Chapter 61 Overseas Wall Street Capitals Are in a Hurry, Shorting Xinghai Technology
Soros slammed his wine glass onto the marble tabletop.
The crisp sound of the impact echoed through the spacious office.
He picked up the encrypted landline on the desk and skillfully dialed an overseas conference number.
"Gentlemen, the prey has entered the arena; it's time to eat."
Soros's voice was low and hoarse, reeking of a thick, bloody scent.
On the other end of the line, a dozen low laughs drifted through.
These were the heads of the top short-selling firms on Wall Street, holding capital capable of destroying the economy of a small nation.
Usually, they tore at each other, but today, they had formed an alliance for the same piece of succulent Eastern meat.
"George, are you sure Xinghai's capital chain isn't that robust?" a raspy voice asked.
Soros loosened his tie and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window.
"They've dumped money into hundreds of direct-sale stores in North America, and their inventory levels are astonishingly high."
He let out a cold laugh, his blue eyes gleaming with the glint of a vulture.
"They've taken too big a step; their cash flow is definitely stretched thin. What do those Chinese people know about risk management?"
He turned around and gestured to his assistant.
"Smash through the foundation of their overseas suppliers and force them to cough up cash to put out the fire!"
"I want to watch that brat Lu Jingming kneel on Wall Street and beg for mercy!"
At Soros's command.
The financial meat grinder of Wall Street began to rumble into motion.
As soon as the New York Stock Exchange opened.
Several tech stocks that had been trending steadily suddenly faced massive sell orders, driving the price down.
In California, North America, the president's office of Baker Microelectronics.
Mr. Baker had just picked up his hot coffee when he heard a shrill scream from the traders outside.
"Boss! Our stock price is diving!"
The trader scrambled in, crashing through the door, his face as white as a sheet.
"It's down fifteen percent in one minute! And it's still falling!"
Mr. Baker's hand shook, and the scalding coffee spilled onto his trousers, but he didn't even have time to cry out from the burn.
He lunged for the computer, staring at the straight green K-line plummeting downward, his heart skipping a beat.
This wasn't normal market fluctuation.
This was someone maliciously shorting the stock, trying to send them straight to the grave!
"Who did this?! Go find out!" Mr. Baker roared, pounding on the desk.
The trader hammered away at the keyboard, sweating profusely.
"I can't find the source! It's over a dozen offshore funds dumping shares simultaneously; the sell orders are like a waterfall!"
Mr. Baker collapsed into his chair, his face ashen.
Just then, his private phone rang.
An acquaintance on Wall Street lowered his voice and told him that Soros had set his sights on Xinghai Technology.
"Mr. Baker, you took a big order from Xinghai, and Soros wants to use you as a sacrifice."
The voice on the other end was filled with pity.
"If you want to survive, hurry and get the final payment from Xinghai, and use the cash to defend your stock price. Otherwise, you'll be filing for bankruptcy protection tomorrow!"
Mr. Baker hung up the phone, as if grasping at the last straw for survival.
"Connect me to Donghai City immediately! Get the finance department of Xinghai Technology and demand payment!"
By this time, it was completely dark outside.
Inside the Xinghai Technology building in Donghai City, however, the lights were blazing.
The marketing department was in complete chaos; phones rang incessantly, creating a headache-inducing din.
Chu Xuan held two landline receivers, struggling to juggle them.
"No! No money now! According to the contract, the payment isn't due until next month!"
He shouted furiously into the phone in broken, fragmented English.
"Do you have any respect for the contract? You know you have to pay a penalty for breach of contract!"
The foreigner on the other end didn't listen at all, shouted a bunch of gibberish, and hung up directly.
Chu Xuan was so angry he slammed the receiver down onto the desk.
"Have these foreigners gone crazy?!"
He loosened his tie, his center-parted hair a messy bird's nest.
"Seven foundries in a row have called to pressure us, and their tone is more aggressive than the mob!"
Old Li walked over, hugging a thermos cup, looking distressed.
"Brother Chu, what happened? Are they stopping our supplies?"
Chu Xuan pulled at his hair in frustration.
"It's worse than cutting off supplies! They want money!"
He swallowed hard, his eyes full of panic.
"They said if we don't pay the remaining balance in USD tonight, all production lines in North America and Europe will shut down tomorrow!"
Just as he finished speaking, Shen Qingqiu walked quickly down the corridor in her high heels.
Her face was deathly pale, and she clutched a stack of freshly printed payment notices.
Her eyes behind her gold-rimmed glasses were bloodshot, clearly having just finished monitoring the market data.
"It's not that they want to breach the contract; it's Wall Street stabbing us in the back."
Shen Qingqiu slammed the payment notices onto Chu Xuan's desk, her voice chilling.
"Soros is leading a short-selling campaign, smashing the stock prices of these foundries."
She took a deep breath, her chest heaving slightly.
"They desperately need USD to save themselves, so they have no choice but to break ties with us and demand the money."
Chu Xuan gasped, feeling a chill run down his spine.
"That's a devious move! Since Soros can't short us because we aren't listed, he's going after our partners?"
He wiped his sweat, "President Shen, how much USD foreign exchange do we have in our accounts?"
Shen Qingqiu shook her head and bit her lower lip.
"It takes time to convert and transfer domestic RMB, and our USD reserves in our overseas accounts aren't enough to fill this hole."
Without another word, she grabbed the payment notices and turned to head straight for the top-floor president's office.
The corridor was quiet.
Shen Qingqiu didn't even knock; she pushed open the solid wood double doors with a "bang."
Lu Jingming wasn't wearing a suit; he was wearing a loose black T-shirt.
He was curled up in the leather sofa, holding that xinghai pro horizontally, his thumb swiping frantically across the screen.
From the phone's speaker, the "slice" sounds of cutting watermelons and the sound effects of juice splashing kept playing.
"What time do you think it is, and you're still slicing watermelons!"
Shen Qingqiu walked to the coffee table in her high heels and slammed those breach-of-contract notices in front of Lu Jingming.
Lu Jingming didn't look up, his finger drawing a silver blade of light across the screen.
"Record broken."
He tossed the phone aside and took a sip of the cold tea on the table.
"What's the rush? If the sky falls, I'll hold it up."
"The sky has already fallen!"
Shen Qingqiu braced her hands on the coffee table, staring fixedly at him.
"Soros is putting the squeeze on Wall Street! Over a dozen institutions are shorting our overseas suppliers!"
Her eyes were red, and her voice was strained.
"Now seven overseas foundries are jointly pressuring us, demanding immediate settlement of the final payment."
"Lu Jingming, if we can't raise three billion USD and wire it over by tomorrow, our overseas production lines will be completely ruined!"
After hearing this staggering figure, Lu Jingming didn't even twitch an eyebrow.
He reached out, picked up the stack of payment notices, and flipped through them casually.
"Three billion USD."
He tossed the files back onto the table, a mocking smile curling at the corner of his lips.
"That old geezer Soros certainly has a big appetite. He wants to use this move to choke my cash flow?"
Shen Qingqiu looked at his nonchalant attitude and stamped her feet in anxiety.
"You can still laugh? Three billion USD! Where are we going to get that much foreign exchange?!"
She gasped for air, "If the production lines are ruined, those foreigners who pre-ordered online will definitely spam our official website until it crashes!"
Lu Jingming stood up, walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, and looked down at the night view of Donghai City.
Neon lights flickered, reflecting an even sharper glint in his eyes.
He pulled a plastic lighter from his pocket and lit it with a "click."
The faint flame reflected his devious silhouette on the glass window.
Lu Jingming turned his head to look at the anxious Shen Qingqiu.
"Who said we don't have money?"
He blew out the lighter, his tone filled with an unreasonable arrogance.
Shen Qingqiu was stunned, completely confused.
"Where would you get the USD? Even bank loans aren't that fast."
Lu Jingming put his hands in his pockets and walked slowly toward her.
"Go make a cup of coffee to refresh yourself."
He stopped in front of Shen Qingqiu, smiling like a hunter preparing to close the net.
"Don't sleep tonight."
Lu Jingming tapped the files on the coffee table, his eyes cold as ice.
"Join me in teaching these Wall Street vampires what a true dimensionality reduction strike is."
Shen Qingqiu's heart skipped a beat.
"What exactly are you planning to do?"
Lu Jingming raised an eyebrow.
"Doesn't Soros like to short stocks?"
"Then we'll take the money and blow his nest sky-high."
