186: Chapter 186 What kind of man?
Rain poured down in torrents.
The rain was getting heavier.
Through the window, under the rapidly flowing curtain of water, Fang Xun could no longer see the situation outside clearly.
He could only hear the petite young girl outside still fighting to the death with those Remnant Beasts.
Buzz—
The motor whirred, and the car window rolled down.
Wind and rain immediately surged into the car, bringing a deep chill.
Now, Fang Xun could see clearly.
It was a young girl wearing a T-shirt and a short skirt.
She wasn't wearing any equipment; she looked like a little girl who had just come out to shop after school.
Her only weapon was the Alchemy Long Saber in her hand.
Fang Xun wasn't sure if these clothes were the Spiritual Raiment from her Psionic Power: Bloom.
But it didn't look like it.
Hmm, she was wearing safety shorts; her sense of protection was actually quite good.
Fortunately, the Remnant Beasts had no brains and didn't know how to attack vital spots to force a defense.
Otherwise, if the girl had been any more distracted, she probably wouldn't have been able to hold on long ago.
But now, she was also reaching her limit.
It was only then that Fang Xun realized those humanoid Remnant Beasts only had a slightly similar posture.
Looking closely, they were more like mantises.
Sharp claws slashed across the girl's body, immediately leaving behind a trail of blood.
The blood was washed away by the rain, leaving only long, hideous wounds.
And there were already over a dozen such wounds on her body.
Fang Xun took a deep breath.
He punched the seat hard.
But his fist was weak, and even the seat remained unharmed.
But the little girl clearly couldn't hold out much longer.
Fang Xun watched this and clenched his fists tightly.
"Friendship, conviction, sisters... maybe I can add one more thing."
With a click, Fang Xun unlocked the car door.
As he pushed the door open, Fang Xun said, "The hymn of humanity is the hymn of courage."
He stepped out of the car and stood in the wind and rain.
"Come on! deep blue!!!!!!!!"
Just then, a severed arm of a Remnant Beast slammed into Fang Xun, knocking him back into the car.
"Get inside and hide! Are you stupid?!"
Without a trace of psionic energy on him, coming out was just seeking death. The girl directly sent Fang Xun back inside.
But with that one movement, a gap appeared in the girl's defense.
A tail, like a lashing thorn, whipped across her back, shredding her T-shirt and leaving it hanging loosely like a rag against her chest.
She was sent rolling several times on the ground before propping herself up with the Alchemy Long Saber, guarding the front of the car.
Her mangled back was exposed right before Fang Xun's eyes.
The girl's body should have been smooth, fair, and tender.
But now, it was like a mass of mangled flesh, with even her spine exposed.
Fang Xun froze.
The girl's voice drifted over softly.
"Hide well. To these beasts, I'm the tastiest thing."
"They'll only come for you after they're done eating me."
"A Special Affairs Bureau squad is deciphering the Mental Barrier here based on my location."
"In five minutes at most, they'll be able to get in and save you."
"If I'm lucky, there might be enough of me left to be sent back to see my dad."
"Hey."
Fang Xun blinked hard, holding something back.
"Saying something like that in this situation... I'm really going to cry."
Fang Xun wiped the rainwater off his face.
"Do you see that panel? It's finally willing to come out."
The girl heard the man in the car, but as for some panel, she just assumed he was so scared he was talking nonsense.
Those things pressed in again; the girl propped herself up and held her saber in front of her.
Fang Xun paused and then said:
"Thank you for your courage. It helped me find something I'd lost."
He crushed the severed arm on him and moved down from the back seat.
"Don't move. You've lost too much blood. Your body is turning pale."
"Go back, you idiot."
The girl took a stance, but after that heavy blow, even maintaining it was a struggle.
But she held her ground, intending to deter those suicidal things for as long as possible.
Every extra second meant there might be a few more pieces of her left when she was sent back.
"You're tired. Rest for a bit."
Fang Xun gently patted the girl's shoulder and eased her stiff body into the back seat of the car.
Although the seat was also soaked with rain, having a place to sit was better than nothing.
"What are you doing?"
The girl struggled at first, but she suddenly felt that the person before her was different from before.
"Doing... what needs to be done."
Fang Xun stood in the rain, watching the things tentatively pressing in.
He didn't hesitate.
"The 13,697th punch. Die!"
Step forward, punch.
The punch stirred the wind and rain. Fang Xun walked through the rain and smashed his fist into the nearest bat-like Remnant Beast.
With one punch, the force rippled through the Remnant Beast's entire body, causing it to explode instantly. Flesh and blood scattered, only to be washed away by the torrential rain.
"The 13,698th punch! Die!"
Another punch; just the wind from it left them either dead or wounded.
"The 13,699th punch. Break!"
Fang Xun looked at the dense swarm of Remnant Beasts before him and threw a heavy punch.
Under this punch, more than half of the Remnant Beasts were instantly crushed.
He had reclaimed his conviction and marked these Remnant Beasts for their funeral.
Inside the car, the girl lay weakly on the seat.
The wounds on her back made it impossible for her to lie flat.
Watching the man before her smash those Remnant Beasts to pieces punch by punch, she finally closed her eyes.
She could no longer hold on.
...
...
"Yunyun, wake up. Wake up."
Finally, after some time had passed, the girl was shaken awake.
She opened her eyes; she was now in a Special Affairs Bureau rescue vehicle.
Her body was covered in bandages, and a bag of medicine hung from each of her wrists.
I'm not going to die, the girl thought to herself.
She had great faith in the Special Affairs Bureau's technology.
Then, that voice spoke again.
"Oh my god, thank heaven."
"Yunyun, you're alive."
"Thank goodness for the Monkey Hair your dad gave you; otherwise, you'd really be dead this time, Yunyun."
"Was it... the Great Senior who saved me?"
Wei Yunyun breathed a sigh of relief.
Just as her father had told her, the Great Senior would protect every son and daughter of Dongcheng City.
Even though she was in the Imperial Capital now, was she still under the Great Senior's protection?
"Hey, hey, hey, Yunyun."
"It was me! I'm the one who saved you!"
"If I hadn't arrived so quickly, you'd be dead!"
"Even the Great Senior's hair wouldn't have helped!"
Beside Wei Yunyun, a girl in a white coat spoke huffily.
Her friend had practically been brainwashed by her father, being so superstitious about that Great Senior.
Wasn't this just a personality cult?!
That's just not right!
"Can't I just say it?" Wei Yunyun said with a smile. "Anyway, it's not like I can go back to Dongcheng."
"For now. It's not that you can't; it's just that you aren't going back for the time being," the girl in the white coat reminded her.
"Things are just busy. Once everything stabilizes, you can go back."
"Okay." Wei Yunyun nodded.
"Yunyun, you're really amazing. You killed so many of them. How come I never realized you were this strong before?"
"Killed them all?"
"Yeah, you killed so many that the Disaster Beast didn't even dare to show its face and just ran away."
"It was probably a Remnant Beast-enhanced type of Disaster Beast."
"The kind where the main body is relatively weak."
"Then... where is that guy? Was he hurt?"
"What guy? Oh, the driver? He's fine."
"His legs just fell asleep from crouching."
