1: Chapter 1 A Good Family's Fortuitous Encounter, A Portal to Another World
Liang Qiming pulled his father, Liang Chengye, into his room, closed the door, and activated a crude soundproofing restriction.
Liang Chengye frowned.
"Qiming, why are you being so secretive? I still need to go patrol the fields."
Liang Qiming's face was flushed, his breathing rapid, and his eyes sparkled. He had transmigrated twenty-eight years ago into this small family. With scarce resources, he had only reached Qi Refining Level Four despite his bitter cultivation.
Seeing no hope for Foundation Establishment, he might be trapped in the spirit fields for the rest of his life. He had long since resigned himself to fate, yet he remained unwilling.
At this moment, he had finally waited for it.
He grabbed his father's arm, his fingers gripping tightly, his voice trembling.
"Father... it's here, it's finally here!"
Liang Chengye became even more puzzled, even worried.
"What's here? Calm down and speak slowly!"
Liang Qiming took a deep breath, forcing himself to calm down. His long-awaited cheat could be summoned with just a thought.
But he still raised both hands, pretending to perform several complex hand seals while chanting under his breath.
With his final phantom gesture, the air in front of him distorted slightly, and a speck of white light appeared, rapidly expanding.
In an instant, an oval portal about seven feet high and three feet wide, its edges flowing with soft white light, floated quietly in the center of the room. The interior of the portal was a hazy blur.
Liang Chengye took a sudden step back, his pupils shrinking.
"This... what is this?!"
Liang Qiming steadied his mind.
"Father, this is a 'divine ability' I just awakened! I don't know its name, but I can sense it through my mind—this portal leads to another world!"
Liang Chengye instantly understood what this meant.
A portal connecting to another world! This could be a massive opportunity for the family to escape its predicament. Immense joy surged through him, and he almost wanted to roar at the sky.
But he immediately suppressed the impulse. His expression changed drastically, and he suddenly covered his own mouth.
Ecstasy and fear intertwined in his eyes as he quickly checked the soundproofing restriction, then lowered his voice.
"Silence! This must never be leaked!"
His hands trembled as he gripped Liang Qiming's shoulders, his voice hoarse.
"Good boy... good boy! Heaven has not abandoned our Liang Clan! Our Liang Family has suffered for too long!"
Liang Chengye calmed down slightly from his excitement and immediately grasped the key issue.
"Qiming, have you been inside? What kind of world is on the other side? Is it dangerous?"
Liang Qiming nodded.
"I've been there, Father. The other side is a dangerous world with different rules from ours. However, the planet where the portal currently opens seems to be just an ordinary Agri-world, primarily growing special crops for trade with the outside. For us, there's room to maneuver."
He added.
"At least for now, no overly powerful individuals or military garrisons have been found on the planet. But you'll understand the overall environment once you go in and see for yourself, Father."
Liang Qiming knew very well.
If he stayed in the Sanyuan Realm, with his aptitude and the family's resources, the hope for Foundation Establishment was slim, and the Golden Core stage was even more out of reach.
He was unwilling to end his days in the Late Qi Refining Stage like his grandfather, pinning his hopes on the next generation.
That world was indeed dangerous, and there were even Chaos Gods. But if he didn't take a risk now, he would never have a chance to rise.
Now that this god-given opportunity was before him, should he give up just because of potential danger?
Liang Qiming had seen works related to Warhammer. He realized that the essence of his soul was different from the creatures of that world; he was not bound to the Warp.
This meant that in the perception of Warp entities, he was likely an invisible man, with a low probability of being discovered in the early stages.
He had to take this gamble. For longevity, for the immortal path, and to change the family's destiny, he chose to take the risk.
Liang Chengye pondered for a moment, a flash of determination in his eyes.
"Hearing is hollow, seeing is believing. I must go in and see for myself."
Liang Qiming nodded.
"Alright, Father, follow me."
He was the first to step into the light portal. Liang Chengye took a deep breath and followed closely behind.
On the other side of the portal was a desolate hillside.
The color of the sky was slightly strange, and low-lying buildings of a vastly different style could be seen in the distance.
Liang Qiming pointed to the surroundings.
"Father, this is that Agri-world. Based on my preliminary observations and inferences from certain traces, the mortals of this realm have developed a massive interstellar civilization. This planet specializes in producing certain high-value crops or food for trade with other planets. For us, this place is currently far from the main flames of war and is relatively safe."
Liang Chengye cautiously spread out his weak divine sense to probe the surroundings.
He nodded slowly.
The two quickly retreated back through the portal.
Liang Chengye was now completely convinced of the existence and value of the divine ability. His expression was solemn.
"This matter is too significant; it's no longer something just the two of us can decide. We must report this to your grandfather."
Late at night, Liang Chengye and Liang Qiming arrived outside the quiet room of the clan leader, Liang Shoushan.
Liang Qiming knocked gently on the door.
The door opened, and an old man with graying hair and beard, a lean face, and sharp eyes appeared behind it.
He was seventy-eight years old, and his vitality had begun to decline, but his majestic aura remained.
Seeing his grandfather, Liang Qiming instinctively bowed slightly.
Liang Chengye whispered.
"Father, I have a matter of vital importance concerning the survival of the family to report. We need to talk in private."
Liang Shoushan's gaze swept over the two of them. He frowned slightly and stepped aside.
"Come in."
The three entered the quiet room. Liang Chengye activated a higher-level soundproofing restriction.
With Liang Qiming as the primary narrator and Liang Chengye adding details, the two explained the awakening of the divine ability, the portal, and the exploration of the other world.
After listening, Liang Shoushan remained silent for a long time. He sat on a prayer mat, his back straight, staring directly into the void ahead.
Initially, there was shock, followed by deep thought.
Finally, in his slightly clouded old eyes, a sharp, almost blinding light suddenly erupted.
His hands, resting on his knees, had knuckles that turned slightly white from the force of his grip.
The quiet room was deathly silent.
Only the faint sound of the three men's breathing could be heard.
Liang Shoushan's light in his eyes receded, and he suddenly slapped the low table in front of him, producing a dull thud.
He looked at Liang Qiming, his tone resolute.
"Qiming, go! Bring your Second Grandfather here immediately! Tell him there's a matter of immense urgency and he must come at once!"
Liang Qiming left hurriedly.
Liang Shoushan turned to Liang Chengye, his gaze complex and heavy.
"Chengye, I am old, my vitality is failing, and my path ahead is blocked. This opportunity is the family's only chance to soar. I must personally go and explore to blaze a trail for the family."
He paused, his tone brook no argument.
"If I do not return from this journey, the burden of the Liang Family will formally fall upon your shoulders. Guard this foundation, protect the clansmen, and above all, protect Qiming and this portal."
Liang Chengye's eyes instantly reddened. He stepped forward and said urgently.
"Father! Let me go in your stead! You are of advanced age; how can you personally venture into danger? The family cannot do without your presence!"
Liang Shoushan's face darkened, his gaze stern.
"Foolish! Do you think this is child's play, or some competition for merit?"
He lowered his voice, each word clear.
"If both you and I perish in there, who will manage this household? Qiming is young, his cultivation is shallow, and he lacks experience—how could he possibly shoulder this? He needs support; he needs someone to stabilize the rear for him! Your staying behind is a heavier responsibility than entering! The family cannot be left without a successor, and the secret of this portal must not be lost!"
"There is no need for further discussion! My mind is made up."
