10: Chapter 10: Full-body alarm, suspected to be a human bomb!
The inspection team consisted of three people.
The leader, a middle-aged man named Liu Feng, was in his early forties. He was a veteran of the plant, famous for being impartial and incorruptible.
Two assistants followed him, carrying portable scanning equipment with the Southern Military Region's serial number stamped on the black metal casing.
The atmosphere in the Sorting Area changed instantly.
The Short-haired Lady, who had been grumbling, shut her mouth and buried her head in her work.
The Bald Man's movements while breaking iron pipes became three times lighter. The quiet girl with a ponytail dared not even raise her head.
He calmly released his hand and tossed the steel pipe into the Sorting Area's sorting basket.
Most of the parts in the Scrap Yard were standard equipment phased out by the military.
They were all made of high-grade military steel, with extremely high purity.
The system prompt wasn't like the previous time he swallowed that piece of scrap iron, requiring purification and impurity separation.
High purity meant almost no residue remained.
Occasionally, he would encounter parts with surface oxidation and rust.
After swallowing them, his palms would be stained with a tiny bit of rust-colored powder.
He would just brush it into the pile of debris at the bottom of the scrap heap.
The inspector scanned the workstations, his gaze lingering on each person for two seconds.
Then, he nodded to his assistants.
"Turn it on, routine scan."
The assistant opened the equipment, and a handheld scanning wand extended out.
It was similar to airport security in his past life, but a size larger, with the scanning head emitting a pale blue light.
They started scanning from the Bald Man.
The wand circled his body, and the device emitted a steady "beep." Green light.
Passed.
The Short-haired Lady. Green light.
The tall, thin guy. Green light.
The middle-aged man and the ponytailed girl also passed with green lights all the way.
It was Su Ming's turn.
He stood straight, letting his hands hang naturally at his sides, wearing that classic "honest student" expression on his face.
The scanning wand started from the top of his head and moved downward.
Past his shoulders, green light.
Reaching the chest area...
"Beep, beep, beep, beep!"
The red light flashed wildly.
Before the scanning wand could even move further down, the device's buzzer exploded, and a piercing alarm echoed throughout the Sorting Area.
Everyone's gaze shot over instantly.
The assistant was startled, thinking the device had malfunctioned, and scanned him again.
Waist.
"Beep, beep, beep!"
Arms.
"Beep, beep, beep!"
Thighs.
"Beep, beep, beep, beep, beep!"
The alarm became more urgent each time, and the red light flashed like it was New Year's.
Liu Feng's face sank instantly.
"Stop."
He raised a hand, and the two assistants immediately took half a step back, their hands resting on their waists.
The Sorting Area was so quiet you could hear the wind.
The Short-haired Lady's mouth was agape, her eyes darting back and forth between Su Ming and the inspector.
The Bald Man subconsciously moved two steps to the side, distancing himself from Su Ming.
Scarface Li had run over at some point.
He stared at Su Ming, his face livid.
"Kid, what did you bring with you?"
Su Ming looked completely bewildered.
"I... I didn't bring anything?"
"Didn't bring anything? You're the only one in the entire Sorting Area setting off the alarm!"
Liu Feng stared fixedly at the scanner screen, waiting for the data to finish loading.
"Beep!" A line of small text appeared on the screen: [Abnormally high-density material detected, suspected core material of micro-high-explosive armor-piercing shells!]
"Don't move! Did you bring micro-armor-piercing shells in here?"
The two assistants behind Liu Feng reacted extremely quickly, pulling out stun guns with both hands and aiming them at Su Ming.
"Damn it! Did I hire a spy?"
Scarface Li's face was livid; he felt like his face had been slapped swollen.
He roared and pulled a short-handled self-defense stun gun from his waist, the muzzle crackling with blue electric arcs, pointing it directly at Su Ming's head.
"Kid, do you want to die?"
It's over.
This was the thought in everyone's mind.
Being caught smuggling contraband in a military-backed Scrap Yard meant losing a layer of skin even if you didn't die.
However, at this tense moment, Su Ming's reaction was beyond everyone's expectations.
He didn't panic or argue; he simply raised his hands slowly with a blank expression.
His movements were as innocent as a country boy who had just arrived in the city for the first time.
The acting skills he had honed during his three years of playing the "straight-A student" were pushed to the limit at this moment.
Su Ming was also speechless.
High-explosive armor-piercing shells? Do I look like someone who has that kind of potential?
I'm just swallowing the scrap screws from your workstation, brother.
He followed the standard posture from the police dramas he watched in his past life, holding his hands over his head, scanning the crowd, and finally landing his gaze on the furious Scarface Li, his tone full of grievance.
"Big brothers, what's going on?
Uncle Li, I'm just a loser who awakened [Increasingly Heavy], didn't you check my file yesterday?"
One sentence made Scarface Li's finger, which was ready to pull the trigger, freeze.
That's right.
He remembered.
F-grade, Increasingly Heavy, side effect: Osteoporosis.
A poor guy who gets passively heavier every day and whose bones are getting more brittle, what can he do? Be a spy?
Whose spy would use such a suicidal talent?
Scarface Li felt his old face couldn't hold up when he thought about how he was almost scared into firing by an F-grade loser.
Liu Feng also frowned; he wasn't an unreasonable man, but the instrument wouldn't lie.
"The instrument detected high-density material in your body," Liu Feng said in a cold voice.
"High density?" Su Ming acted as if he had heard the biggest joke, then gave a bitter laugh, his whole body slumping.
He pointed to his leg with a face full of sorrow, his acting natural.
"Big brother, my talent just constantly increases my own mass, basically, I just get heavier.
I was originally over seventy kilograms, but it's only been a few days since I awakened, and now I'm almost one hundred kilograms!
In a few more years, I'll crush myself to death."
"One hundred kilograms?" The Short-haired Lady blurted out, "With your small frame?"
"Big sister, this is the 'advantage' of my talent," Su Ming said with a bitter smile, "Weight goes up, physique stays the same. My bones are getting heavier, and sooner or later..."
This "emotional outburst" made the surrounding workers look at him with sympathy.
"Sigh, this young man looks perfectly fine, why is his fate so bitter?"
"Awakening is a gamble, thank goodness I didn't awaken."
Seeing that he had swayed the atmosphere, Su Ming struck while the iron was hot and took the initiative to say to Liu Feng.
"Big brother, if you don't believe me, you can take me to be tested.
You can even test me stripped down; my body is just a burden, how could I hide any treasure?"
He took the initiative to request a more precise scan.
This calmness made the suspicion in Liu Feng's eyes fade a little.
"Follow me."
Liu Feng waved his hand and led Su Ming into a small room next door with a sign that read "Precision Testing Room."
In the center of the room was a larger military medical scanner.
"Lie down."
Su Ming didn't say a word and lay down honestly.
As the instrument started, a virtual light screen unfolded in front of Liu Feng, showing a real-time perspective image of Su Ming's body.
The military medical device started, and the scanning light swept from Su Ming's chest all the way to his ankles.
The human skeletal imaging on the screen refreshed frame by frame.
A few minutes later.
Liu Feng's gaze jumped back and forth between the screen and Su Ming's somewhat thin frame.
Today's imaging stunned him.
Su Ming's heart also skipped a beat, so he quickly leaned over to take a look.
It was indeed absurd.
A normal person's bones under a medical device look gray and translucent.
You can see the dark shadows of the bone marrow cavity in the middle, just like hollow bricks.
Su Ming's bones were not like that.
The skeleton on the screen presented an extremely uniform deep white color.
No gaps, no hollow shadows of bone marrow cavities, seamless.
What was it like?
It was somewhat like the most standard solid load-bearing components in a factory.
With so many mass points added in, the density change couldn't be seen with the naked eye, but it had nowhere to hide under the military scanner.
"Big brother, don't mention it," Su Ming instantly adjusted to his "I'm bitter but proud" loser face, looking pained, "My talent... sigh."
"It's only been a few days since I awakened, and my weight has already increased by nearly twenty pounds. My physique hasn't changed, but it all went into my bones."
He patted his lower leg, making a dull sound.
Liu Feng ignored him and directly pulled up Su Ming's personal student file.
The system in this testing room was connected to the Federal Martial Arts Information Network.
"Su Ming, F-grade, Increasingly Heavy..." Liu Feng stared at the record on the file, his brows knitting together, "Side effect: Osteoporosis?"
He turned his head abruptly, walked two steps to the scanner, and magnified the skeletal image three times.
That solid, iron-cast-like skeleton on the screen, placed next to the words "Osteoporosis," was as absurd as a bad joke.
"Kid, your file and the test results don't match."
Liu Feng's voice lowered by half a degree, which was more oppressive than before.
"Do the bones of someone with Osteoporosis look like this? Give me an explanation."
Su Ming's heart skipped a beat, thinking, Oh no, I forgot about that.
He still had a bewildered expression on his face.
"Huh? Really? How about... we test again?"
Liu Feng tested him again.
The result was still the same.
The bone density was abnormal, and the reference level given by the instrument was: Pig Iron Grade.
Su Ming scratched his head, looking innocent.
"I don't know. I was definitely F-grade the day I awakened, many teachers and students can testify.
And that day I felt my bones were a bit soft... but these past few days, I feel my bones seem to be... getting harder."
Liu Feng was also stunned; he had been doing random inspections for over ten years and had never encountered such a situation.
The file said it was an F-grade loser talent, and the side effect was still Osteoporosis.
But the bone density shown by the instrument was higher than that of a D-grade Enhancement Type awakener.
Suddenly, a term flashed in his mind—
Secondary mutation!?
Holy crap, no way!
Liu Feng looked up abruptly, looking again at this somewhat foolish teenager.
This time, there was no interrogation in his eyes.
Replacing it was deep self-doubt and a sense of absurdity that made him want to curse!
