148: Su Hu's Regret
"Ah!"
"Wanning!"
"Stop it, or you'll drown me!" Lei Qian was speechless.
He quickly opened the car door and jumped out, standing outside, drenched like a drowned rat, dripping water from head to toe.
"What are you doing?" He looked at her, aggrieved.
"I don't like pungent smells." Bai Wanning snorted, turning the car's air dryer to full blast. "Don't ever spray that smell in front of me again."
She was pregnant, and her emotions were hard to control.
More importantly, deep down, she actually hoped this man could be the father of her child.
But she couldn't tell him the truth, only watch as he lived on like a fool, completely oblivious.
And the more ignorant he was, the angrier she became.
Yet she couldn't control her emotions—which, in turn, made her even more exasperated.
Why on earth did she have expectations for him? What was she hoping to gain?
Lei Qian was speechless for a moment.
This scent was very popular among celebrities and women, at least that's what Wang Ba told him.
His mother and sister also liked it, but now Bai Wanning said she hated it.
"Why is this woman so different from others?" He sighed helplessly, used his ability to dry himself, and got back into the car. Bai Wanning then restarted the car and drove away.
However, they were completely unaware that someone was quietly watching them from the shadows.
Su Hu walked onto the balcony, just wanting a quiet place to get some fresh air.
Because Bai Minghe was late in returning, Bai Xue and Chu Chuxia argued with Bai Qingshi every day, turning the house upside down.
If it weren't for Xiang Mei's ability to grow vegetables, Su Hu estimated he would have long since been driven to a brain-exploding frenzy.
What made it even more unbearable was that Bai Xue actually told him to curry favor with Xiang Mei, even hinting that he should "get close" to her.
Su Hu felt like a lowly male prostitute, both ashamed and disgusted, but luckily Bai Xue still liked him and hadn't made him actually get into Xiang Mei's bed.
But Bai Xue had been getting pickier lately, and Su Hu worried that day would eventually come.
He had never imagined that the once gentle and kind Bai Xue would do such a thing to him.
But now he lived in the Bai family, dependent on them for everything, and had no standing to say "no."
This morning, when Bai Wanning scolded them for being timid, she said there were only two ways to live in this world: either fight desperately against zombies, or depend on a man or a woman to survive.
Su Hu truly dared not fight desperately, leaving him with only the second path.
He feared that Bai Xue might one day go completely insane from hunger and force him to do things he could never forgive himself for.
But as soon as the thought emerged, he shook his head and muttered softly, "No, Xue Xue wouldn't do that to me."
He sighed deeply, resting his hands on the railing, his gaze falling precisely on Lei Qian in the middle of the street.
At first, he didn't understand what was happening; he was just curious why this man was standing in the street.
Until he saw Bai Wanning sitting in the driver's seat.
Su Hu's face instantly darkened.
He had always thought that Bai Wanning had been slept with by a greasy old man, and Bai Xue and her father had never told him the plan had failed.
Precisely because of this, he always adopted a superior attitude, thinking that even if he and Bai Xue were together, Bai Wanning would be grateful to him, for after she was "defiled," who else would be willing to accept her?
But now, he discovered that the man who had slept with Bai Wanning was none other than the elegant and powerful Lei Qian!
He had never expected such a twist.
Lei Qian was not only handsome and from a powerful background, but he was also said to be extraordinarily capable.
Su Hu even heard the women among the survivors say that Lei Qian had brought back two piglets and a large pig, and had given the pigs and other supplies to Bai Wanning.
Although no one knew if the news was true, those women had already believed it, even saying that Lei Qian was "too romantic."
Although Bai Xue didn't say anything, Su Hu could tell she was jealous.
Her attitude towards him had been getting worse these days. Although she apologized later, Su Hu still couldn't swallow his resentment.
Su Hu's heart was filled with injustice and humiliation.
Why wasn't the man Bai Wanning slept with a greasy old geezer? Why wasn't he an idiot? That way, he could stand tall in front of Bai Wanning.
Bai Xue wouldn't curse him as useless behind his back, but would say he was handsome and gave her face. Even Bai Wanning would look at him differently because of his good looks.
He couldn't help but start to resent Bai Wanning, the Bai Wanning who used to love him to death—why had she suddenly changed? Why had she abandoned him?
Was her love really that cheap?
Just because Lei Qian was handsome, skilled, and could get supplies, she decided to depend on him?
The more he thought about it, the angrier he got, his mind filled with resentment and indignation. Bai Wanning, when did she become this kind of woman?
"Brother Hu!"
As soon as Su Hu heard Xiang Mei's voice, he instinctively shivered and jumped. This reaction had almost become his instinct whenever he was near Xiang Mei.
This woman also seemed to have realized that she was gradually becoming a core figure in the survivor team, and her arrogance had grown accordingly.
What's more, Bai Xue now relied on her to some extent, and no longer stopped her from getting close to Su Hu; instead, she let her cling to Su Hu like a sticky candy.
With Bai Xue not stopping her, Xiang Mei became even more unrestrained.
"What's wrong?" Su Hu turned to look at the woman behind him, a visible annoyance on his face, yet he still forced a ingratiating smile. "What's wrong, Mei Mei?"
"It's Sister Xue." Xiang Mei sighed, her voice low.
However, the moment she lowered her head, a deep venom flashed in her eyes.
She suppressed her emotions and continued, "She picked up a few more survivors. We wanted to drive them away, but she insisted on keeping them. Can you talk to her? The number of people we can feed is limited."
"Everyone is relying on my ability right now, and I can't grow that much food. Who knows when Brother Minghe will return? How can we bear such immense pressure?"
"What?!" Su Hu's heart tightened sharply when he heard this, almost leaping into his throat.
He didn't care about anything else; he turned and rushed downstairs.
When he saw Bai Xue distributing the remaining supplies to the new survivors, his head exploded with a "buzz."
Was this woman crazy? Or was he crazy?!
What angered him even more was that Chu Chuxia and Bai Qingshi didn't even say a word to stop her. No matter how much they doted on their daughter, there should be a limit!
"Bai Xue!" Su Hu rushed to her, grabbed her wrist, pulled her aside, and roared in a low voice, "What are you doing?! We don't have much in the way of supplies to begin with. If you give away what's left, what will we eat?"
Bai Xue was startled by his questioning. She blinked, and her voice held a hint of grievance, "Are you blaming me? I just felt sorry for them. Look at them, each one as thin as a ghost, looking so miserable—"
"I know they're pitiful!" Su Hu couldn't help but shout.
