6: Chapter 6 Trial Use of Hot Weapons

Liang Shoushan brought his younger brother and son to the periphery of the Iron-Spined Mountain Boar's lair.

This was a leeward, rocky slope with a muddy bog nearby.

He arranged for Liang Shouye and Liang Chengye to lie in ambush in the bushes and behind boulders on either side of the lair's exit, about thirty zhang away.

"Neither of you move until I give the signal. If the first strike misses or that beast goes berserk, then you step in to intercept or use the Otherworld Fire Muskets to finish it off."

He chose a tall ancient tree further away with a clear field of vision, climbing up and hiding himself among the dense foliage.

Stabilizing his position on a branch, Liang Shoushan took out the acatlan recon laser gun from his storage bag.

The rifle had a slender body and was equipped with an Optical Scope. It fired focused laser beams.

He checked the Energy Battery, flipped off the safety, rested the gun on a stable branch, and observed the lair's exit through the scope.

The three waited patiently in ambush from afternoon until dusk, and then as the night grew deeper.

Near midnight, heavy grunting and the sound of rolling stones echoed from within the rocky lair.

A massive dark shadow slowly emerged from the cave entrance. It was indeed that Iron-Spined Mountain Boar.

It was nearly a zhang long, with a shoulder height exceeding that of an adult. Its body was covered in steel-needle-like blackish-brown bristles, and its most prominent feature was the grayish-white bone plates extending from its neck to its rump.

It shook its head, its tusks glinting coldly under the faint starlight.

Liang Shoushan held his breath, his finger lightly resting on the trigger.

He knew that for a Rank 1 Late-Stage Demon Beast, especially one of the thick-skinned variety, the laser rifle's damage wouldn't be fatal.

However, the speed of a laser beam was close to the speed of light; the opponent had absolutely no chance of dodging it based on reaction.

He needed to choose a part that would cause the most damage.

Weak points like the boar's eyes, ear canals, or mouth.

He wasn't aiming for an instant kill, but to disrupt its movements and create an absolute advantage for the subsequent siege.

The Iron-Spined Mountain Boar was completely unaware, lowering its head to root around the ground with its snout.

Holding his breath, he shifted the scope's crosshairs slightly up from the side of the neck, steadily locking onto the boar's eye as it reflected a faint shimmer.

Liang Shoushan pulled the trigger.

The Akatran Laser Rifle had very little recoil, emitting only a faint whirring sound as a blinding red beam shot out instantly.

The speed of light was so fast that almost the moment the trigger was pulled, the beam reached the target.

It accurately struck the boar's eyeball.

The boar suddenly let out a shrill, agonized howl, its entire head jerking to the side.

The struck eye instantly exploded into a cloud of charred black smoke and a small amount of fluid, emitting the burnt aroma of protein. It had lost sight in one eye.

Seeing this, Liang Shoushan immediately leapt down from the tree, shouting at the same time.

"It's a hit! Open fire!"

Liang Shouye and Liang Chengye, who had been waiting for a long time, immediately emerged from their hiding spots upon hearing his voice. They raised their respective rifles and pulled the triggers at the boar, which was briefly stiffened and spinning in place from the intense pain.

Da-da-da-da-da!

Rapid gunfire exploded through the mountain forest. Several tongues of fire spat out, and a barrage of bullets enveloped the boar's massive body.

Under the dual stimulation of intense pain and the attack, the boar instinctively activated its Demonic Qi.

A layer of pale yellow halo covered its entire body, especially over its thick hide and bone plates.

Most of the bullets hit the Demonic Qi-enhanced fur, making dull 'thud-thud-thud' sounds.

The bullet heads were either directly deflected and deformed or became stuck shallowly in the fur, unable to penetrate deeper.

The boar's massive body swayed slightly from the impact, and some small bruises appeared on its skin.

What it felt was more of a continuous stinging and itching, along with the rage of being offended.

The boar's remaining eye instantly locked onto the direction where the gunfire and noise were most concentrated—the ambush point of Liang Shouye and Liang Chengye.

It let out an earth-shattering roar, lowered its head, pointed its two thick tusks forward, and kicked the ground hard with its hind hooves. Mud splattered as it charged fiercely toward the general direction of where the two were hiding.

Even the ground vibrated slightly under its trampling.

Seeing that ordinary rifle bullets had limited effect, Liang Shouye decisively discarded the rifle in his hand and swapped it for the Plasma Pistol from his storage bag.

He aimed at the charging boar and pulled the trigger.

The plasma weapon emitted a sharper hum, firing a glob of high-temperature plasma.

The plasma struck the area of the boar's flank.

The pale yellow Demonic Qi protection reacted violently with the high-temperature plasma, producing a sizzling burning sound.

The boar's fur was instantly charred black, and the subcutaneous tissue was burned, emitting an even stronger stench of singed flesh. The boar's charging momentum visibly faltered as it let out a pained grunt.

Being continuously attacked by lasers, bullets, and plasma—especially with the severe eye injury and the flank burn—caused the boar's physical strength and Demonic Qi to be heavily depleted.

In a charging distance of just two hundred meters, it already showed signs of fatigue, its movements not as fierce as at the beginning.

Seeing the boar's charge blocked by his brother's plasma weapon, Liang Shoushan seized the opportunity and rapidly approached from the rear flank.

With a thought, the Natal Flying Sword he had been nurturing in his dantian flew out as a streak of light. Carrying sharp sword qi, it stabbed directly at the boar's relatively fragile hind leg.

He wasn't seeking a one-hit kill, but aimed to further restrict the boar's mobility, preventing it from charging at full strength and creating more opportunities for subsequent attacks.

The recoil from continuous firing made Liang Chengye's arm go numb, but watching the demon beast in such a pathetic state under their new weapons, a surge of gratification rose in his heart.

Harassed by the flying sword, burned by plasma, and pelted by bullets, the Iron-Spined Mountain Boar fell into a complete frenzy.

It crashed around recklessly, swinging its head and howling, its movements already showing signs of disorder and weakness.

Just as the boar once again opened its bloody maw due to pain and fury, tilting its head back to let out a heaven-shaking roar, a stray bullet coincidentally shot into its wide-open mouth. It pierced diagonally upward through the relatively soft interior of the oral cavity, through the palate, and into the brain.

The boar's howling stopped abruptly. Its massive body suddenly stiffened and crashed to the ground. Its limbs twitched a few times before it stopped moving altogether. Its Demonic Qi quickly dissipated.

The gunfire ceased, and silence returned to the mountain forest.

Liang Chengye panted heavily, his face initially filled with disbelief, which then exploded into immense joy.

"It's dead? It's really dead?!"

Liang Shoushan recalled his flying sword, walked over to the boar's corpse, and gave it a kick to confirm its death. He let out a long sigh of relief.

"The calamity that plagued my Liang Family for over a decade has actually been resolved just like this."

The two brothers looked at each other, both seeing the irrepressible excitement in each other's eyes.
