6: Chapter 6: Results of Seclusion, Love-Obsessed Gu Ling

Since it was getting late,

Li Fan did not continue deeper into the jungle to keep hunting.

Instead, he chose to find a clearing and set up his tent first.

Along the way, he also lit a campfire.

Low-level fierce beasts were actually similar to ordinary animals; they generally wouldn't get too close when they saw fire.

With the fire lit, Li Fan would most likely be able to get a peaceful night's sleep.

Once the camp was set up,

Li Fan went to solve the problem of his hunger.

Within a few minutes,

two wild boar carcasses were brought to the camp, becoming the guest stars of "A Bite of Wild Boar Forest, Season 2."

Li Fan's appetite had now grown even further.

Two wild boars as large as small hills were wolfed down by Li Fan in no time.

After eating and drinking his fill,

it was naturally time for another round of exercise.

However, this time Li Fan did not train to the point of exhaustion, instead choosing to conserve some of his physical strength.

This wasn't to guard against wild boars.

After all, with his current defense value, even if he let a wild boar gore him, it would probably take a few days for it to even break through his defense.

What he was mainly guarding against were people.

People were different from wild boars; people were too clever.

Moreover, the people here weren't all novices; there were also many high-level Awakened Ones responsible for escorting others or boosting girls.

If someone wanted to kill him while he was asleep, there were plenty of underhanded tricks they could use.

Even though he had no grievances with anyone and nothing valuable on him,

you could never be sure you wouldn't run into some psychopath who just wanted to kill people at random.

Or perhaps some show-off power-leveling a girl who, on a whim, took a liking to his tent and decided to cause some trouble.

By saving some strength, he could at least last until he opened his eyes to see who it was.

...

Li Fan's luck was very good.

He slept peacefully until dawn.

After packing his belongings, Li Fan didn't linger and headed straight for the depths of the jungle.

The ones on the outskirts were mostly low-level wild boars.

The further he went, the higher the level of the wild boars.

And as for fierce beasts, naturally, the higher the level, the higher the energy in their meat; not only was it easier to level up, but it was also easier to get full.

Advancing all the way,

wherever he passed, boar carcasses were left in his wake.

Because there were so many wild boars here, Li Fan's palate had become more selective; he no longer ate the whole thing, but chose to cut off the more succulent parts.

And as Li Fan continued his slaughter,

Li Fan gradually came to understand why his heaven-defying Body-Refining talent was categorized as D-rank.

The reason was simple.

It was because his leveling speed was simply too slow.

It was slow to an outrageous degree!

In this world, there were only a few ways to level up.

One was to go to secret realms to kill fierce beasts, which granted some experience upon killing them, and then there was the most important part: the beast cores.

beast cores contained massive amounts of energy and could be easily absorbed by people.

They were the primary source for humans to level up.

Besides beast cores, fierce beast meat also contained energy.

However, the energy in meat was naturally far inferior to that of a beast core.

The second way was through supplements.

Supplements were generally refined from various rare raw materials, such as spiritual flowers and precious herbs; depending on the formula and materials, their effects and prices varied.

And because the effects of supplements were so obvious and convenient—potentially even life-saving at critical moments—their prices were basically astronomical.

The third way was very common.

It was simply relying on one's own cultivation, drawing energy directly from heaven and earth.

However, for most people with low-level talents, this was naturally the inferior choice.

Only those like Lin Youwei with extremely high talent, or Awakened Ones who had already reached a very high level, would choose this method.

Returning to Li Fan's side,

he had already killed many wild boars along the way and had even absorbed several Level 2 or higher beast cores.

Yet, his level was still Level 1.

If it were anyone else, they would have already leveled up three or four times!

At a rough estimate, the difficulty of increasing his level was probably dozens of times higher than that of an Awakened One with the same D-rank Talent, and much harder than even the lowest F-rank!

With this difficulty, it was actually normal for his talent to be set at D-rank.

But for Li Fan, it seemed to be fine.

His cheat could basically sweep through various secret realms with ease, so leveling up wouldn't be too slow.

Soon,

Li Fan had already arrived at the deepest part of the jungle.

Just a moment ago, he could still sense many novices teaming up nearby.

But here, there were no longer any signs of people.

Li Fan chose a clearing by the river to set up camp.

For the next half month, he planned to undergo a period of bitter cultivation here.

...

Before he knew it,

ten days had already passed.

The outskirts of the Wild Boar Forest secret realm were no longer as crowded as they had been a while ago.

The reason was simple.

Most people had already set out on the road to their desired Martial Arts Universities, preparing for the entrance exams.

Hang City, high-speed railway station.

"Lingling, let's go, it's time for ticket inspection!"

A female voice's call broke Gu Ling's train of thought.

Looking at the message bar that had remained unanswered for a long time, Gu Ling took a deep breath and turned toward the ticket gate.

Sitting on the train, Gu Ling stared blankly out the window, appearing completely listless.

At this moment, her female companion, Liu Mei, couldn't help but frown and speak up,

"What's wrong? Has that kid Li Fan still not replied to your messages?"

"That dog of a man, is he playing a disappearing act?!"

"By the way, didn't you say he already accepted your confession?"

Hearing Liu Mei's words, Gu Ling hurriedly spoke up,

"He must have been delayed by something."

Liu Mei couldn't stand to hear anymore and said:

"No matter how delayed he is, he wouldn't go several days without replying, right? You, oh you, you're really just a pure love-brain!"

"If you ask me, with your looks and status, what kind of guy couldn't you find?"

"Yes, Li Fan is handsome, but he only has a D-rank Talent. For you, he's destined to be a burden..."

Gu Ling automatically tuned out Liu Mei's words, silently opened her chat with Li Fan, and sent a message.

"Brother Li Fan, I'm going to Beizhou City. If nothing goes wrong, I'll probably go to Azure Vault University; a teacher from the admissions office there called me yesterday."

Seeing that Gu Ling was ignoring her, Liu Mei could only tactfully stop and shook her head with a sigh.
