142: Chapter 142 Rescue

Let us return our gaze to the protagonist.

Zhen Lu tumbled through the air, offering no resistance to the gentle force that had sent him flying, allowing himself to crash toward the sewer entrance in the corner of the plaza.

Like a black cannonball, he smashed through the manhole cover and whistled into the dark opening.

The moment he passed through the entrance, another gentle force caught him steadily.

Zhen Lu focused his eyes and saw that the person who had caught him was none other than the Deputy Director, who had been waiting here early on.

After catching Zhen Lu, the Deputy Director spoke in a low, rapid voice:

"The higher-ups have given orders; your mission is complete. Head south. Five hundred meters ahead, turn left, and walk another five hundred meters to find an exit."

"Go straight out from there. With your equipment, no one will easily discover you; just be careful and leave. Also, stay away from this battlefield."

Beneath his isolation suit, Zhen Lu nodded at him without saying another word, turned around, and ran.

He kept his speed in check, only slightly faster than an average person's physique, his footsteps muffled by the sound of flowing water in the dark sewer, making them nearly imperceptible.

After turning a corner and running out of the Deputy Director's line of sight, he instantly spread out his Electromagnetic Force. He scanned the area; there were no surveillance devices, no hidden cameras, and no other traces.

Confirming that the surroundings were completely safe, he stopped suppressing his speed and shot through the dark sewer like an arrow released from a bow, racing toward the direction the Deputy Director had indicated.

Just as he crawled out of the sewer exit, the night wind, carrying the muffled sounds of battle from afar, swept in from the end of the street, and a faint smell of burning hung in the air.

He did not rush to leave, first crouching in the shadows of the exit for a moment, keeping his breathing to a minimum.

Stealth was activated, and his figure completely vanished.

Camouflage was deployed simultaneously, covering all potentially leaking auras and energy fluctuations.

Confirming there was nothing unusual around him, he rose from the shadows and moved a distance closer to the battlefield.

He spread his Electromagnetic Force at full power, radiating from himself as the center to cover the entire battlefield area.

All nearby surveillance cameras, communication frequencies, street light sensors, and the onboard systems of flying cars parked on the side of the road became his eyes.

The intelligent agent was also summoned, hovering at the edge of his consciousness, assisting him in processing the massive amount of information flooding in from various nodes.

Through these electronic eyes, he could clearly see several figures entangled above the city.

The Director, the Psychic from the Council, and the Mage had surrounded K, and both sides were clashing fiercely in the air.

Further away, the members of the two escort flying cars from The Resistance were being besieged by people from the Branch Bureau; the rebels were being pinned to the ground one by one and handcuffed, nearly all of them about to be captured.

Zhen Lu crouched on the edge of the roof of an abandoned building, his pitch-black silhouette merging into the night, taking in all the scenes from a sufficiently safe distance.

He gradually expanded his monitoring range outward, while simultaneously sensing the presence of other C-Class Mechanics at work in the network.

They were likely C-Class Mechanics from the Branch Bureau, also monitoring the movements of the battlefield from the periphery.

Zhen Lu hid his own information behind theirs, preventing them from discovering him.

Thus, he monitored the entire situation in secret, waiting for an opportunity.

At this moment, a change occurred.

K felt he had been beaten up continuously and was likely to be caught, so he prepared to make a desperate final stand.

B-rank Experts all had ultimate moves, and his was equally not to be underestimated.

The moment he was being attacked by three strikes simultaneously, he directly detonated ninety percent of his Psychic power.

The ninety percent Psychic power swept through the other three people present like a storm, causing them to lose control of their bodies for an instant.

However, K did not counterattack; his remaining Psychic power could not cause enough damage, so he could only flee.

He aimed in one direction, instantly exerting his full force, and flew away.

The three could only watch helplessly; they had not yet regained control of their bodies and were forcibly frozen in mid-air, feeling extremely frustrated.

K's flight speed was extremely fast, and he soon disappeared from their sight.

The Director and the Psychic looked at the Mage simultaneously.

The Director asked, "Did you place a mark on him?"

"I placed it as soon as we started fighting," the Mage said, brow furrowed. "But that burst of his just now cleared all the marks. We can only pursue him by following the aura he left behind."

Meanwhile, below the battlefield, Zhen Lu had not been affected from the very beginning.

He lay in wait on the edge of the abandoned building's roof, his Electromagnetic Force spread at full power, locking tightly onto the direction of K's escape.

He rose silently from the roof, Psychic power erupting beneath his feet, and chased after him, skimming along with the night wind.

His flight speed was indeed not as fast as K's, and the distance soon widened.

However, his Electromagnetic Force was not limited by this; the signals from the electronic devices and communication frequencies scattered in the air were monitoring him clearly the whole time.

In contrast, those C-Class Mechanics from the Guardian Branch were intermittent after following halfway, and after chasing for a few more streets, they were completely shaken off.

But Zhen Lu's Electromagnetic Force remained firmly locked onto K's direction, with the signal never lost.

K's flight trajectory began to become erratic.

His speed shifted from a high-speed straight line to an intermittent zigzag, his altitude kept dropping, and his posture swayed unsteadily.

Having detonated ninety percent of his Psychic power and covered in wounds left by the Director and the councilors, it was already his limit to have managed to fly this far.

When Zhen Lu chased him to a low-rise residential area, the Electromagnetic Force signal stopped.

The buildings here were old and dense, the alleys narrow, and the streetlights sparse. He landed silently on the edge of the roof of one of the buildings, and his Electromagnetic Force scanned downward precisely.

On the third floor of a house below, in the room on the east side, K's aura was extremely weak, and he was leaning against the corner of the wall, closing his eyes to rest.

This was an opportunity.

With the power of the Psychic Meteor, as long as he gave him one shot at close range, he definitely wouldn't be able to run.

Moreover, he had just figured something out while on the battlefield.

K was a Psychic.

A Psychic's perception was far sharper than that of ordinary ability users; Psychic power itself was a kind of invisible, extending tentacle that could capture extremely subtle energy fluctuations in the surroundings.

He had stayed in the same room with K for so long; it was very likely that K's Psychic power had been shrouding the entire apartment the whole time.

When he went to the bathroom and used his Electromagnetic Force to contact the intelligent agent, he thought he was being covert, but that layer of Psychic power was right outside the door—would K have discovered him?

K must have discovered him.

Otherwise, there was no way to explain why, the moment the flying car was attacked, K's first reaction was not to protect him, but to grab him by the shoulders and hoist him up.

That was not an action a companion should have.

K had never considered him one of his own from the very beginning.

Zhen Lu had truly guessed correctly.

During their contact throughout the day, K seemed not to care much about his movements, but that layer of Psychic power had always been surrounding him.

When he used his Electromagnetic Force to contact the intelligent agent in the bathroom, K had indeed discovered it, knowing that Zhen Lu was hiding something.

Knowing he was not just a Healer, he had already had the intention to eliminate him tonight, though he did not show it on the surface.

Zhen Lu lowered his body, his fingers beginning to condense the energy of the Psychic Meteor in his palm.

He stared at that window, waiting for the best moment to strike.
