312: Pei Shuyun's talent!
Li Shengyuan and Long Yun's figures flickered a few times under the moonlight, returning to the vicinity of the inn run by a Wood Demon where they had previously stayed.
Before they even got close, the two sensed that the atmosphere around the inn was unusual. The air was filled with faint, lingering fluctuations of demonic power and the scent of blood.
The originally tidy inn courtyard now had a collapsed corner wall.
Several demonized vines used as decoration had been severed by sharp energy, and there were several charred marks and patches of wet, dark red blood on the ground.
Clearly, a battle had occurred here not long ago.
Seeing this, Long Yun's expression changed slightly, and her heart tightened. "Oh no! Could that fellow Green Rhinoceros have sent other subordinates to move against the Young Master's companion?"
"We were held back by that demonic emissary and Green Rhinoceros, and we neglected this place!"
She immediately thought that Pei Shuyun might have met with disaster or been captured, and her tone couldn't help but carry a hint of urgency and self-reproach.
However, Li Shengyuan, standing beside her, remained calm and indifferent.
His gaze swept over the residual Demonic Qi and blood, and a faint, knowing curve even appeared at the corner of his mouth.
"It's fine..." Li Shengyuan's voice was steady, showing no sign of worry. "Just some miscellaneous demons temporarily driven by the Green Rhinoceros Demon King, or perhaps those originally lurking near the inn. They amount to nothing. With Shuyun's skill, she can handle it."
He paused and added, "If she couldn't even handle a scene like this, she wouldn't have dared to follow me deep into the Demon Domain."
Hearing this, Long Yun's suspicion grew even stronger.
Judging by Li Shengyuan's tone, he seemed to have absolute confidence in this "Pei Shuyun's" strength.
One must know that those sent to execute missions on the Green Rhinoceros Demon King's territory, even if not top-tier experts, were definitely not mediocre.
They were at least at the Fourth or Fifth Rank, and likely in significant numbers.
Li Shengyuan actually dismissed them so lightly as "miscellaneous demons" and "amounting to nothing"?
Previously, according to her perception, Pei Shuyun was only at the Fourth Rank.
Could it be...? She suppressed the doubt in her heart and didn't ask further, only following Li Shengyuan more curiously into the slightly messy inn courtyard.
The inn was silent; the original shopkeeper and small demons had hidden away somewhere.
Following the residual traces of demonic power and a hint of a familiar aura, the two soon arrived before a relatively intact independent small building in the backyard.
Pushing open the half-closed door, the scene inside caused Long Yun's pupils to constrict slightly.
The room was brightly lit and the furnishings were basically intact, except for a few fresh slash and scorch marks on the floor and walls.
In the open space in the middle of the room lay five or six corpses of the Yao Race in various forms.
From the demonic power fluctuations remaining on them, they were shockingly all Great Demons of the Fourth Rank Realm!
And the woman named Pei Shuyun was sitting safely by the table reading a book... She was dressed in sharp, tight-fitting clothes, her figure slender and elegant, her charming face carrying an indescribable intelligence and serenity.
What shocked Long Yun's heart the most was that the aura faintly radiating from Pei Shuyun at this moment was no longer the Fourth Rank Realm she had felt when they first met... but a genuine Third Rank!
Although she seemed to have achieved the Breakthrough recently and her cultivation was still in the stabilization stage, the leap in level was real.
Although Long Yun had been mentally prepared, knowing that someone who could follow Li Shengyuan into a dangerous land was no mediocre person, she still couldn't help but be stunned upon seeing this scene with her own eyes.
A Third Rank cultivation, no matter where, was considered a top-tier powerhouse!
What confused her even more was that the name "Pei Shuyun" could not be found among the young talents or established experts of the various factions she knew.
Yet... she vaguely felt it was somewhat familiar, as if she had glimpsed it in some obscure corner of intelligence.
Just then, Pei Shuyun sensed something and looked up.
Seeing Li Shengyuan and Long Yun appear at the door, her calm eyes suddenly brightened.
She put away the book, stood up, and quickly walked to Li Shengyuan.
"Shengyuan, you're back."
She first gave Li Shengyuan a quick look-over. Seeing his aura was steady and his clothes were as clean as before, without even a hint of fatigue after battle, a flash of relief crossed her eyes.
Immediately after, her gaze lingered for a moment on the slightly surprised Long Yun beside Li Shengyuan.
As clever as she was, combined with the previous battle and the composure with which Li Shengyuan and Long Yun arrived side-by-side, she instantly guessed the general situation.
She didn't ask what had happened, nor did she express much surprise at Long Yun's appearance.
Instead, she looked directly at Li Shengyuan, her lips curling slightly as she asked in a clear voice:
"It seems the matter has been resolved? That Green Rhinoceros Demon King... must have been executed, right?"
Her tone was flat and natural, as if she were asking "have you had dinner yet" rather than inquiring about the life or death of a Second-Rank Demon King who dominated a region.
Hearing this question, even with Long Yun's Heart-Nature, she couldn't help but have the corner of her eye twitch slightly.
This... this way of thinking was indeed unique.
When an ordinary person learns their opponent is a Second-Rank Demon King, their first reaction would likely be worry about whether they could escape or how tragic the battle was.
How could they be like her, directly defaulting to the assumption that Li Shengyuan had already killed him, and asking so matter-of-factly?
This absolute trust in Li Shengyuan's strength, or rather, the cognitive habit that "if Li Shengyuan acts, it will inevitably be resolved," was something only those close to him would have, right?
Hearing this, the gentle smile on Li Shengyuan's face deepened a bit, and he nodded. "Mhm, it's resolved."
"Along with a blind Esteemed Emissary of the Demonic Cult, I dealt with them all."
His tone was relaxed, as if he had just cleared away two annoying bugs.
Pei Shuyun nodded understandingly, not at all surprised by this result.
Her gaze swept over Long Yun, and she gave a slight nod in greeting.
"This is not the place for a detailed talk," Li Shengyuan said to Pei Shuyun, looking around at the mess and corpses in the room.
"Pack up, let's leave here first. I'll tell you the details on the way."
Pei Shuyun responded with a "good." She moved briskly to check herself, confirming she hadn't missed any important items, and then casually flicked a few sparks onto the Yao Race corpses.
The sparks incinerated the corpses into ashes in the blink of an eye, and even the residual demonic energy was purified quite a bit. Her technique was clean and efficient.
After doing this, she walked to Li Shengyuan's side with a smile, her eyes resting quietly on him as she waited for the next instruction.
Li Shengyuan smiled back and took her jade-like hand.
"Let's go, to the Sacred Dragon Domain!"
