310: Awakening, dreaming? (Two chapters in one)

Five minutes later.

Lin Mu dragged the ice coffin back inside the Apocalypse.

The moment the ice coffin entered the ship, an intense chill filled the entire cabin.

“Achoo…”

Even wearing a thermal suit, Lin Yang couldn't help but shiver and sneeze again.

“Seeing a coffin means getting rich, seeing a coffin means getting rich!”

Then, Lin Yang rubbed his nose, mumbled a few words, took a close look at the ice coffin and the person inside, and then retreated far away.

There was nothing he could do; being too close to the ice coffin, even with a thermal suit, was unbearably cold.

The material of the ice coffin was clearly extraordinary, but he couldn't identify it.

As for the person lying in the ice coffin, the most striking feature was their hair.

Their hair was half black and half white, with each strand being half black and half white, looking very peculiar.

Other than that, there was no difference from a normal person.

However, this guy was clearly not a normal person either.

The mere chill emanating from the ice coffin caused the temperature inside the ship to drop, yet this guy was lying inside the ice coffin wearing only a thin layer of clothing.

This was clearly abnormal.

One must know that even with freezing technology, the frozen subject could not lie there in such thin clothes, otherwise their flesh would be directly frozen and damaged.

But this guy was lying in this chilling ice coffin without being directly frozen to death, which was incredibly unbelievable.

Especially since there was no oxygen device in this ice coffin, and this guy hadn't suffocated while floating in space before, indicating that this person was definitely not a normal person.

If the System hadn't given him a mission, he would have run far away already.

Now that the ice coffin had been dragged into the ship, Lin Yang thought for a moment and had Lin Mu move the ice coffin into a separate room for isolation.

Although it might not be of much use, at least it provided a psychological sense of security.

As for saving the person…

“Commander, this ice coffin cannot be opened from the outside; we can only supply more oxygen and try to raise the room’s temperature to see if the person inside can wake up.” After multiple attempts, Lin Mu reluctantly gave up on the idea of opening the ice coffin.

Lin Yang nodded slightly and slowly said, “This guy should be a Super Warrior. We’ll do what we can; the rest depends on this guy’s own luck.”

Being able to lie in such a cold ice coffin and float in space without suffocating, the answer was already very clear: this person was definitely a Super Warrior or a Gene Warrior.

Now that the ice coffin couldn’t be opened, whether they lived or died depended solely on this guy’s own fortune.

Lin Mu also nodded, “I checked his physical condition, and all indicators are indeed unusual. He should be a Gene Warrior.”

“A Gene Warrior? Then let’s see if he can wake up on his own. Judging by the material of this ice coffin, this guy should not be an ordinary Gene Warrior, otherwise he wouldn’t have been able to obtain this clearly precious ice coffin.” Lin Yang said, then asked, “Did you check if he sustained any injuries?”

“No, although he is in a deep sleep, I did not detect any physical damage to him.” Lin Mu shook his head.

“That’s strange. If he’s not injured, why is he sleeping in this ice coffin?” Lin Yang mumbled.

“Commander, it’s also possible that he suffered a neurological injury in his brain. Currently, we cannot perform a more detailed examination on him.” Lin Mu added.

“Never mind, we can’t open this ice coffin anyway. Just give him more oxygen. It’s good if he wakes up; if not, there’s nothing we can do.” Lin Yang waved his hand, saying no more.

Although the System had given a mission, saying that saving this guy would yield a reward.

But this ice coffin simply couldn’t be opened.

Lin Mu tried to use a focused energy beam to cut it, but it wouldn’t cut.

The material of this ice coffin was unimaginably hard.

Now, they could only leave this guy to fate.

After increasing the oxygen supply, Lin Yang watched for a while longer before returning to the main command cabin.

“It’s too cold. That ice coffin is constantly emitting coldness. Before, in space, the coldness could penetrate the ship. Now that the ice coffin is inside the ship, the coldness is getting stronger and stronger.”

Two hours later, even wearing a thermal suit, Lin Yang was starting to struggle.

He had thought that isolating it in a separate room would help, but it completely failed to stop the coldness from the ice coffin from spreading.

Cang Miao also began to struggle and put on a thermal suit.

Lin Mu, on the other hand, was calculating some data nearby and quickly said, “Commander, according to the current rate of temperature drop, in another two and a half hours, it will reach our current limit of endurance. At that time, even some instruments on the ship will be affected, making normal navigation impossible. We need to land nearby and light a fire to cope with the low temperature after two and a half hours.”

“At such a low temperature, lighting a fire would be useless.” Lin Yang frowned deeply.

He couldn't quite understand it. Although the material of the ice coffin looked like ice, whether it was or not, he couldn't comprehend why there was a continuous emission of cold air and such a large radiation range.

Now, some parts of the ship had already started to form a small layer of ice crystals.

This was beyond his current scope of understanding.

“Commander, why don’t we move this ice coffin to another spaceship?” Cang Miao suggested.

“There’s no point. That spaceship is too ordinary. The current temperature is already enough to affect that spaceship’s flight. If we put the ice coffin on it, that spaceship would directly become unable to fly normally.” Lin Yang shook his head.

He had thought of this just now, but that spaceship was far inferior to the Apocalypse. The current temperature was enough to affect all the instruments on that spaceship, rendering it unable to fly.

“Then this won’t do. We might freeze to death.” Cang Miao said in a low voice.

Lin Yang’s brows were tightly furrowed. Cang Miao was right.

If the ice coffin remained in the ship, the temperature would continue to drop, and when the thermal suits became ineffective, the extremely low temperature could indeed freeze people to death.

“System, do you have a way to solve the temperature problem? If not, I’ll throw this ice coffin, coffin and person included, back into space.” Lin Yang silently asked.

Although the System had just given a rescue mission, his own Life was more important.

This ice coffin and the person inside were too bizarre.

The mission reward wasn’t worth it.

Besides, it hadn’t even specified what the reward would be.

The System did not answer immediately but waited for a moment before responding.

“Responding to Host, the System currently has no way to solve the temperature problem, but you need not worry. The System can provide you with another method that might induce the person inside the ice coffin to awaken.”

“Might?” Lin Yang was speechless.

“Yes, the System is not 100% certain that the method will be effective, but the success rate is above 95%.”

“Oh… 95% success rate? What’s the method?” Lin Yang’s eyes glinted.

Such a high success rate was worth a try.

“Responding to Host, you can try to take out the extraordinary characteristic material obtained from that backward tribe before and place it in the room where the ice coffin is located. If all goes well, the person in the ice coffin may awaken within two hours.”

The method given by the System made Lin Yang pause: “Using extraordinary characteristic material to stimulate? Will that work?”

“It should work.”

Lin Yang fell silent for a moment, then asked, “System, do you know more about this person? Is this ice coffin also an extraordinary characteristic material?”

Using extraordinary characteristic material to stimulate the person inside the ice coffin to awaken, coupled with the System’s previous statement, “Discovered special characteristic Life form,” made Lin Yang unable to help but think more deeply.

“Responding to Host, the System is temporarily unable to provide more information. Please understand.”

“…Alright, then I’ll give it a try.”

Hearing this, Lin Yang didn’t ask any more questions. He directly took out the small box containing the extraordinary characteristic material, opened it, and had Lin Mu take it to the room where the ice coffin was placed.

“Commander, will this work?” Lin Mu and Cang Miao were both curious.

“We’ll know if it works in two hours. Anyway, we won’t reach our low-temperature endurance limit until two and a half hours from now. If it doesn’t succeed within two hours, then we’ll just throw him back into space.” Lin Yang slowly said.

Lin Mu and Cang Miao exchanged glances and said no more, watching silently.

Lin Yang also endured the cold and did not leave.

He wanted to see what phenomenon would occur when extraordinary characteristic materials interacted.

Although the System was temporarily unable to provide more information, based on Lin Yang’s understanding of the System, its choice of words basically confirmed that there was an extraordinary characteristic material in or within this ice coffin.

Otherwise, there would be no need to use another extraordinary characteristic material for stimulation.

However, to Lin Yang’s slight disappointment, after placing the small box inside, there was no visible change whatsoever, and even the monitoring instruments did not detect any abnormal energy fluctuations.

Soon, two hours passed.

Nothing happened.

“Commander, should we throw him back into space now?” Lin Mu asked punctually.

“Throw him.” Lin Yang sighed.

The System said there would be a result within two hours. Now, the person hadn’t woken up, and nothing had happened. Although there was some regret and disappointment, they could only discard him.

The temperature inside the ship had already dropped to near their endurance limit.

There was no more time to wait.

“Understood.”

Lin Mu responded, walked into the room, and was about to drag the ice coffin away.

But, the next instant, Lin Mu’s expression suddenly changed drastically, and he turned to Lin Yang, saying, “Commander, this ice coffin seems to be fixed by some force. I can’t drag it.”

“What?” Lin Yang was instantly startled.

Lin Mu tried harder again, but the ice coffin remained motionless.

“This… is this a case of easy to invite, hard to send off?” A bad premonition rose in Lin Yang’s heart, and he quickly said, “Put the small box away and try again.”

Lin Mu nodded, reaching out to grab the box.

However…

“Commander, the box is also locked by a special force. I can’t move it either.” Lin Mu said faintly.

“…” Lin Yang’s heart skipped a beat. “You can’t even move the box?”

“Yes.” Lin Mu spread his hands helplessly.

“This… you damn System, look at the mess you’ve caused. What do we do now? We can’t even throw it away, and we’ll be frozen to death soon!” Lin Yang took a deep breath and cursed the damn System.

“I apologize, Host. This situation was not within the System’s predictions. Please remain calm. Perhaps there will be another turning point.”

“You…” Lin Yang was instantly furious and was about to continue cursing the damn System.

Wasn’t this just playing with him?

However, before he could utter a second word, the ice coffin suddenly trembled violently.

Similarly trembling was the small box.

“Beep, beep, beep!”

“Warning! Warning! Unknown and powerful force detected! Please abandon ship immediately! Please abandon ship immediately!”

The piercing mechanical sound of the Apocalypse echoed.

This made Lin Yang briefly stunned. This was the first time he had heard such a warning, actually directly telling them to abandon ship?!

Bang!

The next moment, before Lin Yang could even react, Lin Mu was suddenly and unexpectedly flung out of the room, landing heavily on the floor.

“Lin Mu?! Are you alright?!” Lin Yang was startled.

Lin Mu slowly stood up: “Thank you for your concern, Commander. I’m fine, it’s just that I can’t enter the room anymore.”

Although the room door was still open, an invisible force blocked the room. Lin Mu would be repelled if he tried to enter.

“If you can’t get in, then don’t. Stay far away. It seems the box still had an effect.” Lin Yang stared at the situation in the room, unsure whether he felt relieved or something else.

At this moment, inside the room, the ice coffin was trembling violently, and the box was slowly being drawn by an invisible force to land on top of the ice coffin.

Thump!

Thump!

Thump!

Suddenly, dull thuds emanated, extremely rhythmic, like heavy hammers striking, or like…

“This is… the sound of a heartbeat?!”

Lin Yang inexplicably felt something, staring intently at the person inside the ice coffin, his eyes filled with shock.

Because these dull thuds were coming from the man’s chest.

The man, who had been in a deep sleep, now had his chest trembling, at the same frequency as the dull thuds.

This was the sound of his heart resuming its beat!

He felt a little parched.

The resumption of a heartbeat could cause such a huge commotion; he could hardly imagine how vigorous this guy’s Life force was!

Lin Mu and Cang Miao also watched without blinking, both incredibly shocked.

Under the three people’s stunned gazes, the man slowly sat up from inside the ice coffin, directly facing Lin Yang and the others. Although his eyes were closed, Lin Yang felt as if a profound gaze was staring at him, and cold sweat instantly broke out on his back. He dared not move a muscle.

Just like that, this eerie staring contest lasted a full five minutes. Just as Lin Yang felt he could no longer withstand the pressure, the man suddenly spoke, a deep voice resounding:

“Little guy, your endurance is truly weak. You rookies actually possess extraordinary characteristic material; how interesting.”

As the man’s voice emanated, Lin Yang felt the pressure on his body instantly dissipate. He was about to say something, but then he heard the man suddenly let out a cold snort:

“Who are you? Are you from a supreme civilization or an Extraordinary Universe Kingdom? Waking me with such advanced extraordinary characteristic material, are you trying to find the whereabouts of ‘World’? I tell you, dream on!”

“…” Lin Yang’s throat bobbed. Looking at this guy who was talking to himself, he was momentarily speechless.

What was all this?

He didn’t understand any of it!
