147: We're not done yet, you might be.

Lei Zhen walked in front, and Zhu Xiaojun followed behind holding the cigarettes. The two men went straight to the entrance of the mail room.

The door was open, but Lei Zhen still politely knocked twice on the door frame.

"Master, I'm back."

But there was no movement inside.

Could Master not be here?

Lei Zhen didn't think much of it and stepped right in. He saw Zheng Wenchang leaning back in his chair, absorbed in reading a newspaper.

Lei Zhen stepped forward and chuckled, "Master, reading the paper? You're really amazing; you can even read it upside down."

Zheng Wenchang was immediately startled. Only then did he notice he was genuinely holding it upside down. He quickly flipped the newspaper over, then glanced at Lei Zhen and said, "I've stressed this many times: I never planned on taking disciples in this life, and I am not your master."

Lei Zhen didn't mind at all. "It's fine. You don't have to regard me as your disciple; it's enough that I regard you as my master."

Zheng Wenchang was rendered speechless by this remark. He glared at Lei Zhen. "Are you trying to act like a scoundrel with me, kid?"

Lei Zhen continued to smile apologetically. "Master, the Director assigned you to be my master. Even if you don't acknowledge me, I can't not acknowledge you. Oh, right, I also brought you back a grand-disciple."

After speaking, Lei Zhen pulled Zhu Xiaojun to his side. "His name is Zhu Xiaojun, and he's my newly accepted disciple. Brother Jun, quickly salute your Grandmaster."

Zhu Xiaojun was also very sensible. He immediately stood at attention and raised his hand. "Hello, Grandmaster. My name is Zhu Xiaojun, and I am Officer Lei's new disciple. I hope Grandmaster will guide me a lot in the future."

Zheng Wenchang was dumbfounded. What was with all this 'brother,' 'disciple,' and 'Grandmaster'? Why were the relationships so messy?

After Zhu Xiaojun finished speaking, he respectfully placed the two cartons of [Supreme 95] he was holding onto the table in front of Zheng Wenchang.

"This is a gift Master brought back for you. Please accept it, Grandmaster."

Zheng Wenchang glanced at them, his face darkening instead of brightening. "What is the meaning of this? Are you trying to bribe me?"

Lei Zhen quickly explained, "Master, you misunderstand. Director Zeng gave these to me before he left. I'm not used to smoking these cigarettes, so I specifically passed them on to you."

He had expected Zheng Wenchang, being an old smoker, to accept them. Unexpectedly, Zheng Wenchang didn't even look and swept the cigarettes away with a wave of his hand. Fortunately, Zhu Xiaojun reacted quickly and caught them.

"Don't try this trick on me. Do you think this will buy me off?" Zheng Wenchang was clearly determined not to take a disciple. "Lei Zhen, who do you take me for?"

Zhu Xiaojun quickly said, "Grandmaster, these are the special edition [Supreme 95]! They are the best of the best cigarettes, unavailable on the market. Even if you don't want them, please don't throw them!"

Zheng Wenchang was a true smoker, and hearing 'Supreme 95' stunned him.

Many people thought these cigarettes were just a luxury item to show status, but they didn't know how good they tasted to a true smoker.

The first time Zheng Wenchang received a third-class merit and was personally received by the Bureau Chief, he smoked one stick in the Chief's office. It was no exaggeration to say that after smoking it, the fragrance lingered in his mouth and the aftertaste was long-lasting. Even now, Zheng Wenchang occasionally recalled it with longing.

"What did you say? These are Supreme 95?" The usually composed Zheng Wenchang started to lose his composure, staring intently at the cigarettes in Zhu Xiaojun's arms, the greed on his face impossible to hide.

Zhu Xiaojun held out his hand. "See for yourself. Genuine Supreme 95, no fakes. Master didn't lie to you; Director Zeng really gave these to him."

Zheng Wenchang took a closer look and saw that they truly were the legendary Supreme 95!

An audible 'gulp' sound came from his throat right then and there, which even Lei Zhen and Zhu Xiaojun heard.

But Zheng Wenchang still grit his teeth and refused. "Don't you know smoking is harmful to your health? You're giving me cigarettes—do you want me to die sooner? You don't even know how to give a gift and you want to be my disciple? Get out, get out, get out! Both of you, roll as far away as possible. Don't ever come to my office again."

Just like that, Lei Zhen and Zhu Xiaojun were forcibly chased out by Zheng Wenchang.

Zheng Wenchang slammed the door shut with a bang.

Lei Zhen was still somewhat persistent. "Master, just tell me what you like, and I'll go buy it for you immediately!"

The only reply he got was one word—"Scram!"

Having no choice, the two men could only walk back dejectedly.

As Zhu Xiaojun walked, he curled his lips. "What is that old man thinking? He was clearly drooling just now, and his eyes were glued to them, yet he still stubbornly refused?"

"Hey, you kid." Lei Zhen said, "Don't talk about your Grandmaster like that in the future. 'Old man'? Is 'old man' what you should call him?"

Zhu Xiaojun was stunned and a little confused. He didn't understand why someone as capable as Lei Zhen would shamelessly try to find an old guy in the mail room to be his master.

"Sorry, Master, I was wrong." Zhu Xiaojun quickly apologized. "I just don't understand why someone as outstanding as you insists on having him as your master."

Only then did Lei Zhen say, "That's because your Grandmaster showed me great kindness."

So, Lei Zhen told Zhu Xiaojun the story of how, after being rescued from human traffickers years ago, he received careful attention and care at Zheng Wenchang's home.

Zhu Xiaojun finally understood after hearing the story. It turned out Lei Zhen was such a person who remembered kindness and repaid it.

"I understand." Zhu Xiaojun said, "Master, don't worry. Leave the Grandmaster's matter to me. I have thick skin. I'll go beg him every day until he accepts you. If he still refuses, I won't even let him poop in peace!"

Lei Zhen laughed heartily. "Brother Jun, you said that yourself. I'll wait for your good news."

Just then, Lei Zhen suddenly saw a middle-aged woman walking toward him.

The woman walked up to Lei Zhen and asked, "Young comrade, excuse me, which office does Zheng Wenchang work in?"

Lei Zhen paused. Judging by the woman's age, could she be his Master's wife?

"My master is in the mail room across the hall." Lei Zhen pointed. "May I ask who you are?"

"My name is Li Huifang, I'm his wife." The woman finished speaking and looked at Lei Zhen. "You... you said you are his disciple?"

"Oh my, you really are Master's wife." Lei Zhen's eyes immediately lit up. "Hello, Master's wife. My name is Lei Zhen, and I'm Master's new disciple. I just came from seeing Master. Come, come, I'll take you there."

Zhu Xiaojun also stepped up and bowed. "Hello, Grandmaster's wife. I am Lei Zhen's disciple. My name is Zhu Xiaojun."

Li Huifang was taken aback. "I've never heard Old Zheng mention taking a disciple. How do you already have a grand-disciple?"

Lei Zhen grinned. "Buy one, get one free!"

The two men led Li Huifang toward the mail room. "By the way, Master's wife, why are you looking for Master?"

Li Huifang's face immediately darkened. "Of course, I'm here to settle accounts with that old coot."

"Ah?!"

Lei Zhen and Zhu Xiaojun exchanged glances, not daring to ask further questions.

Arriving at the mail room entrance, Lei Zhen knocked on the door again.

As soon as his fingers left the door panel, Zheng Wenchang's impatient voice came from inside: "Are you two done yet?"

Lei Zhen shouted, "Master, we're not done, but you might be done for! Master's wife is here for you!"
