5: Chapter 5: Battle against [Yang Wulang]!
Hearing this, Yang Wulang thought for a long while with a dazed expression, rubbed his large bald head, and said,
"I have never heard of it."
At this moment, an inexplicable light flashed in Sun Po's eyes.
The famous Yang Family General, Yang Wulang!!
The founder of the Wulang Eight Trigrams Staff!!
After the Battle of Golden Sands, he became a monk on Mount Wutai,
later, still caring for his country, he led the "Monk Soldiers" he trained to help the Song Dynasty defeat the Liao Kingdom's Heavenly Gate Formation.
He was commonly referred to as "Yang Wulang" or "Monk Wulang."
Folk temples dedicated to him, known as Wulang Temples, exist because people remember his loyalty and patriotism, honoring him as "Grand Master" and "Fifth Lord."
While Sun Po was reminiscing, Yang Xinyue put down her long spear and said,
"Wulang, go back to your card and rest. You'll be busy this afternoon."
Yang Wulang looked at the shattered wine jar and said to Yang Xinyue,
"Five jars!"
Then he transformed directly into a deep purple card.
Yang Xinyue pinched her brow, laughingly cursed him as a drunkard, and put away the card.
Seeing Sun Po's curious face, she pulled him over in a headlock and laughed,
"Not bad, Little Sun. Your rolling was pretty good, much faster than I expected."
Sun Po was speechless.
That's a great compliment. Please don't compliment me next time.
...
At noon, while eating lunch, Sun Po was still thinking about the battle from the morning.
"Sister Xinyue, are you saying that Yang Wulang was just a green 3-star Monk Soldier at first?"
Yang Xinyue mumbled as she gnawed on a large pork shank,
"Yeah, he wasn't even as good as Changyou. He was all dazed and silly, and he couldn't even speak."
"And after that?"
Yang Xinyue looked up, reminiscing.
"Later, during a secret realm exploration, I found two materials called 'ordination certificate' and 'monastic knife.'
At that moment, I felt a sudden stir in my heart.
I really trust these sudden whims.
So I bought those two materials at a high price.
This kind of intuition is extremely crucial. Though I don't know the reason,
this feeling has indeed saved and helped me many times.
You should pay attention to it in the future too."
Sun Po nodded, and Yang Xinyue continued.
"Later, Wulang would look at them every day.
As he looked at them, he eventually learned to speak and remembered that his name was Yang Wulang.
Later, when I was taking the Gaokao, I ran into a formidable opponent.
At the critical moment, Wulang's stat panel changed.
A skill called Wulang Eight Trigrams Staff was added.
It wasn't until I went to college that I learned this is called true name awakening."
Sun Po understood.
Yang Xinyue grew more and more excited as she spoke:
"In the end, this lady and Wulang absolutely crushed those so-called children of prestigious families"
"and super geniuses in the Gaokao arena, forcing them to throw away their armor as we slaughtered our way into the national top one hundred!!"
Sun Po could no longer remain calm.
"Alright, Sister Xinyue, your boasting is getting more and more ridiculous."
Hearing this, Yang Xinyue gave him a rap on the head.
"You dare rain on my parade? I'll teach you a good lesson this afternoon!"
...
In the afternoon, Sun Po realized that Yang Xinyue's so-called "good lesson" was no exaggeration.
Because Yang Wulang had officially joined the battlefield.
Yang Wulang truly lived up to being a purple 6-star true name card.
When he attacked with the bin-iron staff in his hand, his strikes were heavy and powerful, shaking the Desolate Beast Species Changyou so hard that it bared its teeth and shook its wrists.
When defending, he swung it so tightly that not even a drop of water could seep through.
Additionally, because the surroundings were extremely dry, Changyou's strength seemed to have shrunk a bit.
The Wulang Eight Trigrams Staff was a staff technique derived from the I Ching, rich in variations, with its sixty-four forms corresponding to the sixty-four hexagrams of the I Ching.
Among them, the "Green Ivy Wrapping the Tree" corresponding to the "Xun Hexagram," combined with the "Clay Ox Entering the Sea" corresponding to the "Kan Hexagram,"
once executed, made for a champion combination skill to trap enemies.
Even though Changyou used a water staff condensed from rainwater, which was more flexible and versatile, it was still firmly stuck to that bin-iron staff.
Furthermore, because the opponent's star level was higher than its own, every staff strike was heavy and powerful, leaving Changyou's claws feeling numb.
What about Student Sun Po?
Poor Sun Po was rolling so much that sparks were almost flying.
He had Changyou to save him in the morning, but there was no such help in the afternoon.
Basically, he could only block one strike with the sword in his hand before it was knocked away.
Then, he had to start rolling.
After all, the physically unconditioned Sun Po only needed to do this:
roll when his sword flew away, and pick up his sword after rolling.
Our teacher Yang Xinyue, however, had a lot more to consider.
...
The great sun sank to the west, and colorful clouds filled the sky.
Sun Po could no longer remember how many times he had been whipped by that long spear; he only felt a severe pain all over his body.
But Sun Po did not complain of hardship or exhaustion, nor did he call for a stop.
After all, when facing problems, shouting was meaningless; only endurance and thinking could find the opportunity for victory.
Sun Po felt numb, but he seemed to be able to see Yang Xinyue's spear trajectory a little more clearly.
"Clang! Clang! Clang!"
This time, Sun Po blocked three spear strikes.
Sun Po's brain was dizzy at this moment, and he was about to roll unconsciously.
Suddenly, he felt himself being lifted up.
"Alright, let's call it a day. Being able to block three strikes of the Yang Family Spear is pretty good."
Yang Xinyue would certainly not tell him that she couldn't even block a single strike from her father during her first week.
Sun Po's dazed mind finally recovered.
"Sister Xinyue, although it's only the first day, I feel like I've gained a lot."
Yang Xinyue looked at the other side of the yard and said,
"Although your performance today was indeed decent, compared to Changyou, our human talent is still too poor."
Following Yang Xinyue's gaze, Sun Po looked toward the other side of the yard.
At this moment, the battle between the two purple cards had reached a fever pitch.
Yang Wulang was no longer as relaxed and casual as he was at the start of the afternoon; his large bald head was now covered in sweat.
He had even taken off his monk robes, revealing fine, dense scars across his body.
But Changyou was not having an easy time either; its right arm hung limply, clearly drained of strength.
It could only hold that rainwater staff with its left hand, scurrying around the rooftop to wage guerrilla warfare.
Yet, Changyou managed to avoid Yang Wulang's fatal strikes every single time in the nick of time.
Its footsteps vaguely carried an indescribable sense of elegance, which combined wonderfully with its wild movements,
making it so that even Yang Wulang, who mastered the Eight Trigrams Steps, could do nothing to it.
Furthermore, Changyou still had the strength to counterattack. Although it was wielding the staff with one hand, the staff technique it used was no longer without order,
it had actually started to execute the Wulang Eight Trigrams Staff quite decently.
Coupled with the occasional flash of its golden eyes, another wound would appear on Yang Wulang's body.
Although the actual damage was not high, it made Yang Wulang look exceptionally miserable.
Sun Po saw it clearly.
That was Golden Eyes Exorcising Evil paired with Water Control,
allowing Changyou to turn the sweat on Yang Wulang's body into fine blades, slashing Yang Wulang from time to time.
But Yang Wulang's physical fitness was no joke either; he literally scabbed and healed while being slashed.
Although he looked miserable, he actually didn't suffer much injury.
Yang Xinyue said calmly, "Changyou is about to lose."
Sure enough, within moments, Changyou was caught by Yang Wulang on the rooftop and knocked over with a sweep of the staff.
Immediately after, Yang Wulang raised his iron staff high, about to strike down.
Seeing this, Sun Po was about to call for a stop, but suddenly heard Changyou's wild neighing in his mind.
"This Spirit Monkey's stubborn dog temper can't be changed even with the Changyou MOD loaded,"
Yang Xinyue stepped forward.
"Stop, Wulang."
Just as the words left her mouth, before Yang Wulang could lower his highly raised bin-iron staff, suddenly—
"Rumble!"
With a loud crash, from the huge colorful clouds on the horizon,
a bolt of lightning struck straight down,
landing right on the iron staff Yang Wulang held high. Instantly, a faint scent of roasted meat wafted through the air.
