Little Woman's heart was filled with gratitude.
"May I ask, Sir, what brings you here this time?"
Wiping the tears from the corners of her eyes, the Little Woman also understood that if he had no business, he would never have come so early in the morning.
