61: Chapter 61. Be prepared, stay focused, don't embarrass yourself!
Two people rode their swords, while one rode a bench, landing on a mountain peak at the outermost periphery of the Inner Sect. Su Yi stared blankly at the dilapidated thatched cottage before him.
The thatched cottage in front of him had walls cobbled together from wooden planks, with thatch strewn haphazardly on top, looking so tattered that it seemed ready to collapse at any moment.
There were seven or eight such thatched cottages here, and two or three of them had already collapsed and fallen into disrepair, no longer qualifying as dwellings.
Compared to the square, proper courtyards back in the Outer Sect, these thatched cottages weren't even as good as the latrines of the Outer Sect.
"Wait, this is where Inner Sect Disciples live?"
"I thought I'd been exiled by the Sect!"
Senior Brother Chen Feng looked at the thatched cottage before him and said with a sigh, "I didn't expect this; six years have passed, and it hasn't changed a bit!"
After sighing, Senior Brother Chen Feng looked at Su Yi and the other, feeling puzzled in his heart.
Why did Prodigies like Su Yi and his companion have to go through the same procedures as ordinary Inner Sect Disciples?
Logically speaking, shouldn't someone like Junior Brother Su be taken directly as a Personal Disciple by the Sect Leader?
But what was bizarre was that when the Peak-Managing Elder, who had crashed into a mountain while sword-flying after drinking, found him all bruised and battered and told him to go guide Su Yi and his companion, he insisted everything follow normal procedures.
This was completely burying Junior Brother Su's talent!
Although he thought this, Senior Brother Chen Feng did not refute the Elder's words. Looking at the bruised and grimacing Elder, he figured the Sect Leader and the others must have their own profound reasons, right?
Of course, there was also the realization that one absolutely must not fly a sword after drinking!
"Oh? Senior Brother lived here too?" Su Yi twitched the corner of his mouth and asked curiously, interrupting Senior Brother Chen Feng's contemplation.
"When I first entered the Inner Sect, I lived here too. In the blink of an eye, six or seven years have already passed!" Senior Brother Chen Feng came back to his senses and answered with a smile.
Seeming to notice that Su Yi was somewhat disgusted by the thatched cottage, Senior Brother Chen Feng said sternly, "We cultivators do not care about lodging and travel; harsh environments can instead temper one's Dao Heart."
Su Yi asked with an expression of disbelief, "Then where does Senior Brother live now?"
Senior Brother Chen Feng answered honestly, "I now live alone on an immortal mountain near Luoxia Peak, in a two-courtyard compound!"
"??? No, man, I'm tempering my Dao Heart by living in a thatched cottage, and you're tempering your Dao Heart by living in a courtyard compound?"
Seeing the dissatisfied expressions on Su Yi and Gu Wanquan, Senior Brother Chen Feng smiled mysteriously and said, "Are the two Junior Brothers wondering why there is such a big difference in our living conditions?"
No kidding. Why don't you give up that courtyard compound then?
Senior Brother Chen Feng immediately followed up, "It is not that I am intentionally making things difficult for you two Junior Brothers, but it has to do with the Inner Sect regulations of the Luoxia Immortal Sect!"
The Luoxia Immortal Sect has a total of 751 Inner Sect Disciples, divided into three stages.
Those from the first to third level of the Foundation Establishment Stage live on the outermost periphery of the Inner Sect, while those from the fourth to sixth level live on the inner side of the outer periphery.
Those from the seventh to ninth level of the Foundation Establishment Stage live in the area closest to the main peak, Luoxia Peak.
Only the Sect Leader, Elders, and dozens of Personal Disciples live on the main peak.
Disciples who have just entered the Inner Sect are naturally arranged on the outermost mountain peaks, which is exactly where Su Yi is standing right now.
"Do you Junior Brothers want to live in a better place?" Senior Brother Chen Feng asked mysteriously.
"Does Senior Brother have a way?" Su Yi immediately asked.
Senior Brother Chen Feng shook his head and said, "There is no 'way' per se, only a method, which is to constantly challenge other Inner Sect Disciples. Once you win, you can move into the loser's house!"
"This is also a consideration by the Sect to encourage normal sparring among Disciples!"
Su Yi's eyes lit up. Tell me sooner! I thought I really had to live in this dilapidated thatched cottage!
For Su Yi, if it could be taken by force, then it was naturally meant to be his!
Seeming to notice Su Yi's obsession with housing, Gu Wanquan, who had been silent behind him, stood in front of Senior Brother Chen Feng and said with a gentle smile, "Please draw your sword, Senior Brother!"
"???" Senior Brother Chen Feng, looking completely bewildered, stared at Gu Wanquan, whose right hand was already gripping his sword hilt.
No, man, you just reached the Foundation Establishment Stage, and you're already planning to challenge me?
Is it really worth it just for a house?
Thinking of the astonishing sword-drawing technique Gu Wanquan used when sparring with Su Yi, Senior Brother Chen Feng felt a sudden, inexplicable sense of trepidation.
Gu Wanquan was that strong while in the Qi Refinement Stage; now that he had reached the Foundation Establishment Stage, he might actually be able to pin him down and beat him!
If a ninth-level Foundation Establishment cultivator were pinned down and beaten by a first-level one, wouldn't he be laughed to death if word got out?
Thinking of this, Senior Brother Chen Feng quickly said, "Junior Brother, wait! I would love to have you move in, but according to Sect regulations, those with different cultivation levels can only stay on different mountain peaks. So, even if I wanted to lose to you and give you the house, you wouldn't be able to live there!"
It wasn't that he couldn't win, but that it wasn't possible!
Having escaped a calamity by citing the Sect regulations, Senior Brother Chen Feng let out a long sigh of relief, but then began to silently mourn for the Inner Sect Disciples on the outer periphery.
"Oh? May I ask, Senior Brother, where can Senior Brother Su and I live now?" Gu Wanquan asked, still smiling.
Senior Brother Chen Feng quickly ran through it in his mind and then said, "There are 421 Disciples below the third level of the Foundation Establishment Stage. Each challenge cannot be more than ten rankings higher. I have long since left the outer periphery, so I am not too sure who the opponents ten rankings higher than you are."
"Then please point out which mountain peaks those Senior Brothers live on, and Wanquan will go and ask them one by one!" Gu Wanquan said with a gentle smile.
Senior Brother Chen Feng rolled his eyes in his heart: "Is that asking? You're probably planning to go and single-handedly fight them one by one, aren't you?"
He looked at the eager Gu Wanquan, and Su Yi, who was fanning the flames on the side, muttering, "Wanquan, good job, keep your spirits up, don't lose face!"
Realizing that the two of them really didn't intend to live here today, Senior Brother Chen Feng thought for a moment and said, "Although I don't know who the opponents ten rankings higher than you are, I can find someone to ask!"
After speaking, Senior Brother Chen Feng took a communication stone out of his Storage Pouch. His demeanor changed abruptly, and he shouted into the stone with a hoarse voice, "Dazhuang, where are you? Come to Peak 46, and bring some more people!"
The originally honest and simple Senior Brother Chen Feng's demeanor had suddenly turned into that of a street thug. When he put away the communication stone, he returned to his honest and simple appearance.
"Although I'm no longer in the outer periphery, I still know a few younger brothers. When they arrive, I'll help you ask them!" Senior Brother Chen Feng said with a smile.
The tone didn't sound like it belonged to an Immortal Sect; it sounded like it belonged to a triad.
"Bring some people," "younger brother"βthese street-level terms appearing in a world-renowned Immortal Sect...
...sounded incredibly incongruous no matter how you listened to it.
Su Yi looked at Senior Brother Chen Feng, whose demeanor kept shifting, and suddenly thought of the players who had luckily entered the Inner Sects of various major Immortal Sects before his Transmigration.
"You haven't entered the Inner Sect; even if I told you, you wouldn't understand!"
Between these words that seemed to show a sense of superiority from having 'made it,' there seemed to be other unknown secrets!
