33: undercover

After finishing her instructions, Yi Nian took Shi Li's hand and walked forward.

Once they were within the range of the Japan Official Base, she began to turn them invisible.

Silently and without a trace.

The two of them walked through the main gate hand-in-hand, bold as brass.

Shi Li looked at their joined hands, the corners of his mouth curling up slightly.

To slowly wait for a flower to grow, to silently protect her and watch her bloom—he, Shi Li, had that kind of patience.

Nian Nian was sixteen this year; in two more years, she would be an adult.

Yi Nian had no distracting thoughts and obediently followed Shi Li's directions. The two of them headed toward the top floor of the main building in the shortest time possible.

As a top-secret area, ordinary people naturally couldn't enter.

But who could stop them when they were invisible?

They followed an Ability User dressed in a bodyguard's uniform,

and successfully entered the innermost room.

As soon as they entered, they saw a row of high-ranking Japanese officials sitting in a meeting.

Both sides were lined with Level 5 and Level 6 Ability Users.

Perhaps they had just reached a heated point in the discussion; when they arrived, the group was shouting, "Long live Great Japan!"

They looked like lunatics on drugs.

Yi Nian and Shi Li sat on empty chairs in the front, silently watching them finish their performance.

To avoid being detected by Mental-type Ability Users,

Shi Li continuously released his Mental Interference Ability throughout the process to hide their energy signatures.

“Haha, our Great Japan will occupy every inch of China's land and kill all its people. When the time comes, I'll turn them all into zombies to serve the citizens of Great Japan!”

“The humiliation from years ago is etched into each of our hearts!”

“Right! Now, we can finally wipe away that past shame! Haha... All the men will be made into zombies, but those women must be kept! Hehehehe...”

Several people burst into laughter, looking lewd and disgusting.

“Country M said the Undersea Base is very secure! So what if Japan has their spies? Nowadays, there are many mutated sea monsters in the ocean areas; ordinary people wouldn't dare to approach!”

“Besides, the Undersea Base is in such deep waters! Haha, who could touch those zombies...”

“Yes, China has always called us a tiny island nation, but so what? We have supreme wisdom. Their rich and vast lands will soon be ours! There will be no place left for the Chinese on Blue Star!”

Yi Nian couldn't understand Japanese.

She just felt that those people were babbling gibberish, and it sounded horribly unpleasant.

However, she could read the arrogant and insolent expressions on their faces; she figured they weren't saying anything good.

Fortunately, Brother Shi Li could understand.

She turned her head to look at him and was momentarily dazed.

If she had to name the best-looking man she'd ever seen, it would be Brother Mo Chi from Sister Lin Wan's family.

But Shi Li had a different kind of handsomeness.

She hadn't read much and couldn't describe it, but she just felt he had a captivating charm. Everyone always teased him for being an "iceberg," but she didn't feel that way.

When she first returned, she had many things she wasn't used to—the sudden, suffocating, and fire-like fatherly love, and the sympathy and pity that everyone tried their best to hide.

But they all meant well. Without them, she would have died in some unknown corner long ago. She couldn't be ungrateful.

Having lived alone in the world for so long, it could be said that some adults hadn't even experienced the hardships she had.

Meeting Sister Wanwan was the best gift Heaven had ever given her in all her years.

She shouldn't be so sensitive.

But there were always times she couldn't control herself, yet she didn't want to keep bothering Sister Wanwan. Everyone was an individual with their own life; she didn't want her bad moods to affect others.

Especially Sister Wanwan—it was no exaggeration to say she was like a second parent to her.

So, during that time, she spent her days training with Brother Mo Chi and the others, fighting monsters and collecting Crystal Cores, but at night, she liked to climb onto the roof while her father was fast asleep just to get some fresh air.

After Brother Shi Li happened to see her, he would always come up to accompany her.

He wasn't like Brother Ji Chuan, who always had a lot to say and knew how to make people happy.

Nor was he like Brother Mo Chi, domineering and rational, with eyes only for Sister Lin Wan.

He would just silently stay by her side, saying a word or two every now and then. His gaze never held pity or sympathy, only the most genuine emotions.

This made her feel very comfortable and at ease.

She truly felt like herself—not just Wang Peihua's daughter, and not just a pathetic little thing who had been abandoned since childhood.

Without her knowing when it started, sitting on the roof together on fixed days had become a tacit understanding between them.

Yi Nian couldn't help but crinkle her eyes in a smile. Looking down, she noticed he was holding a small recorder in his well-defined hand.

She hadn't thought of this at all.

Such important information really should be recorded.

Time passed quickly as this group spent most of the day daydreaming.

Shi Li originally thought they wouldn't gain any more useful information this time.

It wasn't until the last twenty minutes that they finally spoke the information they wanted to know most.

“Although most of the families we planted in China have been uprooted, the remaining Teng Gong Family and Mu Lin Family have now established the largest private bases in Capital City and Sea City.”
