Chapter 166 System Deduction
At five o'clock in the morning, a hint of dawn had already appeared on the horizon of the Gobi Desert.
In Li Xiao's server room, three servers were still running at full speed. On the screen, sixty thousand out of a hundred thousand sets of simulation data had been processed, and the progress bar showed 63%.
Chen Xueming sat beside her, his eyes fixed on the scrolling data, motionless. He had been sitting for three consecutive hours, and his back was stiff, but he didn't dare stand up for fear of missing even the slightest change.
"Teacher Chen," Li Xiao whispered, "go and rest for a while; I'll keep an eye on things."
Chen Xueming shook his head. "I can't sleep."
Li Xiao wanted to say something more, but Lin Mo pushed the door open and entered.
He was carrying three bowls of freshly cooked noodles, steaming hot. Placing the noodles on the table, he glanced at the screen. "How's the progress?"
Li Xiao said, "Sixty-three thousand. It's expected to finish by ten in the morning."
Lin Mo nodded and looked at Chen Xueming again. Chen Xueming's complexion was slightly better than it had been in the early morning, but his eyes were still bloodshot, and he was as tense as a string stretched to its limit.
Lin Mo sat down beside him and pushed the noodles over. "Eat something first."
Chen Xueming took the bowl and mechanically picked up a few noodles to put in his mouth, but his eyes never left the screen.
Lin Mo looked at him and suddenly said, "Teacher Chen, give me a copy of your raw data."
Chen Xueming was taken aback. "Raw data? What are you going to do?"
Lin Mo smiled. "My simulation software hasn't been used in a long while. Maybe it can help you run some tests."
Chen Xueming hesitated for a moment, then nodded, pulling up a data package and sending it to Lin Mo's terminal.
Lin Mo opened his computer and logged into the "System" interface that only he could use. He input the problems Chen Xueming was facing—high-power plasma oscillation, 100 Hz frequency, 0.5 mm amplitude, non-linear magnetic field response...
The system began its calculations.
On the screen, lines of code scrolled rapidly, so fast they were a blur.
Chen Xueming couldn't help but lean over to take a look. "What software is this? I've never seen it before."
Lin Mo remained calm. "I wrote it myself specifically for running extreme operating conditions. It's still in the testing phase, so I don't use it much."
Chen Xueming stared at the screen for a few seconds, understood nothing, and pulled back.
Ten minutes later, the system popped up the results.
Lin Mo's gaze fell on the few lines of red conclusions:
"Problem Diagnosis: Incorrect boundary condition settings."
"Parameter ID: #B-1073"
"Current Value: 0.82"
"Suggested Value: 0.67"
"Description: Boundary parameters exceed the stability domain, causing the algorithm to diverge. Oscillation can be eliminated after correction."
Lin Mo stared at that line of text and was silent for a few seconds.
Then he stood up, walked to Chen Xueming's side, and pointed to a spot on the screen:
"Teacher Chen, look at this parameter."
Chen Xueming leaned in, took a look, and frowned. "#B-1073? This is a boundary condition; I set it to 0.82. Is there a problem?"
Lin Mo shook his head. "What you set is correct, but this parameter has a coupling relationship with another one." He pulled up the analysis report provided by the system. "Look, when the power exceeds 80%, this boundary condition and the non-linear magnetic field coefficient will resonate, causing the algorithm to diverge."
Chen Xueming's eyes widened.
He stared at those few lines of text, reading them three times over, then suddenly turned to his computer and pulled up the detailed data for that parameter.
One minute.
Two minutes.
Three minutes.
He suddenly slammed the table hard:
"Yes! That's it! How could I not have thought of that!"
Li Xiao was startled and almost jumped out of her chair.
Chen Xueming stood up and paced back and forth in the server room, muttering to himself, "Boundary conditions, non-linear coupling, resonance... Why didn't I think of it? I thought this parameter was independent and never imagined it would be coupled with anything else..."
He walked back to Lin Mo and grabbed his shoulders:
"President Lin, this software of yours is miraculous!"
Lin Mo felt the pain from the grip, but he only gave a faint smile:
"The software is just a tool; the key is that you realized it."
Chen Xueming shook his head, his eyes reddening slightly again:
"No, I was wrong. I was being stubborn and kept thinking it was a hardware issue, never considering that the boundary condition could be at fault. If it weren't for your reminder..."
He couldn't go on.
Lin Mo patted his hand:
"Alright, now that the problem is found, hurry up and fix it."
Chen Xueming nodded vigorously and turned back to his computer.
At seven in the morning, Chen Xueming recalibrated the boundary parameters.
He adjusted #B-1073 from 0.82 to 0.67 and then ran the high-power simulation again.
On the screen, the plasma state curve slowly unfolded. The power rose to 80%, 85%, 90%...
The oscillation curve that had kept him awake all night had vanished.
In its place was a straight line so smooth it made one want to cry.
Chen Xueming stared at that straight line, stunned for a full ten seconds.
Then he suddenly stood up and gave Lin Mo a big hug:
"Old Lin! It's a success!"
Lin Mo was hugged so tightly he could barely breathe, and he laughed while patting Chen's back. "Alright, alright, mind your image."
Chen Xueming let go of him and went to hug Li Xiao. Li Xiao couldn't dodge in time and was caught in a full hug, her face turning red.
"Teacher Chen, please calm down..."
Chen Xueming laughed loudly, his voice filled with a long-suppressed release:
"I can't calm down! I've been waiting for this curve for three days!"
That morning, Chen Xueming finally went to sleep.
Lin Mo personally walked him to the dormitory door and watched him lie down and tuck himself in before gently closing the door and leaving.
Walking out of the dormitory building, the sunlight made him squint.
In the morning in the Gobi Desert, the sky was transparently blue, and the tokamak-3 in the distance sparkled in the sunlight.
Li Xiao followed behind him and suddenly said:
"President Lin, that software of yours... is really impressive."
Lin Mo paused for a moment, then said nonchalantly:
"It's just a tool. The key is that Teacher Chen was willing to accept help."
Li Xiao nodded thoughtfully.
Lin Mo looked at her and suddenly asked:
"Aren't you curious about how that software was written?"
Li Xiao shook her head. "I am curious, but if you don't say, I won't ask. Whenever you want to talk about it, I'll be listening."
Lin Mo was taken aback, then smiled:
"Xiao Xiao, you're getting better and better with your words."
Li Xiao smiled too. "I learned it from you."
The two of them walked back to the control room side by side.
Behind them, the wind of the Gobi Desert blew, kicking up fine sand, but today's breeze seemed exceptionally gentle.
