Chapter 92: To... Safety...?

Not daring to get out from behind the rock for a good few minutes after the ancient dire wolf disappeared with the unfortunate big forest rabbit, Scaly could not help wondering how this new ancient dire wolf was related to the ancient dire wolf attacking the human town.Part of her started to wonder if this second ancient dire wolf had also joined the fight with the humans after she had left.

If it had, there might not be any human town left for her to destroy when she got stronger in the future. After all, she doubted that the humans would stand a chance against two ancient dire wolves when they were already struggling so much dealing with a single one of them... And that was not mentioning the fact that this second ancient dire wolf was stronger than the first!

At the same time, as she slowly poked her head out from behind the rock and began following the path that the big forest rabbit had originally been moving along, Scaly couldn’t help cautiously moving along the edges of the ravine where she was hard to spot from above.

Although not there to grab her like it had done with the big forest rabbit earlier, Scaly had a feeling that the only reason for her escaping such a fate was due to the fact that she had remained somewhat hidden and outsight as the ancient dire wolf passed by overhead.

Does this ancient dire wolf perhaps live somewhere close to the ravine?

Not able to stop this thought from appearing as she watched the ancient dire wolf disappear for a second time, Scaly could not help feeling that she had been incredibly lucky to not accidentally run into the ancient dire wolf during the time she had been out hunting for food before having gone to sleep inside the former squirrel home.

At the same time, it also made her realize that it would be best for her to get away from her current location as fast as possible. Especially because it seemed like the ancient dire wolf was in the process of hunting for food.

Even if she had run into the weaker ancient dire wolf without it attacking her back at the ancient dire wolf mountain, she wasn’t dumb enough to believe that this new ancient dire wolf would leave her alone if it managed to spot her.

After all, the reason the weaker ancient dire wolf left her alone should simply be because it wasn’t hungry and didn’t view her as a threat. Finding it much better to just allow her to roam around as an emergency snack in case it got hungry.

Of course, after exploring the forest she currently found herself in, she also realized that the weaker ancient dire wolf might have mistaken her as one of those weak lizards roaming around the forest scavenging for anything to eat.

Not bothering to think too long about the thoughts of the two dire wolves and the possible reasons they might have to leave her alone in case they happened to find her, Scaly decided to give up on trying to find out where the big forest rabbit had been moving and decided to start making her way out of the ravine to get as far away from the new and stronger ancient dire wolf as fast as possible.

No matter how curious she might be about the big forest rabbit and the path it and the rest of the big forest rabbits had used to enter the ravine safely, it was far from enough to get her to risk her life. Even more so considering that the ancient dire wolf seemed to have a home somewhere around the ravine.

However, just as she managed to climb out of the ravine, she happened to run into a group of humans who had just come out of the forest.

Even worse, from a casual inspection of the group, even the weakest among them had reached level 50-

"Huh? A lizard...?"

And they just happened to spot her as she poked her head up over the edge of the ravine. Making them freeze on the spot in surprise alongside herself, as both sides just stared at each other without saying anything for a short moment.

"WAIT! Isn’t that the lizard that was rumored to have broken into the town back then!?"

"Now that you say it... I do remember chasing that lizard for a bit before it disappeared... I never thought we would run into it after setting out on an expedition after failing to catch it."

"Now that I think about it, I did hear quite a bit of people talking about selling its scales to some nobles at a high price back then..."

"Indeed... That does sound plausible..."

Even worse, it seemed like this group of powerful humans had been part of the ones that had caused her to escape into the human town in the first place!

Not intending to wait around for these humans to attack her to take her scales and sell them off, Scaly directly turned around and made her way back into the ravine without a second thought-

"After it! Don’t let it escape!"

"I know! You don’t have to scream like that!"

Not a second later, the humans up above realized that she was trying to escape, as they quickly jumped into the ravine to chase after her.
