27: The first person to squeeze NPCs dry

"What? You don't want the treasure of the gods anymore?"

The Evil God Emissary was stunned; he couldn't understand why the Adventurer before him would rather kill him than let him go to obtain information about the Treasure Trove.

"If you want me to let you go, just information isn't enough."

Lin Yue guessed that since the Evil God Emissary could disguise himself as the Village Chief to issue quests, he must have plenty of good items on him.

"What do you want?"

The Evil God Emissary also understood Lin Yue's meaning; this Adventurer clearly wanted to squeeze some benefits out of him.

"Let me tell you, I am an Evil God Emissary, and you are just a lowly Adventurer..."

Boom!

Before he could even finish his sentence, a Fireball smashed into the Evil God Emissary's mouth, making him cry out in pain.

"Damn it, you're practically a demon."

The Evil God Emissary's eyes darkened, his gaze toward Lin Yue filled with hatred.

Being called a demon by an emissary of an Evil God, Lin Yue only found it amusing.

"If you want to save your life, talk less nonsense and show some sincerity."

The Evil God Emissary bared his teeth, his eyes darting around. "Fine, I'll give it to you, but you must promise to let me go."

Lin Yue gave an almost imperceptible nod.

"Ding! You have received a quest issued by the Evil God Emissary."

"Quest Requirement: Spare the Evil God Emissary."

"Quest Reward: 50 free attribute points."

"Quest Penalty: None."

"Decline!"

Lin Yue frowned. It was a hundred attribute points before; was he trying to brush him off with fifty points like a beggar now?

"I see you don't value your life. Fine, I'll send you on your way."

A brilliant red light flared from the staff, as if countless Fireballs would bombard the Evil God Emissary in the next moment.

"Don't! White Emperor, I'll give it to you, I'll give you everything!"

The Evil God Emissary's eyes nearly bulged out of his head as he immediately changed the quest reward.

"Ding! Quest has been updated."

"Quest Reward: 100 free attribute points."

That's more like it. Lin Yue nodded in satisfaction; it made his spending of a hundred free attribute points on Spell Accuracy worthwhile.

These hundred free attribute points exactly made up for his previous loss.

Just as he was about to accept, he caught a glimpse of the Evil God Emissary and noticed his shifty, calculating expression.

No, this guy is still holding something back.

Having keenly spotted the other's subtle movements, Lin Yue was in no hurry to accept the quest. Instead, he stared at him quietly and said flatly, "Not enough!"

"What now, White Emperor? You can't be dishonest; I've already arranged the quest reward."

Seeing that White Emperor wouldn't accept the quest, the Evil God Emissary was as anxious as an ant on a hot pan, pacing so hard the floorboards began to crack.

"I suggest you take your life seriously; you only have one."

Lin Yue said coldly. In the next second, a dozen Fireballs crashed down, chaotic flames engulfing the Evil God Emissary, while continuous bolts of Lightning made him shudder all over.

In just a few seconds, the Evil God Emissary, who previously had only a third of his health left, was beaten to a pulp, his HP dropping below ten percent.

"Demon! You are more vicious than the Demon Gods of Hell! I curse you!"

"Ah... Lord White Emperor, I was wrong! I won't do it again!"

The Evil God Emissary knelt on the ground, begging for mercy. He couldn't fight or run; he was like meat on a chopping block, at White Emperor's mercy.

"Ding! Quest has been updated."

"Quest Reward: 100 free attribute points, special skill Eye of Insight."

The corners of Lin Yue's mouth curled up. The guy really was hiding something good; one bluff was all it took for him to spill everything.

"Is that really it? You're not still hiding something, are you?"

To ensure there were no more hidden rewards, Lin Yue asked cautiously before accepting.

"There's really nothing left!"

The Evil God Emissary's expression was more miserable than if he were crying. Hearing Lin Yue ask for more was like hearing a demon's whisper.

"Even if you kill me now, I can't produce any other rewards."

Seeing that the other man had kowtowed until his forehead bled, Lin Yue figured there was nothing left to squeeze out and reluctantly accepted the quest.

White Emperor finally accepted the quest, and the Evil God Emissary breathed a sigh of relief. He stood up shakily and walked toward the door; with the protection of the System's quest rules, he wasn't afraid of Lin Yue going back on his word.

"Wait. Who said you could leave?"

Lin Yue's words made the Evil God Emissary feel as if he had fallen into an ice cellar.

"Lord White Emperor, what do you mean? I have already given you the quest. If you don't let me go, you won't be able to get the rewards."

"I'm asking you, where is the Village Chief?"

The Evil God Emissary slapped his forehead, finally remembering he had promised to tell Lin Yue the Village Chief's location.

"Follow me."

The Evil God Emissary went to the bedroom and moved a vase. Immediately after, the wall began to shift slowly, revealing a secret room with the Village Chief inside.

Lin Yue walked up to the Village Chief, and after confirming he was still alive, untied him.

"Adventurer White Emperor, thank you for saving me."

The Village Chief stood up, and Lin Yue casually winked at him.

At that moment, the Village Chief saw the Evil God Emissary behind Lin Yue, and his expression changed drastically.

"Adventurer White Emperor, it was this lackey of the Evil God who ambushed me and locked me in the secret room. Join me in killing him; we cannot let him leave to harm the other villagers."

"You old geezer, stop talking nonsense! I am an emissary of the Evil God, not a lackey."

The Evil God Emissary argued his point, snorting disdainfully at the Village Chief's words.

Lin Yue shook his head and walked in front of the Village Chief, blocking the Evil God Emissary with his back.

"I promised to let him leave, so I cannot help you."

As he spoke, Lin Yue winked frantically, giving a strong hint.

The Village Chief seemed to understand something and simply stopped talking.

Lin Yue turned around to face the Evil God Emissary, planted his staff on the ground, and said casually, "I'm letting you go now. You may leave."

Having said that, Lin Yue ignored the Evil God Emissary, treating him as if he were air.

"Then... I'm leaving?"

The Evil God Emissary was suspicious, but as he walked toward the door and saw that Lin Yue made no move, he finally felt relieved.

His caution was warranted; he truly couldn't guess whether Lin Yue would actually let him go.

As the Evil God Emissary reached the door, a notification appeared for Lin Yue that the quest was complete.

"Ding! You have completed the quest. Reward: free attribute points +100, Eye of Insight +1."

"Now! Do it, Village Chief!"

As soon as the words left his mouth, the Village Chief lunged at the Evil God Emissary, a Longsword appearing out of thin air in his hand, which he thrust into the emissary's back with Lightning speed.

"Gah!"

A mouthful of dark purple blood sprayed from the Evil God Emissary's mouth.

He spun around abruptly, staring fixedly at Lin Yue.

"You... you're dishonest!"

"Who said that? I did spare you, but the Village Chief didn't want to. What does that have to do with me?"

Lin Yue's words left the Evil God Emissary in disbelief.

"Adventurers... truly are all cunning!"

With a roar of resentment, the Evil God Emissary's remaining health was instantly depleted by the Village Chief's full-power strike. The Black Flames covering his body vanished, and he turned to ash in the air.
