9: Mythical Beast Blood

Lin Xingyu was very fast, and soon caught up with Wang Ledian and the other person.

Seeing Lin Xingyu catch up, the two of them breathed a sigh of relief.

"Holy crap, that was so exciting just now!"

"Haha, you didn't see their expressions when they saw my mech; their faces turned green!"

"So we're already this strong!"

"Yeah, they looked so menacing, I thought they were really powerful? But as soon as we fought, they were dealt with in a few moves!"

Relaxing, the two immediately became excited.

This was their first time fighting Evolvers with real weapons.

And their first battle was a success.

They started to brag and praise each other...

"Do you still want to go for barbecue?"

Seeing the two getting more and more exaggerated, Lin Xingyu couldn't help but interrupt.

"Definitely! I only ate half-full just now!"

"Right, I swore before that after Awakening, I would eat until I was stuffed!"

"Haha, great minds think alike!"

The few of them hit it off and found another barbecue restaurant nearby.

Just as they were enjoying their meal with great relish...

The conversation of the diners next to them drifted into Lin Xingyu's ears.

"Did you hear? Something big happened when Li Shoucai in the South City hatched his spirit seed!"

"It's said he hatched a Thunder Centipede, and in the blink of an eye, it swallowed his family of three."

"That Thunder Centipede swallowed seven people in a row, and even the Steel Body Battle Group was dispatched!"

"Save where you should, spend where you should. Just to save that little bit of money, he hatched a spirit seed at home and ended up losing his whole family."

"Who says it isn't so? That Li Shoucai is usually very stingy, I never thought he'd be so muddled on such a big matter!"

"If you ask me, he deserved it! That Li Shoucai is no good guy."

"Right, that's a black shop, backed by the Blood Wolf Gang, they often swindle people!"

...Hearing their conversation, Lin Xingyu finally understood the whole story.

In this world, there is a risk when hatching spirit seeds from mutant beasts.

Before hatching, there's no way to know what will appear, just like opening a blind box.

If an artifact seed comes out, that's good; you get a piece of equipment directly.

But if a soul seed comes out, it's dangerous.

They will transform into various mutant beasts, and they are extremely aggressive, attacking anyone they see.

In the Early Stage of the apocalypse, many people were killed by the mutant beasts they themselves hatched.

As time passed, human cities designated "hatching zones" specifically for hatching spirit seeds.

Hatching zones have sufficient protective forces to promptly deal with hatched mutant beasts.

Private hatching of spirit seeds is strictly prohibited within the city; it must be done in the hatching zone, though a fee is required.

Li Shoucai was trying to save this money, so he secretly hatched a spirit seed, which resulted in the loss of his entire family's lives.

With Li Shoucai's death, the matter of the "Gene Optimization Potion" was over.

However, there was still something fishy about the loan.

Lin Xingyu didn't plan to repay the loan; he wanted to see who would come to collect it...

The meal was very enjoyable, filled with laughter and chatter, and didn't end until very late.

Wang Chiyao rubbed her bulging little belly and said to Lin Xingyu:

"My dad said to come find him when you have time; he wants to take you out to broaden your horizons."

"Okay, I'll visit Uncle Gang in a couple of days."

Wang Chiyao's adoptive father, Wang Meng, is the leader of the Steel Body Battle Group and usually takes good care of Lin Xingyu.

Wang Meng's spirit seed is [Steel Heart]; when activated, his entire body turns to steel, transforming him into a steel giant.

But due to frequent use of his ability, all his hair had fallen out.

So he always wears a steel helmet.

Over time, everyone called him "Steel Helmet."

Thinking of this, Lin Xingyu subconsciously glanced at Wang Chiyao's beautiful hair.

"My smoky eye makeup isn't wiped clean?"

Wang Chiyao noticed his gaze and asked suspiciously.

"It's very clean, it's fine..."

Lin Xingyu waved his hand, said goodbye to the two, and turned to leave elegantly.

The stars twinkled in the sky, yet they seemed to be merely his backdrop.

Wang Chiyao and Wang Ledian remained in place, looking at each other.

"I just feel like Brother Yu is different today, he's become very free and unrestrained."

"Haha, the most important thing is, Brother Xingyu didn't even speak to Su Yingxue today!"

"He didn't speak to Su Yingxue, why are you so happy?"

"None of your business..."

...Back home, Lin Xingyu eagerly entered his Inner World.

He saw that the previously somewhat empty space was now filled with bottles and jars.

These were today's gains.

Lin Xingyu began to organize them.

"Healing Potion?"

This is good; I'll keep it for when I get injured later.

"Great Strength Pill? And it has side effects?"

This won't do; I'll have to sell it.

"beast luring incense, can attract nearby mutant beasts?"

I need to keep this, but unfortunately, there are only two sticks...

Lin Xingyu checked each item and categorized them.

It must be said that Li Shoucai's death was not unjust.

Half of these were fakes, and some had very strong side effects.

Once someone consumed them, it would lead to very serious consequences.

It's likely this was the reason the original owner was sent away.

It's a pity he didn't find the "Gene Optimization Potion," and he didn't know what the original owner had bought.

He had checked on the spirit net, and there was no such potion at all.

"What is this?"

Lin Xingyu found a box in the corner, containing 5 bottles of scarlet potion.

[Azure Wolf Beast Essence Blood]

[Introduction: Refined from the flesh and blood of an Azure Wolf Beast, it contains a large amount of mutated energy.]

"mutant beast essence blood?"

This stuff is contraband!

Some laboratories specifically use mutant beast essence blood for forbidden experiments.

Many people who failed to Awaken, in order to gain power, took the risk of consuming mutant beast essence blood.

After consumption, their bodies would undergo irreversible mutation.

Although they could gain some of the mutant beast's abilities, both their mind and body would develop problems.

Severe cases could even die on the spot.

These people whose bodies underwent mutation are called Mutated Ones.

They are usually temperamental and quite insane, posing a great danger to society.

Institute 749 in the North City holds many Mutated Ones.

Every year, schools organize students to visit and experience firsthand the dangers of excessively high mutated energy.

With these living examples, students developed good habits of moderation from a young age.

Now that spirit replenishing potions are becoming widespread, most people probably won't take the risk of consuming mutant beast essence blood anymore.

Li Shoucai colluded with the Blood Wolf Gang, and the matter of mutant beast essence blood is likely inseparable from the Blood Wolf Gang.

I wonder what will happen after the World Tree devours the mutant beast essence blood?
