71: Chapter 71 The King truly lives up to his title.
The dozen or so Peak Masters instantly fell silent.
Though they said nothing, their expressions, ugly to the extreme, already gave Dan Chenzi his answer.
Tiansha Valley had always been the mortal enemy of the Qingyun Sect.
They didn't dare to run amok in the Inner Sect where powerful experts were as numerous as clouds, so they specifically came to their Outer Sect to cause trouble.
Dan Chenzi's face instantly darkened, black as the bottom of a pot.
He recalled three years ago, when his Personal Disciple went out for training, got into a conflict with a Disciple from Tiansha Valley over a transaction for Formation Materials, and was brutally crippled in the Dantian when the other party, failing to swindle him, resorted to a vicious sneak attack instead. A death feud had been formed between them ever since.
Looking again at these Danxia Peak Disciples frozen before him, deliberately left here, it was clearly a show of force aimed at him!
...
Green Bamboo Peak.
Fang Yuan, having gotten up early, had done the tasks befitting his role of clinging to a powerful patron.
He had watered the three acres of spiritual fields in Chun Xiaobai's courtyard and thoughtfully transplanted two spiritual fruit trees from his previous Immortal Cave, planting them in the backyard.
Bai Jiner wasn't idle either; she was clearing away the remnants of the rockery that Chun Xiaobai had smashed to pieces while practicing his skills the day before.
After all, enjoying the treatment that low-level Cultivators could only dream of here, and gaining so many benefits... Most importantly of all, that guy actually called her "Third Leader"!
If she didn't do something, she herself would feel uncomfortable.
Right at that moment, someone knocked on the door of the Immortal Cave.
Bai Jiner put down her work, went to the entrance, and opened the courtyard gate through the Formation, only to find a group of Disciples wearing Law Enforcement uniforms knocking on doors house by house along this street.
A sense of foreboding stirred in her heart.
As soon as she stepped out, a Law Enforcement Disciple walked towards her. His gaze fell upon her, sizing her up from head to toe, before he retracted that somewhat lecherous look, cleared his throat, and said.
"By order of the Outer Sect Leader, recently at night, no Disciple is to leave their Immortal Cave without authorization. Unless for urgent matters, they must travel in groups of five or more!"
Bai Jiner breathed a sigh of relief; she had thought Chun Xiaobai's impersonation of an Outer Sect Disciple had been exposed.
"Thank you, Senior Brother from Law Enforcement, for specially coming to inform me. I understand."
Just then, the ever-curious Fang Yuan, his belly protruding like a ten-month pregnancy, wobbled out. He grabbed that Law Enforcement Disciple's arm and asked.
"Senior Brother, what's going on? Why the sudden restriction on going out?"
That Law Enforcement Disciple didn't hide anything and spoke directly: "A robbery Cultivator has infiltrated our Outer Sect! Last night, they openly robbed thirty Disciples on Danxia Peak!"
"Ah!!!"
Bai Jiner's heart jolted violently, instantly connecting it to a certain individual.
When she got up in the morning, she had faintly heard phrases like "This Great King has struck it rich!" and "These big fat sheep are way too plump!" continuously coming from the Cultivation room next door.
She had thought that guy was asleep, habitually dreaming of striking it rich.
Now it seemed...
However, Bai Jiner still nodded expressionlessly.
"Yes, I understand."
Watching the Law Enforcement Team walk away, she immediately returned to the Immortal Cave, her gaze fixed intently on that tightly closed Cultivation room.
Even now, she could faintly hear clattering sounds from inside, like the collision of protective items.
This might very well be... an inventory of the loot!
She quickly suppressed the panic in her heart and ran towards the door of the Cultivation room.
Just as she reached the door, the Cultivation room's entrance creaked open.
There stood Chun Xiaobai, grinning with a mouthful of white teeth. Seeing the two of them, he waved a grand hand and shouted with immense bravado.
"Come, come, come! This Great King made a windfall last night, everyone gets a share!"
A gleam flashed in Fang Yuan's eyes. He quickly scurried over, hands clasped in a fist salute, his face full of fawning flattery.
"Senior Brother, what did you do last night? To gain such a huge sum?"
Bai Jiner, however, stood frozen in place.
It... it really was him.
"Didn't do much, just went out and fleeced thirty fat sheep," Chun Xiaobai said casually.
"The Mountain King is mighty!"
Fang Yuan immediately gave a thumbs-up, but as the words left his mouth, his pig-like smiling face suddenly stiffened, as if he had thought of something.
Wait!
Thirty fat sheep?
That number... why did it match so closely with what that Law Enforcement Senior Brother said?
He tentatively asked, "Mountain King, those thirty fat sheep you mentioned... they wouldn't happen to be from Danxia Peak, would they?"
"Huh, how did you know?"
Chun Xiaobai was taken aback, looking suspiciously at this damned fatty.
Did this guy follow him last night?
"Uh!!!"
Cold sweat instantly broke out on Fang Yuan's forehead. His face, piled with fat, scrunched up like a bitter steamed bun.
Wasn't this Mountain King's courage a bit too... ample?
Did he really think the Qingyun Sect was a bandit's den?
He hurriedly wiped his sweat, glancing around guiltily like a thief, afraid someone else might be hiding in the courtyard. Then he grabbed Chun Xiaobai's arm, lowered his voice, and said.
"Mountain King! Keep your voice down! If you really went to Danxia Peak yesterday, you've stirred up a hornet's nest of immense proportions!"
He quickly recounted the entire incident of the Law Enforcement Team's warning visit earlier.
The smile faded from Chun Xiaobai's face. He stroked his chin, his brow slightly furrowed.
"You mean the entire Outer Sect is now under lockdown?"
"More than just a lockdown! Judging by the scale, I'm afraid it has alarmed those old monsters above!"
Fang Yuan stomped his foot in anxiety.
However, Chun Xiaobai just stroked his chin, a look of regret on his face.
"This is troublesome... I was planning to work overtime tonight and pull off another job!"
"..."
Bai Jiner's beautiful eyes widened in disbelief as she stared at Chun Xiaobai.
This, this, this guy... had he lost his mind?!
In such a situation, a normal person's first thought would be to flee immediately or find a way to destroy the evidence.
But this guy? He was actually thinking of pulling off another job?
He truly was a hardened bandit!
A madman with no regard for his life!
As for Fang Yuan, who had originally been scared out of his wits and had prepared a bellyful of strategies centered on "Of the thirty-six stratagems, fleeing is best," upon hearing Chun Xiaobai's utterly bandit-like words...
His heart, which had leapt to his throat, felt as if it had been kicked hard. With a "thud," it actually settled back into his stomach.
He remembered a sentence his father had once told him: "A Genius is not scary. What's scary is when a ruffian produces a Genius."
"Such people are inherently unbound by rules, for they are born to break them, to fight against heaven and contend with earth."
"When you encounter such a person, you either stay far away, or you run very, very fast!"
Run?
If it were before, seeing such a person, he would indeed have to run.
But now, this person, more of a Genius than a Genius, was his great benefactor, his Mountain King.
Having drifted outside for so many years, he had finally found his golden thigh. How could he chicken out now?
He knew that with his own talent, if he didn't gamble now, his whole life might just remain like this.
Fang Yuan was silent for a few seconds, then suddenly slapped his own thick thigh, startling Bai Jiner beside him.
"The Mountain King is indeed the Mountain King."
As he said this, he even gave a thumbs-up.
Bai Jiner was stunned. "Have... have these two gone mad?"
