281: You are different from others, please have mercy!
Apocalypse still landed.
It landed in the empty clearing, amidst Lin Yang's confusion and the panic-stricken eyes of everyone in the primitive tribe.
As the spaceship landed, although everyone in the tribe was extremely panicked, a few men quickly approached it, bowing to the spaceship.
A grand kneeling bow!
Leading them was a gaunt old man, who appeared to be the tribe's leader or the person of highest status.
Under his leadership, everyone collectively shouted towards the spaceship: "Welcome, God, to our land!"
Lin Yang, observing their behavior from inside Apocalypse, was almost certain they had seen other Aliens land multiple times and had interacted with them, so the spaceship was not unfamiliar to them.
However, this contact was clearly not friendly, and the status of both sides was completely unequal.
From their address and behavior, it was evident that the tribe members held immense reverence for the Aliens who descended in spaceships.
"I wonder what the previously landed Aliens did to this tribe to make them so afraid," Lin Yang murmured.
Although he found the title 'God' strange, he quickly understood it.
For such a backward primitive civilization, seeing something as anachronistic as a spaceship and mistaking it for a deity was perfectly understandable.
Afterward, he opened the hatch, preparing to communicate with the tribe members.
As for safety?
Joking aside, not only did their terrified expressions suggest they wouldn't dare offend someone who arrived in a spaceship, but the weapons inside Apocalypse were also not to be trifled with.
For such a backward civilization, let alone high-tech weapons, even a common handgun could wipe out this entire primitive tribe.
Upon seeing the spaceship's hatch open, the few individuals led by the old man knelt again, and the old man spoke once more: "God, please forgive us, we did not know you would suddenly descend, and our sacrifices have not yet matured. Please grant us more time."
Hearing this again, Lin Yang glanced at the women shielding their children behind them, and he began to understand something.
The 'sacrifices' the old man spoke of were most likely the young children of the tribe.
Seeing their anxious expressions, Lin Yang immediately said, "You don't need to panic. I am not here to collect sacrifices."
At his words, everyone in the tribe visibly relaxed.
The old man, while relieved, respectfully said, "Thank you, God, for your forgiveness and benevolence. You have suddenly descended; do you have any other commands?"
Lin Yang shook his head: "You don't need to be afraid. I am just passing through this place, and also, I am not the 'God' you speak of."
Upon hearing this, the old man was visibly stunned. He instinctively looked up slightly, his eyes filled with confusion and disbelief, murmuring, "You travel in a flying object; how can you not be a God?"
The other people in the tribe also showed expressions of shock.
Hearing this, Lin Yang immediately understood why they had called him 'God' from the start.
It turned out that because he and the previous Aliens who appeared in this tribe had both descended in spaceships, they mistakenly thought he was one of those previously landed Aliens.
Immediately, Lin Yang said no more and directly asked, "Have you seen this kind of spaceship and the people on it before?"
His question left the old man and others a bit confused, but he still nodded and said, "Yes, God descends periodically."
As he spoke, the old man seemed to recall something and, emboldened, said, "Please forgive me, you said you are not our God, then are you another God from the God's race?"
"This... you can understand it that way for now," Lin Yang pondered for a moment before replying.
To the people of this tribe, both he and the others who had previously descended here were Aliens, so understanding it that way was not incorrect.
"Thank you, God, for clarifying," the old man bowed again.
"You all can get up first; I have a few questions I'd like to ask."
Lin Yang watched them still kneeling on the ground, told them to rise first, and then asked a few relevant questions.
With the old man's answers, Lin Yang understood the basic situation here.
As he had previously guessed, other Aliens had landed here, and they would descend once every few years to collect sacrifices.
And the sacrifices were the children!
Children over twelve years old!
Each time, this tribe had to offer at least ten children between the ages of twelve and eighteen as sacrifices, in exchange for the protection of that Alien civilization.
It was called protection, but in reality, it only meant that the other party would not attack the tribe; they had not provided any substantial help.
However, for their backward tribal civilization, not attacking them was already considered the greatest protection.
After learning these basic facts, Lin Yang understood why the tribe members were so terrified when they first saw Apocalypse.
For them, each landing of Apocalypse was a nightmare.
It meant that at least ten children from the tribe would be taken away.
In fact, for a large tribe of several thousand people, losing ten children was not entirely unacceptable.
After all, in the barbaric era, many children died young each year.
But the fundamental problem was that the Alien civilization would come to collect them every few years.
And each time, they would select the children with the best physiques and health from the tribe.
This was undoubtedly severing the future of the entire tribe.
In this barbaric era, having the healthiest children taken away meant that the hope for the tribe's strength and rise was taken away.
Without excellent descendants to inherit and carry on, the tribe would only become weaker and weaker.
Over time, it would get closer and closer to extinction.
This tribe saw no hope whatsoever.
"No wonder everyone here has only numbness and despair in their eyes, even the children are no exception," Lin Yang sighed.
Clearly, that Alien civilization treated this place as a slave supply ground, coming to collect periodically.
This behavior was no different from a pig farm or livestock farm on Blue Star.
It was just a ranch providing them with high-quality adolescent slaves.
As for the future and survival of this tribe, they didn't care.
When they could no longer exploit it, they could simply find other backward planets to continue exploiting.
To be honest, this was even more tragic than turning the people here into slaves and selling them all at once.
If sold as slaves, the suffering would only be once.
But here, the people of the tribe had to endure the double pressure and Strike of physical and mental stress.
They saw no hope of escape, only endless despair.
The entire tribe exuded an aura of decay.
"God, can you help us plead with our God? The collection every few years is too frequent; our children don't have enough time to grow up."
Suddenly, the old man looked at Lin Yang, pleadingly, and then knelt down again.
Lin Yang fell silent for a moment, looking at the old man's pleading gaze. After a long silence, he slowly said:
"Since you know that I am also from the so-called 'God' race you speak of, and you still say this, aren't you afraid that I will turn around and tell your God that you find their act of collecting sacrifices excessive, thus inviting punishment?"
The old man, however, said with firm eyes: "God, I can feel it, you are different from the other Gods. Please have mercy!"
