Chapter 105 Microsoft's monopoly has lasted too long; let's build a computer and play around with it.

The roar of the Lenovo president in the Yanjing building didn't even drift across the Yellow River.

In the core laboratory on the first underground level of Xinghai in Donghai City.

The air conditioner was puffing out white mist with a roar, and the temperature had been set below twenty degrees.

The anti-static floor was covered with all kinds of metal shavings and plastic casings.

It looked exactly like a scrapyard that had just been ransacked.

Xia Weiliang was crouching on a large stainless steel workbench.

She was barefoot, her toes unconsciously clawing at the icy surface of the table.

That yellowing, dirty lab coat was draped loosely over her body.

Her bird's nest of hair was as messy as if she had been struck by lightning.

She had a strawberry-flavored lollipop dangling from her mouth.

The little plastic stick bobbed back and forth with her breathing.

She clutched a screwdriver in her hand, aiming at the back cover of the latest flagship Lenovo gaming laptop on the market.

With a crisp "crack" sound.

The plastic clasp was forcibly pried open by her and flew off, slamming against the wall.

Xia Weiliang's movements were rough.

She didn't care about the cable layout at all.

Her fingers pinched the thick power cord connected to the cooling fan.

And she gave it a violent tug.

The sound of the copper wires snapping was enough to make one's teeth ache.

The cooling module with its heavy copper pipes was thrown directly onto the floor by her.

It emitted a dull thud.

Besides Lenovo, her feet were piled with Dell Alienware and HP Omen laptops.

All of them were top-tier laptops that cost tens of thousands on the market.

Now, they had all turned into electronic garbage on the floor, emitting a burnt smell.

"What kind of trash is this?"

Xia Weiliang mumbled indistinctly.

She poked at the exposed motherboard with her screwdriver.

"To suppress the heat of this chip, they forcibly crammed in three heat-conducting copper pipes thicker than a finger."

The laboratory's automatic door sensed them and slid open.

Lu Jingming walked in, hands stuffed into the pockets of his faded jeans.

Chu Xuan followed behind him.

He was wearing a blue floral shirt today, and his center-parted hair was combed to a shine.

As soon as he entered, Chu Xuan's eyes widened.

He watched as over a hundred thousand dollars worth of flagship laptops on the floor had turned into spare parts.

His Adam's apple bobbed with difficulty, and his throat felt parched.

"Oh my goodness, my dear lady!"

Chu Xuan hurriedly fished out a crumpled tissue from his pocket and wiped the oily sweat seeping from his forehead.

"These were all bought at full price with the US dollars from our account!"

He stamped his feet in distress, "You can dismantle them, but at least leave the bodies intact! How did you even manage to pull the CPU pins off?"

Xia Weiliang rolled her eyes dramatically.

She didn't even have the interest to acknowledge him.

Lu Jingming stepped forward.

His old sneakers stepped on a black plastic baffle, making a "crunch" sound.

He bent down.

From that pile of scrap metal, he pinched a broken Intel X86 Architecture processor between two fingers.

Dried thermal paste remained on the silver-gray metal lid.

Lu Jingming held the chip up to his eyes and examined it for two seconds.

The corners of his mouth slowly curled into a mocking arc, revealing half of his stark white canine tooth.

"Intel and Microsoft have been squeezing toothpaste out of this broken brick for a full decade."

He rubbed off the layer of dried thermal paste with his fingertip.

"The power consumption is as high as a drafty furnace. As soon as you turn it on, the fan runs like a tractor."

Lu Jingming flipped his wrist and tossed the chip directly into the trash can nearby.

With a crisp "clatter."

"X86 Architecture is just an morbidly obese patient."

Lu Jingming turned around and pulled up a swivel chair to sit down.

"Relying on the software ecosystem moat they built early on, they make the whole world endure this kind of bulky, power-hungry industrial trash."

He fished out a green plastic lighter from his pants pocket.

His thumb pressed down on the flint wheel.

With a "click."

A deep blue flame flared up, illuminating the undisguised ambition in his eyes.

"The monopoly has lasted too long. These foreigners really think the Earth won't spin without them."

Chu Xuan swallowed, his legs feeling a bit weak.

He stepped two paces closer to Lu Jingming.

"Lu, Boss Lu."

Chu Xuan stammered, "That may be true. But we can't wade across this moat."

He pointed to the wreckage on the floor.

"Although these computers are bulky, they can run Adobe, they can handle large-scale rendering, and they can run tens of millions of office software programs!"

Chu Xuan waved his arms in anxiety.

"If we use ARM architecture chips designed for phones to build computers..."

He held his head in his hands, "Isn't that like using a motorcycle engine to pull a heavy truck? It would crash immediately upon starting!"

Lu Jingming tossed the lighter onto the table.

The plastic casing hit the stainless steel; the sound wasn't loud, but it carried a sense of oppression.

"Who told you that ARM definitely can't pull a truck?"

Lu Jingming leaned back against the chair.

"Xia Weiliang, explain the underlying logic of Xinghai to him."

Xia Weiliang bit down on the lollipop in her mouth with a crunch.

Swallowing the candy, she wiped the sugar frost from the corner of her mouth with the back of her hand.

"The Americans' X86 instruction set is indeed complex, but that doesn't mean it's advanced."

She jumped down from the workbench barefoot.

The hem of her lab coat swept across the pile of scattered cooling fans.

"As long as the computing power is strong enough, combined with our Xinghai OS's Pandora underlying protocol."

Xia Weiliang walked up to Chu Xuan and stared straight at him.

"I can completely create a translation layer directly at the system level."

Chu Xuan listened, completely confused, his eyes blinking rapidly.

"What translation layer? Like translation software?"

"You're hopeless." Xia Weiliang pouted in disgust.

"It means using software to crush X86's complex instructions into simple instructions that ARM can understand on the spot!"

She snapped her fingers.

"And forcefully swallow their tens of millions of applications!"

Chu Xuan opened his mouth, and his dentures nearly fell out.

Although he didn't understand the specific technology, he still had common sense.

"This doesn't follow the laws of physics!"

Chu Xuan's voice cracked, like a duck with its neck stepped on.

"Translation consumes a huge amount of computing power! The overhead would take up at least half the performance!"

He slapped his thighs in anxiety, "By the time it finishes translating, the computer would have already lagged into a slideshow!"

Lu Jingming didn't speak; his gaze landed on Xia Weiliang.

Only the whistling of the air conditioner remained in the laboratory.

Xia Weiliang turned around.

She walked to the workbench and picked up the Phillips screwdriver stained with thermal paste from earlier.

"Clang, clang, clang."

The screwdriver handle tapped against the motherboard of another Xinghai prototype with its casing stripped off.

It was a clean PCB board.

There were no thick copper pipes.

There were no noisy fans.

A thin layer of graphene cooling film was stuck to the surface of the chip.

It was as quiet as a dead lump of metal.

"If someone else did it, the overhead would indeed take up half."

Xia Weiliang spat out the remaining plastic stick of the lollipop from her mouth.

The little plastic stick landed on the floor and bounced twice.

It rolled over to the side of Chu Xuan's leather shoes.

A layer of almost pathological, fanatical red bloodshot appeared in her eyes.

"But who am I?"

Xia Weiliang kicked the hot motherboard with her toe.

"I rewrote the scheduling logic at the Pandora layer. I can suppress the instruction set translation overhead to three percent."

She turned her head, her gaze meeting Lu Jingming's deep eyes.

"This means we can build a monster that is as thin as a blade, requires no fan, and has a full day of battery life."

The screwdriver in her hand gestured in the air twice.

The tip of the screwdriver pointed in Lu Jingming's direction.

"But Boss Lu."

Xia Weiliang tugged at her messy bird's nest of hair, her voice dropping very low.

"Once this kind of cross-architecture dimensionality reduction strike is released."

She snorted coldly, stepping on the plastic stick with her bare foot.

"If this thing is released, the ancestral graves of the Microsoft headquarters will be smoking. Can you handle the heat?"

Lu Jingming picked up the plastic lighter on the table again.

His thumb pressed nonchalantly on the flint wheel.

With a "click," the flame sprang up.

The firelight illuminated half of his cheek, and his canine tooth flashed with a cold, white light.

"What's a little smoke from ancestral graves?"

Lu Jingming stared at the flickering deep blue flame without even blinking.

"Go notify Lenovo and Microsoft."

He snapped the lighter shut, and the flame was instantly extinguished.

"By the way, send a message to Gates and tell him to go pick out a burial plot with good feng shui right now."
