43: Beast Tide
Looking towards the source of the disaster, the earth trembled.
In the distance, the horizon was filled with rolling dust, like a boiling grey tide, sweeping towards several villages at the edge of the forest!
Deafening roars, hisses, and stomping sounds mixed together, forming a destructive torrent, and the sky was obscured by startled flocks of birds, like moving dark clouds.
Trees fell in swathes, and dust permeated the air.
A Spirit Beast tide!
Its scale far exceeded imagination; hundreds, even thousands, of Spirit Beasts of various kinds, with blood-red eyes, were driven by an invisible whip, having lost all reason, leaving only a wild destructive instinct, frantically charging towards the unsuspecting human settlements.
Among them were many massive and ferocious Millennium Spirit Beasts.
The village Mo Yuhan saw was the first to be affected.
The crude wooden fences shattered like paper under the impact of the Spirit Beast tide's vanguard.
Burning houses, desperate cries, and the Spirit Beasts' ferocious claws and fangs flickered in and out of sight in the dust.
A scene of living hell.
Mo Yuhan's heart was filled with urgency; as a fellow human, he could not stand by and do nothing.
Phoenix Flight Step instantly activated, turning him into a blur sweeping low to the ground, rocketing towards the village.
The Soul Power and Dou Qi that had just stabilized within him circulated wildly.
As he rushed to the village entrance, he witnessed a shocking scene.
In the center of the village, a young girl's figure stood like a Sea God's calming needle.
Her silver hair, flowing like moonlight and pure as first snow, danced wildly in the turbulent air, and her blue-green long dress fluttered.
She held her hands high, and between her fingers, an unprecedented, substantial, brilliant green light bloomed.
Her emerald eyes were as deep as an abyss, as if the life force of an entire forest was burning within them.
“Blue Silver Domain: Endless Growth!”
As her clear and majestic chant echoed, centered on her, countless thick, tough Blue Silver Grass vines, shimmering with a crystalline blue-green luster, burst forth from the scorched earth like awakened emerald dragons, soaring into the sky.
They were not chaotic but instantly intertwined into an immense, emerald-green giant net, covering more than half of the village area.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
The furious vanguard of the Spirit Beast tide crashed violently against this resilient life net.
The giant net vibrated intensely, emitting a grating, taut sound, and countless vines were torn apart by the immense force.
But even more vines surged frantically from deep within the earth and from the surviving Blue Silver Grass clumps, repairing the giant net one after another.
The circulating life aura on the vines continuously weakened the Spirit Beasts' impact and also emitted a powerful soothing aura, attempting to calm the madness deep within their souls.
Some lower-tier, relatively weaker Spirit Beasts, upon approaching this Domain of life, showed a hint of struggle and confusion in their furious red eyes, and their charging speed noticeably slowed.
However, this life net could only obstruct and delay; it could not completely stop the powerful, deeply enraged Millennium Spirit Beasts.
Several Earth-Splitting Rhinos, massive as small mountains and covered in thick, rock-like armor, roared to the heavens with their huge horns, tearing several massive gaps in the vine net.
Their sharp horns gleamed with a cold light as they charged towards the panicked villagers.
“Stop right there!!!”
Mo Yuhan roared, like a clap of thunder.
He instantly plunged into the battlefield, and the air behind him violently twisted—
“Purple Cloud Wings!”
Magnificent deep-purple energy wings suddenly unfurled, stirring up strong air currents, lifting him instantly into the air.
From above, he locked onto an Earth-Splitting Rhino that had broken through the vine net and was lowering its horn to plow through the crowd.
“Third Spirit Ability!”
A cold light burst from his eyes, and his deep purple spirit ring glowed brightly! His right fist clenched, and the dark-gold Xuan Huang Flame, as if summoned, frantically gathered and compressed.
It was no longer gentle flowing flames but transformed into a violently churning, molten sphere with a dazzling crimson core; the terrifying high temperature warped the surrounding air.
“Crimson Crystal Furnace!”
The Purple Cloud Wings behind him flapped downwards, and he descended like a meteor from the sky.
His right fist, burning with the furnace's fire, descended with destructive power, aimed precisely at the relatively vulnerable joint between the Earth-Splitting Rhino's neck and shoulder, striking down fiercely.
Boom—!!!
Like a volcanic eruption, the dark-gold fiery fist with its molten core slammed heavily onto the Earth-Splitting Rhino's thick rock armor.
The terrifying high temperature, molten penetration, and elemental burning's dual power instantly erupted; the hard rock armor emitted a piercing shriek, melting and vaporizing at a visible rate.
Wild molten fire currents surged madly into the Earth-Splitting Rhino's body.
“Ow—!!!”
The Earth-Splitting Rhino let out an earth-shattering wail, its massive body staggering violently sideways, its horn narrowly missing the crowd.
It struggled painfully, as if magma flowed within it, and its movements instantly became sluggish.
Mo Yuhan, having succeeded with one strike, did not linger.
The Purple Cloud Wings vibrated again, like purple lightning, as he lunged at another Spirit Beast that had breached the defense line.
The terrifying explosive power of Crimson Crystal Furnace was displayed to its fullest in his hands; each strike precisely hit the Spirit Beasts' vital points or joints, not aiming for an instant kill.
He only sought to block, repel, and create chaos to the greatest extent, buying time for the mysterious girl's vine net to recover and re-restrain.
In the sky, purple wings fluttered, and molten fiery fists roared and exploded.
On the ground, silver hair danced, and the emerald vine net remained resilient and unyielding.
Though the two had not spoken, they cooperated flawlessly.
Mo Yuhan's explosive attacks were like the sharpest spear, precisely tearing through the fiercest vanguard of the Spirit Beast tide, repelling or severely injuring the most threatening individuals.
And the girl's life net was like the most resilient shield, extensively slowing, dispersing, and soothing the impact of the Spirit Beast tide, protecting the frightened villagers.
Her Domain also continuously emitted a soft green light, sprinkling like fine rain onto the injured villagers, stabilizing their wounds and dispelling their fear.
This sudden catastrophe, under their unsparing, full-power protection, finally gradually subsided.
The subsequent Spirit Beast groups, under Ah Yin's continuous soothing life Domain, had their wildness reduced, were attracted by something further away, and bypassed this village protected by resilient Blue Silver Grass and scorching Xuan Huang Flame.
Leaving behind only a more devastated ruin, shaken villagers, and injured Spirit Beasts and humans scattered everywhere.
When the last Spirit Beast's roar disappeared deep in the forest, Mo Yuhan's Purple Cloud Wings slowly retracted, and he landed on the ground, breathing slightly, his face somewhat pale; continuously activating his Third Spirit Ability was a huge drain on him, having just broken through.
Ah Yin also lowered her raised hands, and the emerald giant net enveloping the village slowly dissipated; her figure swayed slightly, and her silver hair, as pure as moonlight, seemed to have dimmed a bit, her emerald eyes filled with exhaustion.
Their gazes met in the air.
There were no words, only deep fatigue, and an unspoken trust and understanding forged after fighting side by side through bloodshed.
Looking at the tragic ruins before them, seeing the villagers' faces, which showed not only the relief of surviving a disaster but also a deeper despair.
Mo Yuhan took a deep breath, suppressing his body's fatigue, and his voice rang out steadily: “Everyone, don't be afraid! The Spirit Beast tide has retreated! As long as we're alive, there's hope! Clear the ruins, treat the injured, and rebuild our homes!”
His young voice seemed to carry a calming power.
The villagers' blank gazes gradually focused, looking at the young man who had descended from the sky like a war god, protecting them, and the silver-haired woman who had shielded them like a forest goddess.
