108: Chapter 108 The Inquiry of the New Bishop
In the evening, Zhen Lu returned to his apartment, lay down on the bed, and touched his ring.
A white light flashed, and the Realm of Holy Light spread out beneath his feet.
He first switched into the Holy See's exclusive teleportation portal, passed through the main hall, turned into the side corridor, and pushed open the door to the Training Room.
Matthew was already waiting in the center of the concentric circles, with a Holy Light panel floating in front of him, and several rows of parameters were slowly scrolling.
Seeing Zhen Lu push the door open and enter, he raised his hand to close the panel and looked him up and down.
"You're here. Is your body okay?"
The tone of Matthew carried a hint of imperceptible concern, more than usual.
"I have fully recovered, thank you for your concern, Mentor."
Zhen Lu walked onto the concentric circles and stood still, his tone serious,
"If you hadn't contacted the Patrol Team immediately, I might still be hiding in the wilderness."
"You are my student; if something goes wrong, it's only natural for me to cover for you."
Matthew waved his hand and brought up the Holy Light panel again,
"Today's training content remains the same; let's get your state back first."
Zhen Lu nodded and began today's training with Matthew.
Mental Power guidance, instant disruption, and continuous output of Holy Light Infusion—he practiced each for several rounds.
After the training ended, Matthew patted his shoulder,
"Come on time tomorrow."
Zhen Lu did not leave immediately; he still had something to confirm.
"Mentor, New Bishop and Vice Bishop arrived at the cathedral today. I don't know if my spy status has been disclosed to them?"
Matthew thought for a moment,
"They haven't been notified yet. I don't know much about these two, so for now, whether you want to tell them or not, prioritize your own safety. If anything happens, just notify me. I've got your back."
"Thank you for the trouble."
Matthew did not say anything more, just patted the shoulder of Zhen Lu.
Zhen Lu came out of the Training Room, followed the corridor into the empty Training Room he usually used, and locked the door behind him.
He stood still in the center of the room and took out the scrolls from his backpack one by one.
First, he pulled out two Telekinesis scrolls and applied them to himself one by one.
White lights flashed in succession. His Telekinesis crossed the threshold from Mastery to Specialization. The tag in his skill bar jumped, and his Mental Power attribute immediately increased by four points.
He felt it for a moment; his Mental Power was slightly swelling inside his skull, and his perception range had expanded significantly.
Next, he pulled out two Strength Amplification scrolls and applied them to himself.
A white light flashed. Strength Amplification reached the Specialization level, his Strength attribute increased by four points, and a familiar tightness spread through his bones and muscles simultaneously.
Then came two Physical Enhancement scrolls, which reached the Specialization level, and his Physique attribute increased by four points.
He put away the remaining scrolls and did not use any more; a twelve-point attribute increase was enough to digest for tonight, and he feared his body would not be able to handle any more.
After doing this, he opened the mission list, found a simple Temporary Summoning mission, accepted it, and logged out of the game after finishing it.
A white light flashed, and he opened his eyes to the ceiling of his Central City apartment.
A familiar sense of hunger was surging from the depths of his body.
He rolled out of bed, walked to the kitchen, and rummaged through the cabinets to find the energy bars, chocolate, and protein powder he had stockpiled.
The twelve-point attribute increase had almost drained the energy reserves of his body. This time, he mainly ate some energy bars, and after eating only a little of the other high-calorie foods, the burning sensation was suppressed.
He drank a large glass of water, swept the empty packaging into the trash can, and leaned back on the sofa to recover for a moment, waiting for his body to fully adapt to the newly added attributes. Energy bars were a bit expensive, but they were truly effective.
After the discomfort in his body disappeared, he went to bed and fell into a deep sleep.
The next morning, he was awakened by the alarm on his communicator.
After washing up and changing into casual clothes, he pushed the door open and walked along the streets of Central City toward Saint Grace Cathedral.
He scanned his face to enter, passed through the portico, and then walked toward the side corridor.
He planned to look around the cathedral first, then go to the Guardian Branch.
He had not been sitting on the bench for long when a young monk walked over and said that the New Bishop requested his presence.
He stood up and walked along the corridor toward the office of the Bishop.
Pushing the door open, both the New Bishop and the Vice Bishop were there.
The two were sitting behind the desk, each with several documents spread out in front of them. The Vice Bishop looked up at him, holding a pen in his hand.
The New Bishop did not ask the Vice Bishop to leave; she simply raised her hand to signal him to sit in the chair opposite.
"Zhen Lu, I called you here today to confirm one thing."
The voice of the New Bishop was steady, neither particularly warm nor deliberately cold, with a completely professional tone,
"When the previous Bishop, Bishop Lin, was in office, he annotated your file with a 'Special Attention' tag."
"This tag is usually not assigned casually. I want to know if you have some special status."
Zhen Lu did not hesitate and admitted it directly.
"Yes. I do have a special status."
The New Bishop nodded slightly, waiting for him to continue.
The pen of the Vice Bishop stopped on the document, and he raised his eyes to look at him.
"This status was granted through direct contact with the Holy See's upper management, and the specific details involve some confidential arrangements. I have not yet received notification that I need to convey the relevant content to the New Bishop. If there is any subsequent notification, I will report it to you immediately. Before that, please allow me to keep it confidential for the time being."
The New Bishop looked at him for a moment, then picked up her teacup and took a sip, her tone steady:
"Since that is the case, then follow your confidentiality procedures. You are not the only person within the Holy See with confidentiality clearance; I will not press for details. If there is anything you need my cooperation with, you can come directly to me."
"There is nothing else now; you may leave."
The Vice Bishop withdrew his gaze and lowered his head again to correct the documents.
Zhen Lu stood up, bowed slightly to the two of them, then turned and pushed the door open to leave.
He passed through the side corridor and sat back down on the bench.
The New Bishop did not know the specific details, which meant Matthew had not informed the New Bishop about the spy status yet. This matter could only be decided by the higher-ups; he was just a small pawn.
He still had things to do today, so he would not waste time in the cathedral.
After Zhen Lu pushed the door and left, the voices in the office lowered.
The New Bishop waited until the footsteps in the corridor faded away before putting her pen on the documents and turning her head to look at the Vice Bishop.
"Pay special attention to this person."
Her voice was not loud, and her tone carried a sense of alertness,
"The previous attack on the spaceship has a direct connection to him; he was the only survivor on that spaceship. A D-level Healer, thrown out from that height—everyone else on the ship died, only he survived. This luck alone is worth noting."
The Vice Bishop put down his pen and crossed his fingers on the documents.
"Do you suspect his special status is related to the crash?"
"Not sure. But the 'Special Attention' tag in his file was annotated by the previous Bishop, and the previous Bishop is already dead. This timing is too coincidental."
The New Bishop picked up her teacup and took a sip. When the bottom of the cup was placed back on the table, it made a slight clinking sound,
"In my jurisdiction, there cannot be such people with unclear identities. Use other channels to inquire first and see if you can find any information about him. Do not alert him."
The Vice Bishop nodded, quickly wrote a few words on a memo, then picked up his pen again and continued to correct the documents.
Zhen Lu came out from the side door of the cathedral.
He left the square and walked along the streets of Central City toward the Guardian Branch.
When he reached the vicinity of the branch building, he did not rush to enter the main gate.
He first sat down on a public bench across the street and silently spread out his Mental Power and Electromagnetic Force.
Perception and virtual electronic technology operated simultaneously. His Mental Power and Electromagnetic Force field intertwined into an extremely fine net, beginning to infiltrate layer by layer from the perimeter of the Branch Bureau.
