230: Chapter 230 A College Student's Naive Confession

It was almost dinnertime, and Zou Luyao should be done with class, so Zhao Xiaoshuai arrived at Provincial University once again to pick her up.

In front of the teaching building, students were crowded three layers deep, all holding up their phones, watching some spectacle.

"Classmate, what's going on here?"

The male student who had been tapped on the shoulder turned around to look. The person asking looked familiar—judging by his age, he was likely a graduate student—so without thinking much, he explained the situation.

Roughly speaking, someone had set up a large heart-shaped formation of candles on the sports field, preparing to confess to Zou Luyao.

Given Zou Luyao's beauty, after having been enrolled for half a year, she naturally had many pursuers. Classmates, students from her department, and even students from other colleges or seniors would come to curry favor with her every few days.

Today, because of Zou Luyao's transfer to another class, two of her original admirers couldn't sit still anymore.

Originally, they had the advantage of proximity, so they were playing the long game, focusing on building daily affection by doing things like saving seats for Zou Luyao or buying her water.

But her transfer made them feel that their former "advantage" had been destroyed in an instant. In their desperation, they spent just one afternoon planning a "grand" confession.

And it turned out that two boys had the same idea, resulting in this confession scene that looked like a competition.

One of the boys was quite handsome; he had arranged love letters on the ground into a heart shape and was passionately confessing to a girl at the entrance of the teaching building.

"Luyao, from the moment you first appeared that day, you walked straight into my heart..."

Another boy, not as handsome but taller and more spirited, was standing inside a heart-shaped circle of candles, holding a guitar and singing:

"With the evening breeze as wine, I will drink with you until we grow old..."

Meanwhile, Zou Luyao was standing helplessly at the building entrance.

Because she had just arranged to meet Zhao Xiaoshuai at the entrance via her phone, she couldn't leave. Otherwise, in this situation, she would have turned and walked away. After all, she wasn't good at socializing and didn't know how to reject people without hurting them.

Many young boys fall into a major misconception, which is wanting to make the confession scene very grand and "very romantic," treating it as a winning strategy.

In reality, a confession is merely the confirmation of a result. If a girl likes you, you only need to ask quietly when you are alone, "Will you be my girlfriend?" and she will smile happily and say "Yes."

But if she has no feelings for you to begin with, the grander you make the scene, the more embarrassed she will feel, and you won't even be able to be friends afterward.

Fortunately, Zou Luyao was okay; she had plenty of experience with being confessed to, so she didn't feel too awkward and could stand there calmly.

However, her silence was misinterpreted by the two boys.

"She didn't turn and walk away. Is she hesitating?"

So, both of them confessed even more passionately; one recited cheesy pickup lines, and the other sang in an even louder voice.

The situation became increasingly awkward.

But the onlookers were just people who enjoyed watching the chaos, mindlessly shouting, "Be together!" "Say yes to him!"

So, when the situation became increasingly uncontrollable, even Zou Luyao couldn't take it anymore.

She realized that by standing here, she might be giving others the wrong signal, so she took out her phone to message Zhao Xiaoshuai and arrange to meet somewhere else.

Just then, her hand was suddenly grabbed by someone, and then he started pulling her away.

She instinctively tried to break free, but the hand was exceptionally strong. She looked up and saw Zhao Xiaoshuai's mocking face as he made a gesture for her to run away with him.

Zou Luyao had been waiting for him there anyway, so without thinking too much, she left with him.

However, she took a slight glance at her held hand; it didn't seem to bother her as much, so she let him hold it.

The crowd's jeering suddenly stopped, then they discovered new gossip and became even more excited.

Finally, someone in the crowd with sharp eyes recognized who this man was who had suddenly appeared and taken away the goddess Luyao.

"Isn't that the old social guy! So the rumors in the post were all true; they really are together!"

"Damn, it really is him. My brother looks even more handsome in person than in the photos!"

"He's got his eyes on the campus goddess, so stop being a fangirl."

"You know, I don't look that much worse than Zou Luyao, so why can't I meet my Prince Charming?"

Another girl looked at her roommate and chose not to speak.

With the crowd's reminder, the two big boys who were competing over "who loved Zou Luyao more" suddenly realized what was happening, but by the time they looked, Zhao Xiaoshuai was already leading Zou Luyao away.

In desperation, the more handsome boy shouted loudly, "Zou Luyao, do you like money that much!?"

Zou Luyao looked back in confusion, not understanding what he meant.

Zhao Xiaoshuai completely ignored him. It wasn't his first time encountering male college students; in his eyes, these people were still children, and he didn't even have the interest to put them down.

Naive and weak, yet passionate and brave.

The other boy didn't act as ugly; he just looked at the girl's departing back with some regret and resolved that he must make a lot, lot of money in the future!

Two choices correspond to two different lives.

If the second boy can truly remember his regret today and work hard, once he succeeds in his career, the number of outstanding girls chasing after him might be too many to count on two hands.

As for the first boy, if he doesn't have an inheritance to rely on, there is a high probability that he will live a mediocre life. His best outcome might be enduring a few years of being a sugar baby, making his second half of life a bit easier.

It wasn't until they sat in the cool porsche 918 that the noise of the crowd was finally shut out.

"What do you want to eat tonight? Tonight counts as a celebration for you starting your job, my treat."

"How about the snacks at Rixin Building?"

"Don't you want to pick a big meal?"

"A big meal? Do you mean like the Western food in TV dramas? I once ate Western food, and it felt quite unpalatable."

"Then today I will take you to eat one that is actually delicious."

He took Zou Luyao to the high-end Western restaurant that Jia Youran had recommended last time, and sure enough, after just a few bites, she exclaimed that it was delicious.

"I previously thought Western food just looked pretty on the plate but didn't taste good. I didn't expect this place of yours to have such good flavor."

"Hehe, you get what you pay for. Just this little bit in front of you is probably half a month of your salary."

"Ah? It's that expensive!"

Since deciding to take this part-time job, Zou Luyao had done some research online and with familiar classmates, roughly knowing the salary level of ordinary people.

Most people's starting salary is only 3000, and for her, with this working time and content, getting 2000 is already considered a very good treatment.

Zou Luyao was already almost full, but upon hearing how expensive this meal was, she quickly lowered her head and tried hard to eat every plate of food.

"Don't overeat."

"No, if I miss this, I won't be able to eat it again in the future. I can't bear to eat such an expensive meal!"
