42: Hero saves beauty

The fourth floor of the Tianxia Tavern is a place specifically for Cultivators to dine, so for the sake of the Cultivators' privacy, there are independent small rooms.

However, these small rooms lack isolation Formations, so sounds can still be heard from within.

At this moment, the sound of heavy objects striking wooden boards and a woman's screams could be heard clearly by Zhou Luo.

In the cultivation world, where the strong are respected, such occurrences are quite common.

Otherwise, why would there be people publicly selling slaves on the market?

Logically speaking, when encountering such a situation, Zhou Luo, who believes in the Dao of Survival, should not intervene.

However, having received nine years of compulsory education, he could not bear to see such things happen right in front of him and remain indifferent.

This was simply his nature.

Furthermore, Maple Leaf City is the Family's territory, and with his status and position within the Family, he truly had the authority to intervene on this fourth floor.

Thus, he stood up, walked outside, and knocked on the door of the neighboring room.

The next second, a fierce-looking man pulled open the wooden door and glared at him, asking, "What is it?"

Zhou Luo did not speak at first, but merely glanced into the room.

He discovered a woman lying on the bench in front of the table, and a faint smell of blood wafted through the air.

"What are you doing?" he asked in a deep voice.

"What business is it of yours?" the man replied impolitely, moving to close the door.

However, Zhou Luo moved his right foot slightly to block the door.

"You're courting death!" Seeing that he couldn't close the door, the man was instantly enraged; he yanked the door open and roared.

This commotion startled the waiter who was currently delivering dishes.

He hurried over after setting down his load, asking cautiously, "Two masters, what is the matter?"

Before the man could speak, Zhou Luo suddenly produced a token and commanded, "Make him leave."

Upon seeing the token that belonged exclusively to the Family, the waiter shuddered and hurriedly bowed in salute.

Inside the room, the man also caught sight of the token, and the arrogant expression on his face instantly turned into one of astonishment.

He looked at the other party in disbelief, terror written across his face.

In Maple Leaf City, the Family was the "local emperor"; as a mere Loose Cultivator, how could he dare to provoke such an existence?

His body trembled and his heart quaked, rendering him unable to speak for a long time.

"Hmm?" Seeing that neither of them moved, Zhou Luo let out a low, questioning sound.

The waiter finally snapped to his senses, pulled the man out, and said sternly, "From now on, you are never allowed to appear here again."

The man finally regained his composure; looking at Zhou Luo's back, he knelt down with a thud and pleaded, "Master, I was blind, I was truly blind..."

He had never imagined that someone from the Family would appear on the fourth floor.

Thinking that his earlier words might have angered the other party, he had no choice but to set aside his dignity and beg for mercy to save his life.

"Get lost." Zhou Luo ignored his pleas.

The man then scrambled away from the fourth floor.

Only after he had left did the waiter ask cautiously, "Master, would you like to move to a higher floor?"

"No need, you may go back to your work." Zhou Luo declined.

"Understood." The waiter retreated respectfully.

Afterward, Zhou Luo entered the room.

The woman inside the room was still in a coma, and Zhou Luo had originally intended to just leave.

After all, he had done what he could.

But suddenly, he remembered the person who was monitoring him from the shadows.

Thus, he took out a Medicinal Pill and leaned over, intending to feed it to the woman.

Only then did he see her face clearly.

She was a young girl of about eighteen or nineteen, with a pure and cute face, delicate, smooth skin that glowed with a faint luster, and messy, raven-black hair; her curled-up form made her look weak and pitiful.

Zhou Luo placed the Medicinal Pill into the girl's mouth.

A moment later, the girl let out a soft groan and woke up from her coma.

The moment she woke up, she subconsciously recoiled, looking at the person before her with terror.

When she saw his face clearly, the expression of terror on her face gave way to a hint of confusion.

"Don't be afraid, you're safe now," Zhou Luo said softly.

The girl still dared not approach; she simply hugged her knees and hid in the corner, her beautiful eyes filled with vigilance.

Zhou Luo was not in a hurry and recounted what had just happened.

Upon learning that he had saved her, the girl finally relaxed. Then, remembering her ordeal, her eyes welled up with tears, and she broke down crying on the spot, as if to pour out all the emotions pent up in her heart.

Zhou Luo did not stop her, simply watching quietly.

Her crying startled others nearby, but upon learning that a Family disciple was inside, everyone silently retreated.

A few minutes later, the girl's sobbing gradually quieted down.

Zhou Luo produced a white handkerchief from somewhere and handed it to her.

The girl took the handkerchief to wipe away her tears, looked up at her savior, and said with a choked voice, "Thank you."

"It's alright, it's good to let it all out," Zhou Luo comforted, before extending an invitation: "My room is next door. You must be hungry; come and have something to eat."

The girl nodded timidly.

Arriving at his room, he found that the waiter had already served the spiritual food.

Zhou Luo didn't ask any questions, simply proceeding to eat on his own.

Seeing him eat, the girl finally let down her last defenses and began to eat as well.

Through simple questioning, Zhou Luo learned that the girl before him was named Bai Zhiyan.

As for what had happened to her,

Zhou Luo was not interested, so he did not ask.

Because in his view, it was nothing more than some sordid business involving human trafficking.

If he hadn't wanted her to help provide cover for him, he would have left long ago.

During the meal, Zhou Luo did not hold back and directly stated his purpose.

Upon learning that she only needed to stay in the room alone for half a day, Bai Zhiyan agreed.

Thus, after the meal, Zhou Luo indicated to the waiter that he wanted to book a room, preferably one that was more private.

The waiter glanced at the poignant and beautiful girl beside him, immediately understanding the situation, and quickly arranged a room on the eighth floor.

Not long after Zhou Luo and Bai Zhiyan entered the room, a figure appeared on the eighth floor.

It was the person the Family had arranged to monitor him.

This person felt a pang of envy, naturally assuming that the other party had won the girl's heart after playing the hero to save the beauty.

Following this, he headed downstairs, intending to take the opportunity to grab a bite to eat.

After all, he had been tailing him for half a day and hadn't eaten yet.

Inside the room, Zhou Luo sat on a chair, waiting quietly.

Bai Zhiyan sat on the edge of the bed, her bright eyes silently watching Zhou Luo, lost in thought.

"Are you hiding from someone?"

Finally, Bai Zhiyan broke the silence.

"Yes," Zhou Luo replied.

Just then, there was a knock at the door.

He went to the door and opened it just a crack.

The waiter from earlier whispered, "Master, that person has left."

It turned out that when he had booked the room, he had secretly reached an agreement with the waiter to keep an eye on the person who was tailing him.

The waiter did not know that the other person was also a Family disciple; he only knew of Zhou Luo's Family status, so he had naturally agreed without daring to question it.

Now, as soon as he saw that person leave the eighth floor, he had immediately run over to report it.

After confirming this, Zhou Luo returned to the room and began to change his clothes.

Seeing this, Bai Zhiyan's cheeks flushed slightly, and she turned her head away.

After changing into a black robe, Zhou Luo instructed, "If anyone knocks on the door looking for me later, just say that I am asleep."

With that, he opened the door and slipped away.

Bai Zhiyan leaned against the headboard, muttering to herself, "What a strange person."
