68: the truth

Lin Xi then fell silent for a moment, seemingly organizing his words and considering where to begin.

After much thought, he said, "In fact, within the academic circles of Beast Tamers, there have always been various theories regarding the origin of monster beasts. Through archaeological discoveries, we can find fossils of the evolutionary process for almost all animals, including us humans."

"Only for monster beasts, no matter how many years of history we excavate from the strata, we can never find any trace of them on the path of evolution."

"It's hard for us not to suspect that monster beasts... do not belong to our world. They come from another world."

"As for why they appeared in our world... perhaps it was an invasion, perhaps they entered by mistake, or perhaps the spaces of the two worlds collided."

"Until about forty or fifty years ago, we discovered this Dragon Corpse..."

Lin Xi seemed to fall into a state of reminiscence as he sighed, "While we were amazed by its grandeur and power, we also confirmed through its peculiar state that another world indeed exists—a Monster Beast World!"

Lin Xi calmed his emotions and continued, "At that time, many young researchers were recruited to study this Dragon Corpse, and I was among that first batch of researchers."

"Through studying the Dragon Corpse, we achieved many results. Some have already been put into practice, while others were shelved due to certain difficulties, such as that furnace eventually used for burning trash."

Lin Xi sighed and continued, "But it wasn't long before we realized that these results were actually related to the Dragon Corpse itself and didn't involve the world behind it at all—the things we truly wanted to understand."

"So, after draining every bit of value from the half-corpse, the research made no further progress."

"All projects were put on hold, and people left one after another. The once bustling laboratory was left with only a few people."

At this point, Lin Xi turned his head to look at Su Ze.

This made Su Ze feel inexplicably apprehensive, knowing that what came next would be about his parents.

Sure enough, Lin Xi looked at Su Ze's face and reminisced, "Among those people were your parents, Su Lin and Jin Ling."

He raised his hand and pointed to the black void in the middle of the Dragon Corpse, which kept half of it in this world and half in its original world. "That was their research direction!"

"And then?" Su Ze couldn't help but ask.

"And then... their research confirmed one point: that the appearance of this Dragon Corpse here was no accident, but intentional!"

"The powerhouses of the Monster Beast World used their own powerful physical bodies as anchors to fix the two worlds together, which should have just passed each other by."

Su Ze asked in confusion, "Why would they do that?"

Lin Xi let out a cold snort. "Why? For invasion, of course! These anchors must have existed since the very first monster beast appeared in this world."

"These?" Su Ze inquired.

Lin Xi replied, "That's right. There isn't just one anchor. Multiple anchors have already been found just within the borders of Great Xia."

"The anchors pull the two worlds closer, allowing more and more powerful monster beasts to appear. The continuous emergence of increasingly powerful monster beasts over the years has validated this point."

"One day, when the two worlds are close enough and the spatial channel allows God Beast-level monster beasts to descend... that will be the end of humanity!"

Lin Xi sighed and looked at Su Ze. "When they researched this hair-raising result, they had just had you. Because they didn't want the world you live in to become a world dominated by monster beasts, where humans are reduced to their food and slaves..."

Mr. and Mrs. Su Lin decided to do everything possible to change the future!"

"So, through continuous calculation and verification, they finally completed all preparations six years ago. They were going to try to destroy the Dragon Corpse and break the anchor!"

"If they succeeded, they could destroy all known anchors step by step."

"But unfortunately, they were not successful in the end. It even caused spatial turbulence, and the couple was swept away by the turbulence, both of them going missing..."

Su Ze, who had looked up, now also saw a deep mark where the two worlds were separated in the middle of the dragon bones, reaching more than halfway into the bone.

This must be the mark left by his parents back then.

From Lin Xi's introduction just now, at its peak, this laboratory could utilize all the nation's resources for research, but even so, they could only grind off bone powder from the dragon bones bit by bit for study.

Yet Su Lin and his wife, relying only on their own calculations and strength, had severed half of the dragon bone in one go. One could imagine how much blood, sweat, and effort they had put in just to secure a bright future for their son.

Su Ze suddenly felt a coldness on his face. He reached out to touch it and found it was two lines of flowing tears.

At the same time, he felt a subtle change in his soul, as if some kind of fusion had been completely finished.

The souls from the two worlds had finally merged perfectly into one.

Su Ze never expected that his parents in this world would go missing for such a reason.

"They are heroes..." Su Ze said in a low voice.

Lin Xi replied, "Yes, they certainly are."

"But unfortunately, this news cannot be known to the outside world. If the common people knew that in a few decades, a group of unbeatably powerful monster beasts would rule the world and feed on humans at will, what do you think would happen?"

Su Ze fell silent.

Lin Xi continued, "So we concealed all the news, including your parents' research results and goals."

"We also hid the true cause of your parents' accident from your young self."

Su Ze finally understood why Xu Yiming said it was of great importance and couldn't tell him even though he knew; it was because the secret had to be kept.

The fewer people who knew, the less likely it was to leak.

"Then why are you willing to tell me now?" Su Ze inquired.

Lin Xi said in a puzzled tone, "Wasn't it you who kept pestering me with questions? Besides, I've observed you, and you're not the type to have a big mouth."

Saying this, Lin Xi walked around Su Ze, intending to leave. At that moment, Su Ze asked again, "Is there a possibility that my parents didn't die but went to the Beast Tamer World on the other side?"

Lin Xi's footsteps paused for a moment, and then he replied, "Perhaps... but that's not exactly a good wish. If a human went to the world of monster beasts... there's no telling what their fate would be."

He then left completely, leaving Su Ze alone to wait for Feng Qingyi's re-hatching.
