112: Enemy artillery positions became our defenses
"Not good!"
Almost the instant the obelisks lit up with a red glow, Wang Yi's combat intuition triggered an alarm.
"All units disperse! Find cover! Those are turrets!"
Just as he finished speaking, dazzling blue energy orbs condensed at the tips of those hundreds of crystal-clear obelisks.
“Swoosh! Swoosh! Swoosh!”
In the next second, high-energy blue pulse beams, as dense as raindrops, sliced through the pitch-black seawater like the Grim Reaper's scythe, blanketing the three mechas!
"Holy crap! Again?!"
Chen Hu let out a strange cry and slammed the titan mech's power to maximum, thrusting his massive alloy shield in front of him immediately.
“Bang! Bang! Bang!”
Several beams struck the shield with precision, exploding into clusters of blinding energy sparks. Chen Hu felt a massive force surge through; the entire mecha was pushed back over a dozen meters, and alarms blared inside the cockpit.
[Warning! Left arm shield energy barrier dropped to 80%!]
[Warning! Unit subjected to high-intensity energy impact!]
"Damn! This thing's got some kick!" Chen Hu cursed as he steadied himself, his heart racing as he looked at the charred dents blasted into the shield.
This was just the power of a few beams; if he were focused by concentrated fire, his thick turtle shell wouldn't last a few seconds.
Wang Yi and Zhao Zihan relied on their mechas' mobility to weave through the gaps between the beams with extreme difficulty, but they were also forced into a frantic and pathetic scramble.
"No! The firepower is too intense! We can't break through!" Zhao Zihan's voice was urgent; her Hawkeye Submersible was the slowest and had nearly been grazed by beams several times.
"There are too many turrets, and they have no blind spots!" Wang Yi controlled the thor mecha, hiding behind a massive rock with a tight frown.
The scene before him reminded him of a tower defense game he used to play. And they were the poor little minions trying to dive the towers.
Inside the Dragon Country Operations Center, the atmosphere was equally tense.
"This defensive firepower is more terrifying than a salvo from an entire carrier strike group!" Li Guodong took a sharp breath as he watched the death barrage on the screen.
"Can we find a way to destroy them?" General Lin Zhan looked toward Su Yuan.
Su Yuan, however, had a relaxed expression, even finding the leisure to pick up his teacup and take a sip of water.
"Destroy them?" He smiled. "General Lin, such good things... it would be a pity to destroy them."
"Good things?" Lin Zhan was stunned. "They're about to turn our people into sieves, and you call them 'good things'?"
"In my eyes, these aren't turrets." Su Yuan's gaze swept across the system panel, and he tapped it lightly with his finger. "These are an honor guard. An honor guard specifically for welcoming our Dragon Team."
He looked at the local network structure of the Atlantis ruins analyzed by the system, a playful smile curling at the corner of his mouth.
"An ancient civilization from tens of thousands of years ago, yet its network firewall is still at a 'Stone Age' level. Trying to run automated programs in front of the Administrator? Isn't that like trying to teach a fish how to swim?"
Su Yuan's consciousness, like an invisible ghost, followed the back-end port provided by the system and easily infiltrated the control hubs of those obelisks.
He didn't even bother to crack any complex firewalls; he directly utilized Administrator privileges.
[Administrator Privilege: Information Tampering]
[Target: Atlantis Perimeter Defense Network]
[Instruction: Modify the Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) signal of the 'Dragon God' Mecha Squad from 'Unknown High-Threat Target' to 'Highest Authority Royal Patrol']
[Executing...]
[Modification Successful!]
The entire process was seamless, taking less than three seconds, and the national fortune points consumed were so few they were negligible... Inside the dungeon.
Just as Wang Yi was about to order Chen Hu to forcibly push through the fire to create an opening for him and Zhao Zihan, the sky-covering barrage of death suddenly stopped without any warning.
"Huh?"
Wang Yi was stunned, and everyone else was frozen in place.
One second it was a hail of fire, desperate to grind them into dust; how did they all collectively go silent the next?
While they were still in a state of uncertainty, an even more jaw-dropping scene occurred.
After those tall crystal obelisks stopped attacking, they actually turned their muzzles in unison, shifting from pointing at them to pointing outward toward the pitch-black deep sea.
Then, they fired again!
But this time, they weren't firing aimlessly. Instead, with extreme regularity, they wove a "Great Path of Light" composed of blue beams on both sides of the Dragon Team's path forward!
The beams dispelled the surrounding darkness, illuminating the only path leading to the city gates.
Then, the hundreds of obelisks, like well-trained soldiers, lined up on both sides with their muzzles pointing forward, assuming an escort posture.
It was as if they were saying: Distinguished guests, please.
"What... what's the situation?" Chen Hu asked stutteringly as he looked at the absurd scene, his brain having completely stalled.
"They... they're clearing the way for us?" Zhao Zihan's voice was also filled with disbelief.
Wang Yi was silent for a moment, then gave a bitter laugh and said over the team channel, "Stop guessing. Besides the Administrator, who else has such heavenly means?"
"Holy crap! The Administrator is too cool! He directly turned the enemy's turrets to our side?"
"This isn't just turning them; this is straight-up reinstalling their operating system!"
"Awesome! Besides 'awesome,' I really don't know what to say!"
After the brief shock, the team members erupted in cheers. This experience of turning decay into magic and instantly reversing a desperate situation into a smooth path was simply too thrilling!
"Don't celebrate too early." Although Wang Yi was also shaken, he remained calm. "Since the Administrator has paved the way for us, let's not waste time. Everyone, stay alert and move at full speed!"
"Yes!"
Flanked by the hundreds of "escort turrets," the three mechas held their heads high and sailed grandly toward the main city gates of Atlantis.
This comical yet shocking scene was broadcast to the entire world.
All the foreign viewers and commanders watching the live stream felt their worldviews being repeatedly crushed into the ground.
"Cheating! This is definitely cheating!"
"How is it possible? That's an automated defense system! How could it be controlled?"
"God, please tell me this isn't real! The Dragon Country people turned the enemy's turrets into their own honor guard?"
"It's over... completely over... How can we even fight this? They're literally changing the code!"
Meanwhile, at the Lighthouse Country Command Center, General Davis's face was as black as the bottom of a pot as he watched the triumphant Dragon Country mechas on the screen.
He knew that conventional means could no longer pose any threat to Dragon Country.
In that case... A flash of crazed ruthlessness crossed his eyes, and he picked up a red emergency communicator from the desk.
"Connect me to the Chief Executive."
"It's time. We must release the final pet."
