121: Chapter 121 Double Over-Specialization! Fortress-Class Polaris Arrives
The rate of change inside the cabin far exceeded Lu Chen's expectations.
At the seventieth second, the cockpit ceiling rose to eight meters.
The walls on the left and right had receded to a distance where they were barely visible.
The console itself was also growing larger.
The control panel extended forward by two meters.
New display screen slots sprouted from the panel surface amidst the blue light.
Three screens turned into six.
The radar panel went from one to three side-by-side.
The red button for full-weapon coordinated salvo moved from the center of the console to directly above the right armrest.
The position was much more convenient.
The physical frame of the fire control hub was recast in the blue light.
It transformed from a single-person control specification into a large side-by-side dual-seat command console.
However, all the newly added equipment had not yet been powered on.
Power was forcibly taken offline during the upgrade.
These devices were merely physical structures generated within the blue light.
They were just one final power-on moment away from official operation.
"City Lord!" Lin Wan's voice came from afar.
It was much further away than before.
"Where are you?"
"I'm still in the planting area, but the planting area has grown bigger!"
"How big?"
"I can't see the edges anymore!"
Lin Wan's voice echoed within the gradually expanding space.
It was an acoustic effect that could not possibly be produced in a small room with a three-meter ceiling.
Lu Chen stood up from the pilot's seat.
The floor beneath his feet was stable and quiet.
The vibration continued, but the intensity was uniform.
It was much softer than the first few dozen seconds.
He took five steps backward.
The partition door between the cockpit and the living area had disappeared.
To be precise, the door was still there, but its position had shifted fifteen meters backward.
The depth of the cockpit had changed from three meters to over eighteen meters.
A brand new corridor had appeared between the cockpit and the living area.
Lighting fixtures that had not yet been powered on were embedded in the walls on both sides of the corridor.
A horizontal structural dividing line appeared on the corridor's ceiling.
Above that line, the ceiling continued to rise another three meters.
Lu Chen looked up at that line.
It was the bottom of the second-floor slab.
During the upgrade process, the Polaris had changed from a single-story structure into a multi-story structure.
"Lin Wan."
"Yes!"
"Which floor are you on?"
"Which floor?" Lin Wan's voice revealed her confusion.
"City Lord, there's only one floor, right?"
"No, look above your head."
The other end of the communicator was silent for two seconds.
"There's a seam on the ceiling!"
"That's the bottom of the second-floor slab."
"A second floor?"
"The Polaris has at least two floors now."
Lu Chen turned around.
He took a look outside through the windshield at the very front of the cockpit.
The pale purple blue light dyed the windshield in cool tones.
Through the blue light, the icy surface of the Rustwind Wasteland was still there, but the perspective had changed.
The lower edge of the windshield was a full five meters higher than before.
The floor of the cockpit was no longer on the ground.
It had been raised to the second level.
"City Lord, what can you see outside?"
"The ice surface has become more distant."
Lu Chen walked back to the console.
He looked at the only system still running on the panel: the upgrade countdown.
The panel displayed an upgrade countdown of ninety-six seconds.
Ninety-six seconds.
Eighty-four seconds had passed.
On the exit platform of the fourth level of the Black Rock City-State, Zhou Yuan raised his binoculars for the third time.
The scene in the lenses was completely different from twenty seconds ago.
Twenty seconds ago, the Polaris's vehicle body was a rectangle where its original form could still be recognized.
Now, that rectangle had disappeared.
The steel structure within the blue light had transformed from a vehicle into a building.
"The length has broken one hundred meters."
Zhou Yuan's voice squeezed out from his throat.
"The width exceeds forty-five meters."
"What about the height?"
"I need to look up to see it."
Zhou Yuan lowered his binoculars.
He indeed needed to look up.
The top of that blue outline one hundred meters away was already higher than the ground level of the Black Rock City-State's fourth-level exit platform.
That meant the Polaris's roof height was at least over twenty meters.
"It's exceeding the size of the iron wall."
Zhou Yuan's voice was no longer restrained.
"The iron wall is a standard lv.3 fortress, nearly one hundred meters long and about twenty meters high."
"Now, the Polaris's length is already the same as the iron wall."
"It's still growing."
Lin Xiao stood in front of the railing, his eyes fixed on that steel behemoth continuously expanding in the blue light.
He didn't speak.
The crowd behind the platform didn't speak either.
Over three hundred people stood motionless in the minus forty-degree night wind, watching the blue light one hundred meters away.
It was so quiet that one could hear the wailing sound of the wind and snow scraping across The City-State's dilapidated walls.
"One hundred ten meters."
Zhou Yuan continued to call out the numbers.
"One hundred twenty."
"One hundred thirty."
"It's still growing!"
Horton's rough voice rang out from the side.
"Just how big is it going to get?"
"I don't know."
Lin Xiao's voice came from the deepest part of his chest.
"Last time he upgraded from lv.1 to lv.2, the area increased by more than five times."
"If it increases by five times this time too."
Zhou Yuan quickly calculated in his head.
"During the lv.2 period, it was twenty meters long and eight meters wide, with an area of one hundred sixty square meters."
"Five times that is eight hundred square meters."
"But now it's already over one hundred thirty meters long, and the area is far more than eight hundred."
"He said he obtained an over-specification bonus for being fully maxed out during the lv.1 stage."
Lin Xiao's voice lowered.
"It was also fully maxed out during the lv.2 stage, with all sixteen nodes present."
"A double over-specification bonus?"
"Correct."
Zhou Yuan was silent for two seconds.
"That goes far beyond the scope of just a fivefold increase."
The dome on the roof continued to expand within the blue light.
The transparent composite material panels continued to self-proliferate and grow under the guidance of the system's force field.
The highest point of the dome had already exceeded twenty-five meters from the ground.
The full-spectrum LED light strips inside the dome extended as the area expanded.
Warm, simulated sunlight radiated outward from the increasingly large transparent dome.
That light fell onto the ice surface of the Rustwind Wasteland.
Beyond the boundary of the fifty-meter radius snow-free zone.
On the lightless ice sheet.
That warm halo of light spilling from the dome spread out for over a hundred meters.
"Look at the dome."
Horton pointed at that light with his iron pipe cane.
"The glass shed where they grow vegetables, look how big it's gotten."
No one answered him.
Everyone saw it.
The dome had changed from a small arched shed above a twenty-meter war vehicle into a transparent giant cover spanning over a hundred meters.
The lights beneath the dome illuminated the entire area.
In the lightless deep night of the Rustwind Wasteland.
Beside the scarred ruins of the Black Rock City-State.
The brightness under that dome made everyone who saw it hold their breath.
"Battalion Commander Zhao!"
Lin Xiao grabbed the communicator.
"Here!"
Zhao Tiezhu's voice revealed a thickness never heard before.
"How big does it look from your side?"
"I see a blue one!"
Zhao Tiezhu's voice raised by half a degree.
"A blue behemoth!"
"It's bigger than the iron wall!"
"It's already bigger than the iron wall!"
Sounds of people exclaiming could be heard from inside the iron wall over the communicator.
Zhao Tiezhu's three hundred men also saw it.
The blue light could be seen from two kilometers away.
The upgrade countdown on the panel jumped to forty-four seconds.
The final forty-four seconds.
