290: Supervise!
The night was deep; Li Shengyuan and Pei Shuyun talked in detail for a long time within the secluded manor.
Pei Shuyun told Li Shengyuan everything she knew about the Demon Cult Leader's plan in as much detail as possible, including some internal movements within the Pei family and traces of possible collusion with other forces.
Li Shengyuan listened with a grave expression, his heart churning with waves, but he maintained a calm exterior and noted down all the information one by one.
When parting, Li Shengyuan took out a specially crafted communication jade talisman and handed it to Pei Shuyun. The talisman was engraved with intricate runes that faintly connected to his own aura.
"Keep this safe. If there is an emergency or any new discoveries, use this to contact me. Remember, prioritize your own safety above all else; do not take risks lightly," Li Shengyuan solemnly urged.
Pei Shuyun took the jade talisman, which still carried his body heat, and clutched it tightly in her palm. A soft smile appeared on her face, and she nodded vigorously:
"I understand... You... must also be careful in everything."
Li Shengyuan took a deep look at her, said nothing more, and with a flicker of his figure, he vanished like green smoke into the vast night.
Leaving the manor, Li Shengyuan did not head directly back to the Li residence.
The news brought by Pei Shuyun was too shocking, like a heavy stone weighing down on his heart.
If what she said was true, the Demon Cult Leader's scheme was no longer about a single city, a single piece of land, a single country, or a single region; it was to drag the entire world into an abyss of destruction!
By then, even if the territory of Great Qian had him and the Chancellor guarding it, it would be safe for a while, but what if the overseas regions, the Southern Border, the Demon Barbarians, and even the Western Demon Domain were blood-refined one after another?
With the drastic changes in the world's Origin Qi and the collapse of the Laws, how could Great Qian stand alone?
When the nest is overturned, how can any egg remain intact!
If that Demon Cult Leader could truly shake the territories of the world, it meant that the power he controlled, or the forces cooperating with him like the Pei family, were likely not few in number!
This matter must be discussed with the old Chancellor immediately!
His thoughts raced, and he immediately changed direction, his figure moving like lightning as he sped toward the Imperial Observatory.
The Imperial Observatory was, as always, shrouded in a quiet and mysterious atmosphere. In the dead of night, only a few halls remained lit.
Li Shengyuan walked straight in. Just as he stepped onto the peaks of the Imperial Observatory, he saw the silent figure of Ye Hangzhou standing to one side, with the Black Crow Coal Ball on his shoulder tilting its head to look at him.
"Caw! Li, what wind blew you here in the middle of the night?"
Coal Ball flapped its wings and spoke in its unique, raspy voice, while Ye Hangzhou just watched him quietly.
"Why aren't you cuddling with your soulmate and sleeping instead of coming here in the middle of the night!"
Ye Hangzhou tilted his head to look at Coal Ball on his shoulder. These weren't words he wanted to say, but he didn't say anything.
This guy has learned bad habits.
Li Shengyuan had no heart for small talk and said directly: "Xingzhou, I have an urgent matter that I need to discuss with the Chancellor immediately."
He paused, then asked, "Have your Senior Brother and Little Junior Brother returned from the Western Regions?"
Ye Hangzhou shook his head slightly, and Coal Ball answered on his behalf: "Senior Brother and the kid Song Zhen are still messing around in the Western Regions; the old man hasn't given the word for them to come back."
Hearing this, Li Shengyuan understood in his heart.
The Chancellor keeping Chu Chunqiu and Song Zhen in the Western Regions was definitely not without purpose.
The Western Regions were vast and bordered the Western Demon Domain, making them a potentially important part of the Demon Cult Leader's plan.
The Chancellor's move was clearly a precaution taken long ago; perhaps he had already sensed the Demon Cult Leader's greater scheme.
Thinking of this, Li Shengyuan breathed a slight sigh of relief. This old guy was truly as cunning as ever, seeing ten steps ahead for every one he took.
"I understand. Please lead the way, Xingzhou."
Ye Hangzhou said nothing more and turned to lead the way.
The two passed through layers of halls and followed the winding stone steps, ascending directly to the Star Gazing Platform at the highest point of the Imperial Observatory.
On the Star Gazing Platform, the night wind howled, blowing their robes about.
Looking up, the stars in the sky seemed within reach, and the vast Milky Way spanned the horizon.
Looking down, one could see the prosperity of the Capital of Great Qian.
The Chancellor was still wearing that old Daoist robe, standing with his back to them, his hands behind his back, gazing up at the boundless starry sky, as if he had been standing there since time immemorial.
After Ye Hangzhou brought Li Shengyuan, he bowed slightly, preparing to retreat silently as usual.
However, the Chancellor spoke slowly at this moment, his voice calm yet carrying an unquestionable tone:
"Xingzhou, you stay as well."
Ye Hangzhou's steps paused, and he stopped as instructed, standing quietly to one side.
Coal Ball also became uncharacteristically quiet, its dark, beady eyes looking at the Chancellor and then at Li Shengyuan.
In front of this person, it dared not be in the slightest bit presumptuous or flighty.
It didn't even dare to pry into the old man's thoughts.
Li Shengyuan had no heart to admire the beautiful starry sky. He stepped forward quickly, arriving behind the Chancellor, his expression unprecedentedly serious, and asked directly in a deep voice:
"Old man, regarding the Demon Cult Leader... how much do you actually know?"
