99: New way of eating

"Who is this? Why is everyone calling him Young Master Qi?" Su Ze asked, grabbing someone nearby.

The person glanced at Su Ze and said disdainfully, "You don't even know the Qi Family's young master, Qi Lin? You must not be a local from the Imperial Capital, right?"

The person spoke with his head held high and a proud look, his expression so contemptuous it was as if he had royal bloodlines etched onto his forehead.

Su Ze didn't bother arguing with him. This person was actually just an ordinary person, not even a Beast Tamer, yet he possessed an inexplicable sense of pride simply because he was born in the Imperial Capital.

In reality, however, Su Ze could hear a heavy regional accent in his voice.

"The Qi Family? One of the Four Great Families? No wonder he's so generous with his money," Su Ze muttered.

Young Master Qi was seen very skillfully charcoal-grilling that bronze demon beast egg. Judging by his practiced technique, it didn't seem like his first time doing this.

He first stabilized the egg on the grill, then lightly tapped the shell. After cracking and removing the top part of the shell, the egg liquid inside was exposed, though it was still raw for now.

This prevented the egg from exploding during the grilling process and made seasoning much more convenient.

He waited until the egg was cooked halfway, then picked up some barbecue seasoning and shook a little inside. He stirred gently, spreading the seasoning while trying his best not to break the yolk.

After waiting a while longer, the egg liquid gradually solidified and expanded, slowly overflowing from the broken top.

Just as it was about to spill over, Qi Lin suddenly used tongs to lift the scorching hot demon beast egg from the grill and placed it on a side tray.

A portion of charcoal-grilled demon beast egg was thus ready.

He reached out toward the butler at his side, who immediately produced a set of silver cutlery meticulously kept in a mahogany box.

It was hard to imagine someone carrying such a set while strolling through a night market; clearly, Qi Lin was very particular about his food.

He impatiently took a shimmering silver spoon from the butler's hand and eagerly thrust it into the opening of the egg.

He scooped up a spoonful of the fluid-like soft-boiled egg and stuffed it into his mouth, closing his eyes with an expression of pure ecstasy.

The overflowing aroma made everyone nearby swallow hard. It was hard to imagine a simple grilled egg could have such an enticing fragrance; they all wished they could have a portion themselves.

But at the thought of the egg's price, they all clutched their wallets and held back.

That was a demon beast egg, after all. Even a bronze grade one had cost Qi Lin a million.

Spending that much money just to eat a grilled egg—most people wouldn't think it was worth it no matter how they looked at it.

This was a delicacy that only the rich could enjoy.

But... there was one exception.

Su Ze's eyes lit up as he watched Qi Lin's method of grilling the egg. Although demon beast eggs were already delicious when simply boiled...

He had been eating them that way for the past six months.

But no matter how good something is, eating it every day will eventually get boring.

At this moment, Qi Lin's grilled egg gave Su Ze a new option.

If he wasn't afraid of drawing attention, and if the Jiang Family's actions hadn't soured his opinion of all the Four Great Families, he really would have wanted to discuss cooking insights for demon beast eggs with Qi Lin and learn the grilled egg technique while he was at it.

Wang Zi, seeing this, couldn't help but sigh. "The Imperial Capital is truly the Imperial Capital. There really is always someone better out there. This is the first time I've been intimidated by someone else's extravagance."

"A demon beast egg! He just grilled it like that!"

"The most important thing is... it actually looks really delicious!"

Wang Zi put his arm around Su Ze's shoulder and said, "Brother, I finally understand how you guys felt back then. This is capital... it's truly damnable."

"It turns out that what's wicked isn't just having no capital, but not having enough capital!"

"I really want to eat it too... but I still can't bear the thought. That's a demon beast egg..."

"Su Ze, you should be able to understand this pain, right?!"

Wang Zi spoke with great distress.

It wasn't hard to tell from his build that Wang Zi was a thoroughbred foodie, yet now there was something even he couldn't bring himself to eat!

Listening to Wang Zi's complaints, Xu Yao gave Su Ze a strange look.

Perhaps... he really didn't understand.

Xu Yao still remembered that Su Ze boiled a demon beast egg to eat almost every single day.

Never mind bronze; Silver grade eggs were regulars on Su Ze's dining table.

Even Xu Yao had eaten quite a few demon beast eggs along with him. Her feelings had gone from being heartbroken at the waste to gradually becoming numb.

"Now that I think about it... I haven't eaten Brother Su Ze's eggs for a while..."

Just the memory made Xu Yao swallow her saliva. Su Ze's eggs were so delicious they were unforgettable!

Su Ze noticed Xu Yao's state, and combined with Wang Zi's constant grumbling in his ear, he decided to satisfy the two's desire to eat his eggs.

"Anyway, I've accumulated many eggs these past few days without consuming them. Let's take this chance to have a feast."

It just so happened that the hotel they were staying in was like a homestay apartment, with a kitchen in the common area for them to use.

It was just that very few people used it; most people just ordered takeout to fill their bellies.

The three of them turned to leave just as Qi Lin began his meal.

Su Ze also found out that Qi Lin was a contestant in this Beast Taming Grand Competition, but he was among the top three at Imperial Capital Beast Taming University, so he didn't need to participate in the group stages. Su Ze wouldn't encounter him for the time being... Perhaps to satisfy the craving in his stomach, Wang Zi bought many more snacks along the way, eating and carrying them back to the hotel.

However, they encountered two uninvited guests at the hotel entrance. The two looked seventy to eighty percent alike, both with thin faces and protruding cheekbones, looking as if they had been sucked dry.

They rubbed their fingers together with sinister smiles and said, "Fatty Wang, you're finally back. We've been looking for you for ages."

"The prices in the Imperial Capital are really deadly expensive, especially the price of 'chicks'. We simply can't afford to play. We heard you're rich, why don't you lend us some money to spend?"

Su Ze had some impression of these two. They were also from White Tiger Beast Taming University and had been following behind Luo Xingyu earlier.

But unlike Wang Zi, they weren't outstanding students from various grades who came to watch the matches; they were contestants.

Wang Zi leaned in and whispered to Su Ze, "They are the Shen Family Brothers, Shen Kui and Shen Xu. They are the fourth and fifth among our school's five contestants."

"I don't usually have much to do with them. I think they're actually here for you."

Wang Zi was right. Although Luo Xingyu said Su Ze was no longer a threat, that was only from her perspective.

For the Shen Family Brothers, as fellow fourth and fifth-seeded contestants, they needed to get to know each other.

Because of the group stage brackets, they were very likely to be grouped together!
