89: Come and complain!

Azure Dragon Temple.

When Yu Mengzhang returned, the "Green Lizard" was still coiled around the statue's calf, absorbing Karma and cultivating on its own.

Outside the temple, a line of commoners was entering one after another to kowtow and worship.

Every single person was incomparably devout.

The worship of Mortals for the deity transformed into Power Of Faith, linking them to the statue.

Yu Mengzhang could now hear their prayers more clearly.

However, very few of those prayers were directed toward the nobility.

And as for someone like Viscount Jack, whom he had just encountered, he had never even heard of him before.

If City Lord Xiao hadn't mentioned it, he wouldn't have even imagined that those glamorous nobles caused far more harm than he had thought!

What exactly should he do to gather Karma faster and more thoroughly?

Yu Mengzhang frowned slightly, leaning against the Altar as he fell into thought.

In his cultivation, meditation was secondary; it was the three-pronged advancement of Dragon Qi, Karma, and Bloodline that truly enhanced his strength.

As for Dragon Qi, he had the residual Dragon Qi of the Two Dragon Kings of Ice and Fire; currently, he just needed to slowly refine it.

For his Bloodline, he could find Dragon Clan Spirit Beasts to stimulate it with their true blood.

And both of these could rely on the growth of his own Soul Power to stimulate the "Green Lizard" to strengthen in sync.

Karma, on the other hand, was the key to receiving recognition from Heaven and Earth.

It had to be obtained from the outside world.

Like the previous year of the great drought, where he summoned clouds and rain to gain a massive amount of Karma—that was too rare.

And if he continued like this, punishing evil and promoting good, the speed would be too slow.

“Are all nobles pests? No...” Yu Mengzhang pondered... until night fell.

The Believers left one after another. Although many were more than willing to stay, the temple could not accommodate them.

Salas, his mind brewing with schemes, specifically asked to gather with Dragon Duke Meng Shu's family under a tree to discuss things before leaving.

Dragon Duke Meng Shu looked at Salas, his face unable to hide his anger.

If Salas hadn't screwed him over by not warning him, how could he have possibly offended the temple and nearly been executed?!

Salas, however, felt no psychological burden at all.

A moment of silence passed.

“Dragon Duke, I can leave the day after tomorrow,” Salas said with a smile, setting aside a shovel and a bag filled with Single-Horned Thunder Dragon dung.

“What?”

Dragon Duke Meng Shu looked at Salas in surprise. “Have you spoken to that High Priest? He agreed to let you leave?”

Salas shook his head and said:

“You’re mistaken, Dragon Duke. I ask you, who made us stay here to do chores?”

“...” Dragon Duke Meng Shu’s eyes flickered.

“It was that little girl, right? You’ve been here for a few days too. Have you seen the High Priest show any inclination toward us? It’s more like he’s ignoring us, right?”

“The High Priest doesn’t care about us at all. He didn't even take our previous offense to heart; it was just that little girl who wanted to punish us.”

Salas smiled, speaking with plausible conviction.

Dragon Duke Meng Shu listened thoughtfully. During these few days of doing chores at the temple, he hadn't had any interaction with the High Priest.

Thinking of those eyes filled with divinity...

He was particularly unwilling to face them; that suppressive effect was simply too powerful!

But thinking about it according to what Salas said, it really seemed to be the case... “So, I’m leaving. I can’t stay in the temple forever. Of course, I am very grateful for the temple's kindness. Once I’m out, I will definitely do everything in my power to help the temple resolve any troubles.”

Salas had a look of total sincerity.

“Kindness...?” Dragon Duke Meng Shu’s expression was strange. This old fox was truly shameless, wasn't he?!

A dignified Platinum Bishop trapped here as free labor, and he actually had the thick skin to call it kindness?

Dragon Duke Meng Shu sneered and said, “Then go ahead!”

Salas chuckled and said, “Of course. Just you watch, the High Priest won’t blame us!”

Salas spoke confidently, while thinking to himself: I'll screw you over one more time before I leave!

“Hmm? That seems to be one of yours from Spirit Hall.” Dragon Duke Meng Shu suddenly pointed toward the temple.

“What do you mean?”

Salas was stunned for a moment.

“A kid went to the temple and knocked on the door...”

Dragon Duke Meng Shu explained.

Salas’s face changed instantly. It couldn't be that Spirit Hall was coming to move against the temple, could it?

If so, he would be in deep trouble!

With a flash of his figure, Salas hurriedly chased after him.

Dragon Duke Meng Shu’s expression turned sour immediately. His polite banter with Salas just now was all an act; he wished he could kill that bastard with his own hands!

“Old man, do you think what he said is true?”

Snake Granny Chao Tianxiang asked.

Dragon Duke Meng Shu snorted and said, “That bastard can’t be fully trusted! He’s probably setting another trap somewhere! But, it does seem to be the case...”

“If Salas leaves tomorrow, then I’ll also go down the mountain to take a look. If anyone asks, you say I’ve gone out to seek medical treatment and will return by evening. We'll test the waters gradually...”

Dragon Duke Meng Shu said.

He had actually wanted to leave for a long time.

As the Clan Chief of a dignified Spirit Master power, acting as a gatekeeper for a small-town temple—he had a fire of resentment burning in his heart too!

...“Bang bang bang...!”

Su Yuntao pounded on the temple's main gate.

His face carried a hint of fear and trepidation.

“High Priest, I... I am Su Yuntao... I would like to request an audience with you...”

Su Yuntao’s voice trembled.

“Come in,” Yu Mengzhang said calmly.

Su Yuntao swallowed hard and pushed the door open to enter.

He had come today by summoning his courage, even having a sort of 'nothing left to lose' attitude.

Since you, Spirit Hall, don’t want me and treated me like that, then I’ll simply join your opposition!

As soon as Su Yuntao entered and saw that majestic and holy statue, the anger in his chest instantly deflated.

“High...”

He felt like he was just a tiny ant right now.

“Thud...” His knees went soft, and he directly knelt down.

He didn't dare let Yu Mengzhang have to look up at him.

“High Priest, I... I have come to seek refuge with you...”

Su Yuntao said with a trembling voice.

Yu Mengzhang raised an eyebrow slightly. “Seek refuge with me?”

Su Yuntao’s throat moved, and he nodded vigorously, stammering out the whole story.

“...I didn’t expect Spirit Hall would treat me like that. Clearly, Viscount Jack broke the law, but...”

“Bang bang bang...”

Suddenly, a rapid knocking interrupted Su Yuntao’s words.

Salas hurriedly rushed in, sliding on his knees until he reached Su Yuntao’s side.

“The Spirit Hall branch leader here is truly abominable! To actually persecute the loyal and good! He must be brought to justice!”

Salas spoke with righteous indignation.

Su Yuntao looked in surprise at the suddenly appearing Salas, not recognizing this old man who seemed so panicked.

Salas then kowtowed forcefully, his head pressed against the ground, not daring to lift it.

“High Priest, there must be some sort of deal between the branch leader here and that noble. I am willing to make a trip personally; there is no need to trouble your Great Excellency...”

Salas said, sweat pouring down his forehead.

Su Yuntao was even more confused. What was with this old man?

“Old gentleman, you don’t understand...”
