234: Chapter 234 Are all the police in Qinghe this arrogant?

Qinghe is located in the eastern suburbs of Nanwan District. It was formerly known as Qinghe Town, but has since been incorporated into the main city and renamed Qinghe Sub-district. It takes about half an hour to drive from the Nanwan District Police Bureau to the Qinghe Police Station.

Zhao Zhengping had always been known for his integrity and impartiality within the police force, and he was a leader with an iron fist.

From his first day on the force, he had never attended any private banquets; he rarely even attended his own relatives' birthdays or weddings.

Furthermore, Zhao Zhengping was very strict with his children's education.

Currently, his eldest daughter worked as a forensic pathologist at the Chengdu Police Bureau's Criminal Science Institute, and his younger son was a junior at the police academy, destined to become a member of the police system in the future.

Before being transferred to Jiangcheng, Zhao Zhengping was the police bureau chief of a certain county in Xichuan. After his transfer, he took over the mess left behind by the former chief, yet he adamantly refused to use the Audi A6 assigned to him by the unit. He usually drove his family's BYD to work.

It wasn't that he looked down on luxury brands; rather, the Audi provided by the unit had been Mu Fengchun's former car. Zhao Zhengping detested the 'scent of corruption' it carried, finding his own family car much more comfortable to drive.

Moreover, Zhao Zhengping did not use a driver; he drove himself wherever he went.

So, when he headed to Qinghe, he was driving his ordinary new energy vehicle.

Following Gaode Maps, Zhao Zhengping soon arrived at his destination.

He was surprised to find that the office of the Qinghe Police Station was actually an old building that looked quite aged.

Looking closer, there was even a stone monument at the entrance that read 'Cultural Relic Protection Unit'.

Furthermore, this Police Station had no access control system or elderly gatekeeper; cars could be driven straight inside.

Indeed, Zhao Gang had always practiced the philosophy of 'police and people as one family.' If a citizen parked their car at the station for a day or two, they wouldn't be chased away.

Zhao Zhengping was very satisfied with this. Although he hadn't met Zhao Gang yet, he already had a good first impression of this station's director.

The car entered the small courtyard, and Zhao Zhengping parked in a space on the west side before stepping out of the vehicle.

Suddenly, he saw a black dog rushing toward him, giving him quite a start.

Ade, having once been a Police Dog, was very smart and certainly wouldn't bite people indiscriminately.

Years of dealing with police officers had given him a special ability: he could sense the 'righteous aura' on a person.

So, upon seeing Zhao Zhengping, Ade went up to wag his tail and lick his shoes, leaving Director Zhao a bit bewildered.

Since Ade was being so enthusiastic, Director Zhao simply crouched down and patted the dog's head.

“Are you raised here in the yard? What's your name?”

Ade obviously couldn't answer, but a young man's voice came from behind Director Zhao.

“Is this car yours?”

Zhao Zhengping tilted his head and saw a young officer in a police uniform.

“I'm asking you, is this car yours?”

“Yes,” Zhao Zhengping replied, continuing to pet Ade. He asked in return, “Is parking not allowed here?”

Zhou Hang glanced at the car's license plate and noticed it was an out-of-town plate starting with Chuan A.

“You can park here. Are you from Xichuan?” Zhou Hang asked.

“Yes, my hometown is in Xichuan.” As Director Zhao spoke, he turned his head again to size up the young officer before him.

He noticed that this young officer exuded an indescribable 'arrogance' from head to toe.

“You're here because of the Lei Zhen matter, right?” Zhou Hang's tone was cold as always.

Zhao Zhengping paused, thinking to himself, 'I didn't say I was here to see Lei Zhen. Did my secretary tell Zhao Gang?'

But clearly, Zhou Hang's bossy manner of speaking made him a bit uncomfortable.

‘I, a dignified district bureau chief, have come down for an inspection, and this is your attitude?’

‘Are the officers in Qinghe all this cold and arrogant toward their superiors?’

‘Do they think they're so great just because they got a collective second-class merit?’

“Something like that.” Zhao Zhengping didn't lose his temper and continued petting the dog. “Did Director Zhao arrange for you to meet me?”

“Yes.” Zhou Hang was also a bit annoyed by the other's attitude, thinking, 'You're here to turn yourself in, yet you're acting like some damn leader. What's there to be so cocky about?'

“Director Zhao arranged for me to receive you. Hurry up and stand up, stop petting him. Do you know who Ade is? Is he someone you can just pet whenever you want?”

Zhao Zhengping stood up. “Who is he? Isn't he just a dog?”

Zhou Hang's face was full of disdain. “Just a dog? Ade is a retired Police Dog who has earned a third-class merit. Is he someone a person like you can just pet as you please?”

“A person like me? What kind of person am I?” This sentence riled Zhao Zhengping up. “Zhao Gang told you to receive me, and this is how you do it?”

“Oho, you're getting aggressive with me now? Putting on official airs?” Zhou Hang also got angry, thinking, 'You're here to surrender, yet you dare to be unruly at the Police Station!!'

“You think this is still your home? Look closely, this is the Qinghe Police Station. Don't think that just because you came voluntarily, I'll give you a warm welcome!”

“You...” Zhao Zhengping was trembling with rage. “Are all of you at the Qinghe Police Station this arrogant now?”

“What if I am?” Zhou Hang shouted back. “It's already good enough that I'm willing to receive you. Now follow me.”

After saying that, Zhou Hang walked straight toward the main entrance.

Zhao Zhengping was stunned. He thought, 'I'm a bureau chief, your direct superior, and this is your attitude?'

‘Just because of one Lei Zhen, everyone in the Qinghe Police Station has become this conceited?’

However, since he was a newcomer, he suppressed his anger and followed Zhou Hang forward.

Just as they reached the entrance, Zhou Hang ran into his cousin, Zhou Sheng.

Seeing a middle-aged man following his cousin, Zhou Sheng immediately asked, “Is he here?”

Zhou Hang pointed to Zhao Zhengping behind him.

Zhou Sheng sized him up. Seeing the man's sour expression, he immediately stepped forward and said, “What's with that? You came here on your own, yet you look all reluctant! It's not like we forced you, so why are you giving us that look?”

Zhao Zhengping was stunned again. He had thought the young officer's attitude was an isolated case, but now he realized the police here were all acting incredibly arrogant.

“I'm giving you a look?” Zhao Zhengping was truly angry now. “Is this how Zhao Gang told you to receive me?”

“Zhao Gang?” Zhou Sheng also got angry. “Is 'Zhao Gang' a name you're allowed to call? Speak, what's your name?”

Zhao Zhengping completely lost it. “I am a man of my word and I don't hide my identity. My name is Zhao Zhengping. Have your director come see me immediately.”

“Heh, you even share a surname with our director? Zhao Zhengping?” Zhou Sheng's face was full of disgust. “An old pervert like you dares to be arrogant at the Police Station? Who do you think you are?”

“Presumptuous! How dare you speak like that.” Zhao Zhengping was so angry his head nearly exploded. “Do you know who I am? You dare talk to me like that?”

“Oho, quite the temper!” Zhou Sheng didn't indulge him. “What, are you a relative of Director Zhao?”

By now, Zhao Zhengping's liver was trembling with rage. He had been a bureau chief for over a decade and had never encountered such defiant subordinates.

“Fine, so this is how Zhao Gang told you to receive me? Just because Qinghe got a collective second-class merit, all of your tails are wagging in the sky, aren't they?”

Zhou Hang couldn't stand it either. After all, they had never seen someone coming to turn themselves in who was so full of complaints.

“What? You're unwilling? Director Zhao told me to receive you. What, do we need to carry you in on a palanquin and serve you fine food and drink? You really think highly of yourself, don't you?”

“You little brat! Fine, I'm not going in. I'm leaving right now!! Tell your director to come to my office and find me himself!!”

After saying that, Zhao Zhengping turned around to leave.

However, Zhou Hang stepped forward and grabbed him.

“You're already here, and you want to leave? You must be crazy!!”

Zhao Zhengping was even more dumbfounded. 'I, a dignified police bureau chief, come here only to be insulted and harassed, and now I'm not even allowed to leave?'

‘Is this still a Police Station? This is a damn bandit's den!’

“What are you doing?” Zhao Zhengping roared. “Let go of me! I'm warning you, let go of me immediately!”

Seeing that the man was trying to run, Zhou Sheng simply pulled out the handcuffs from his pocket and with a 'click', he locked them onto Zhao Zhengping.

“You still want to run? Come on, get to the interrogation room with me!!”
