219: Small Beast Tide

Gu Xiaoyue curled her lips, thinking that the phenomenon when she awakened her talent was indeed not as obvious as a Heaven-rank phenomenon.

She glanced at the pale-faced Bai Yao and Bao Shenglei, then walked forward.

"Still clamoring? Why don't I issue a challenge to you on behalf of White Gaze to settle the grudges of the past ten-plus years?"

The originally pale-faced Bai Yao instantly turned red, his whole face flushed crimson.

"A Heaven-rank talent wants to challenge me? Isn't that bullying? Is having a Heaven-rank talent so amazing?!"

Gu Xiaoyue nodded solemnly.

"It is amazing! If you had realized over these past ten-plus years that White Gaze would awaken a high-rank talent in the future, you wouldn't have to worry about living under someone else's thumb later on!"

Every word Gu Xiaoyue spoke was like a steel needle piercing into Bai Yao's heart!

How could he have imagined that White Gaze, who had been unloved and uncared for since childhood, could truly awaken a Heaven-rank talent!

He only regarded White Gaze as a child the Royal Family didn't want; bullying him was like bullying someone from the Royal Family, which gave him quite a sense of pleasure.

"You, don't get cocky! Even if White Gaze has good talent, he still needs to become successful!"

There are so many geniuses in the world; only those who grow into towering trees are true geniuses!

Geniuses who die young only make people sigh in regret!

After Bai Yao finished speaking, he took his people and slunk away.

Gu Xiaoyue certainly knew that not only was White Gaze being raised well, but he was also destined to become the Third Prince in the future!

She disdained arguing with Bai Yao and pulled White Gaze and Uncle Luosang away to have a big meal.

Uncle Luosang's eyes were also red, and during the meal, he drank quite a bit of alcohol because he was happy.

He didn't eat much food, instead mixing beer, rice wine, and mare's milk wine.

He seemed particularly happy, so Gu Xiaoyue and White Gaze didn't try to persuade him otherwise, letting Uncle Luosang drink to his heart's content.

Having drunk alcohol, Uncle Luosang naturally couldn't drive.

Gu Xiaoyue simply booked two rooms at a downtown hotel for the night.

She slept in one, and White Gaze took care of Uncle Luosang in the other.

She intended to return home the next morning.

Unexpectedly, early the next morning, the entire city area was locked down and under martial law.

The hotel waiter pounded heavily on the door, "Guests, wake up! Guests, wake up! A Beast Tide is coming; everyone must gather at the Central Plaza!"

After knocking on Gu Xiaoyue's door, he hurried off to knock on the next one.

A Beast Tide?

Gu Xiaoyue raised an eyebrow; this was more experience points delivered to her door!

But upon second thought, this was Damon Country, and she didn't know who was defending against the Beast Tide; they probably wouldn't let her go to the front lines.

Besides, she didn't want to expose her strength too much, so it was better to keep a low profile!

She quickly washed up and went to White Gaze's room to find them.

Uncle Luosang had drunk too much, and his eyes were still quite swollen.

Perhaps he had gotten drunk last night and cried in each other's arms with White Gaze while reminiscing about the bitterness of the past.

Following the waiter's instructions, they went to the Central Plaza together.

A circle of soldiers stood around, and a man in white clothes and silver armor sat on a date-red horse.

The date-red horse was likely his pet beast, its size twice as large as a normal horse.

The man wasn't sitting properly either, but rather half-leaning on the saddle, appearing somewhat uninhibited and dissolute.

"Bai Shengrui?" White Gaze frowned, seemingly recognizing the man and naturally feeling a physiological revulsion.

"You know him?"

White Gaze lowered his eyes and pursed his lips. "He hasn't changed much since we were children; actually, I should call him—Second Brother."

Gu Xiaoyue saw his resistant emotions, patted his shoulder, and said indifferently.

"Don't worry about him; when the Beast Tide passes, we'll go home. As for whether or not to return to the capital, that naturally requires your father to send someone to pick you up openly and honestly! Before that, we just need to focus on getting stronger!"

White Gaze nodded; he still remembered being bullied by Bai Shengrui when he was young, and naturally, he didn't want to have any dealings with him.

Sister was right; even if he were to return to the capital, he needed to increase his strength. Otherwise, if he were still bullied and had his resources plundered despite having a Heaven-rank talent, that would be too pathetic!

Everyone in the city was gathered at the Central Plaza, crowded and packed together.

With so many people, it was inevitably noisy, so Gu Xiaoyue simply sat quietly to rest.

White Gaze, on the other hand, secretly practiced horse stance in the crowd; if one didn't observe carefully, they would think he was sitting on a stool.

The Thunder Flame Golden Roc's feathers hadn't fully grown yet, but it had already started training its skills on its own last night, which made him very gratified.

It seemed this companion beast's temperament was even more tenacious than his own!

From the time the sky was just barely light, everyone waited until dusk, yet the alert had not been lifted.

Just how many ferocious beasts were there to be fighting until now?

Gu Xiaoyue made an excuse to go to the restroom, released Xiao Mo, and had him go investigate while invisible.

Before long, Xiao Mo returned; it was said that this Beast Tide was only about two thousand mature Rank 3 or 4 Silver Moon Gray Wolves.

"Only Rank 3 or 4, and they've been fighting for so long over two thousand of them?"

Gu Xiaoyue couldn't quite believe it; the key was that the Royal Family had mobilized, so couldn't they have arranged for a few more high-level combatants?

Just as she wanted to complain, Bai Shengrui, not far away, started muttering.

"Only about two thousand gray wolves, and low rank at that; what kind of profit is there! And I was specifically sent here; I don't know what kind of whim Mother had!"

He cracked melon seeds and stretched, looking leisurely.

He was just a supervisor; naturally, there were Beastmasters at the front line to withstand the Beast Tide.

It wasn't until the sky was completely dark that his subordinates came to report that this Beast Tide had been successfully repelled.

"Good, the alert is lifted; let the commoners go back and rest!"

Bai Shengrui gave his personal guard a wink, then rode away.

As for this Beast Tide, the matter of falsifying accounts to skim some profit was left to his subordinates to handle.

Everyone headed home one after another, but Gu Xiaoyue, White Gaze, and Uncle Luosang couldn't go back, so they had to make do for one more night at the hotel.

Since they had decided, they went to a restaurant for a full meal before returning to the hotel.

As luck would have it, Bai Shengrui also arrived at this hotel with his guards to check in.

"Your Highness, should we clear the place?"

Bai Shengrui's guard asked respectfully; Gu Xiaoyue and the others were staying on the second floor.

She was halfway up the stairs, looking down at Bai Shengrui's attitude from above.

"No need to make a big fuss. The Beast Tide has just ended; if we drive out the commoners who are staying here, they'll have to find a new place to stay. Keep the best room for me; you can arrange the other empty rooms yourselves."

Bai Shengrui looked up and happened to meet Gu Xiaoyue's gaze. He blinked his peach-blossom eyes, revealed a faint smile, and nodded to Gu Xiaoyue in acknowledgement.

Gu Xiaoyue raised an eyebrow slightly; it seemed this Bai Shengrui was quite considerate of the people, though she didn't know if it was just an act.

White Gaze was walking in front of Gu Xiaoyue; he paused, glanced back at Bai Shengrui, and then returned to the room with Uncle Luosang.

That night, Gu Xiaoyue couldn't sleep, tossing and turning on the bed.

She always felt that Bai Shengrui's smile contained a hint of something eerie.

Until around one o'clock in the morning, she felt a fleeting trace of killing intent.

Gu Xiaoyue suddenly sprang up from the bed, concealed her figure, and rushed out—
