34: Find fault, people from two different worlds

Evening.

After Jiang Yan handed in today's two mission tokens, he locked himself in his room.

Zhu Qi and the others were already used to this; after all, for more than half a month, Jiang Yan had been like this, rarely even speaking to them.

"Do you think he can become an Elite Disciple?" Li Chenggang asked curiously.

"Probably, since he's a Closed-Door Disciple," Cai Qiang replied casually.

"It's not that easy to become an Elite Disciple; first, you have to break into the top hundred, and then you have to withstand countless challenges from later Disciples," Zhu Qi reminded them.

"Sigh, in this life, we'll probably only ever be ordinary Outer Sect Disciples," Geng Ye sighed resignedly.

The three nodded in unison; they strongly agreed with this statement, as they didn't even have a Master's lineage yet.

Jiang Yan was unaware of the conversation between the four outer Sect members; he was currently preparing to spend his lifespan to improve his cultivation and Cultivation Techniques.

Just then, there was a soft knock on the door.

Jiang Yan knew for sure it wasn't Zhu Qi and the other three; after all, they understood him well enough.

As he pushed open the door, two unexpected people were standing before him.

"Is Junior Brother Jiang doing well?"

"Long time no see, Junior Brother Jiang."

Seeing Li Chunsheng and Yan Jun, the corners of Jiang Yan's mouth curled up involuntarily.

"May I ask, what business do you two have with me?"

He did not address them as Senior Brothers; in his view, they "indeed" no longer belonged to the same world.

Although they were all Outer Sect Disciples, his strength far surpassed theirs, and Li Yi had told him that no one in the outer Sect was worthy of calling him "Junior Brother," and no one would dare touch him because he was Li Yi's Disciple.

Although Jiang Yan didn't understand the weight of those words, since his Revered Master had said so, he had to show off a bit today.

"Jiang Yan, how can you speak like that? No matter what, we were the ones who brought you in," Yan Jun said provocatively.

"Jiang Yan, we came this time because we want to make peace with you. As for Ruyan's matter..."

Before Li Chunsheng could finish, Jiang Yan immediately waved his hand to interrupt, "You two, if it's about this matter, please leave. Forgive me for not seeing you out."

The moment they opened their mouths, he guessed what kind of nonsense they were going to spout and understood exactly what they wanted.

As for bringing him into the Immortal Sect?

The one he should thank was Liu Ruyan. As for how to repay her kindness, he had already sent someone to deliver a hundred Spirit Stones and a Storage Pouch to her.

"Jiang Yan, show some respect. You should know that a debt of gratitude can't be settled with just a few Spirit Stones," Yan Jun snapped immediately.

"Oh? I wonder, what else do you want?" Jiang Yan smiled playfully.

Yan Jun smiled smugly, "I heard you're Li Yi's Closed-Door Disciple, so you must have more resources than we do. How about this: give us a thousand Spirit Stones and a few Magic Treasures."

"Is this your intention too?" Jiang Yan looked at Li Chunsheng.

Li Chunsheng quickly shook his head, "I only came to make peace with you. As for Liu Ruyan, I think we should sit down and talk."

Seeing Li Chunsheng say this, Yan Jun grew anxious and pulled at him, "Senior Brother, what are you doing? He owes us! If we hadn't gone out and brought him back, he'd still be just a farmer for the rest of his life."

"Enough!" Li Chunsheng barked angrily. "Was he really brought back by you? If Junior Sister Ruyan hadn't pleaded and Senior Martial Uncle Yu hadn't agreed, could you have brought him back?"

Li Chunsheng didn't care what Yan Jun thought; he simply exposed the truth, as he knew far more than Yan Jun did.

The reason he let Yan Jun tag along was to make him realize that no one among the Outer Sect Disciples could afford to provoke the current Jiang Yan.

But Yan Jun didn't think that way at all, which disappointed him.

"Senior Brother, what's wrong with you?" Yan Jun was completely baffled. He glanced at Jiang Yan and seemed to realize something. "Senior Brother, tell me, does he have some kind of leverage over you?"

*Slap!*

The moment Yan Jun finished speaking, Li Chunsheng slapped him across the face.

"Li Chunsheng! You dare hit me!" Yan Jun roared in fury.

"I'm hitting you to teach you a lesson!" Li Chunsheng glared at Yan Jun.

Jiang Yan was speechless. He hadn't even made a move yet, and they were already at each other's throats.

"If you two want to fight, go ahead, but don't do it at my doorstep. I don't want the Hall of Discipline to come by and think I was the one who did it."

Hearing Jiang Yan's mocking words, Yan Jun truly lost his temper. He drew his longsword and pointed it at Jiang Yan, "You, Jiang! Do you dare to sign a life-and-death duel with me?"

Within the Qingyun Sect, although fellow Disciples were forbidden from killing each other, the Life-and-Death Arena was an exception.

The Sect had considered that if two Disciples harbored deep resentment to the point of being irreconcilable, they could sign for a Life-and-Death Arena match.

After all, once the agreement was signed, only one of the two would walk away alive.

Not only would the survivor not be held accountable by the Sect, but the Revered Master of the deceased party would even have to acknowledge it was their own Disciple's fault.

However, in the last fifty years, no one in the Qingyun Sect had actually gone to the Life-and-Death Arena; after all, people really did die there.

"Are you sure?" Jiang Yan asked with a smile.

Just as Yan Jun was about to confirm, Li Chunsheng immediately stopped him, "Yan Jun, if you want to die, don't drag Revered Master down with you! You're just a Qi Refining Level Two piece of trash who doesn't even dare to take missions in the middle region of Spirit Beast Peak. How dare you challenge Junior Brother Jiang to a Life-and-Death Arena match!"

Yan Jun froze; he seemed to realize something at that moment.

Looking at Jiang Yan's playful expression, he couldn't believe it was actually true.

"No, impossible! He just entered the outer Sect, how could he be stronger than me!" Yan Jun denied repeatedly.

Seeing that Yan Jun was losing his composure, Li Chunsheng threw a punch and knocked him unconscious.

"I'm sorry, Junior Brother Jiang. This was poorly thought out on my part," Li Chunsheng quickly bowed and apologized.

"Oh well, you've saved his life, and you've saved your own as well," Jiang Yan said nonchalantly.

Hearing Jiang Yan's words, sweat broke out on Li Chunsheng's forehead. He didn't think Jiang Yan was boasting, because the missions Jiang Yan had submitted at the Mission Hall today had shocked everyone present.

Being able to kill Spirit Beasts in the middle region of Spirit Beast Peak alone could only mean that the other party had reached at least Qi Refining Level Three, or perhaps even higher.

Such Disciples, without exception, were all Outer Sect Elite Disciples.

And he, Li Chunsheng, only had the potential to become an Outer Sect Elite Disciple.

"Yes, Junior Brother Jiang is right," Li Chunsheng admitted, then asked, "I wonder if Junior Brother Jiang would allow us to sit down and talk? I'm sure there must be some misunderstanding."

"There's no misunderstanding; from the moment I entered the Immortal Sect, any misunderstanding was cleared up," Jiang Yan waved his hand dismissively. "As for Liu Ruyan, she's yours. My connection with her was severed long ago."

Hearing this, Li Chunsheng still had some doubts and quickly followed up, "Then why did Junior Brother send Ruyan so many Spirit Stones and a storage treasure?"

Hearing Li Chunsheng's question, Jiang Yan understood what these people were fantasizing about.

"It's just a misunderstanding!" Jiang Yan emphasized his tone. "Like your foolish Junior Brother said, I only did it to thank Liu Ruyan for bringing me into the Immortal Sect. So, from the moment she received those things, she and I have been people from two different worlds."

After hearing Jiang Yan's words, Li Chunsheng finally understood and hurriedly bowed respectfully, "Thank you for your magnanimity, Junior Brother Jiang. My doubts are resolved. I wish you a boundless immortal path."

"Boundless, sure," Jiang Yan waved his hand casually and turned to close the door.

But before the door could close, a familiar female voice called out from a distance.

"Jiang Yan, wait."

Hearing Liu Ruyan's voice, Jiang Yan felt a chill run down his spine, as if he had seen something unclean.

"Senior Brother Li, you explain it to that... thing of yours."

After speaking, Jiang Yan slammed the door shut, fearing that if he were too slow, that "thing" would get in.

"Jiang Yan, why don't you want to see me?" Liu Ruyan looked at Jiang Yan's door resentfully. "I know you still have feelings for me. You sent those things, so surely..."

"Enough, Junior Sister!" Li Chunsheng really couldn't listen anymore and interrupted immediately. "Junior Sister, the things he gave you were only to thank you for bringing him into the Immortal Sect. He doesn't even want to see us. And given who he is now, we truly might be people from two different worlds!"

Li Chunsheng found it ironic; three months ago, they were the ones who had told Jiang Yan to his face, "We and you are people from two different worlds!"

"How is that possible? Why is he so heartless? I'm his..."

*Slap!*

Before Liu Ruyan could finish, Li Chunsheng slapped her. "Enough! If you don't want to embarrass yourself or be expelled from the Sect by Revered Master, then keep making a scene!"

As Li Chunsheng hoisted Yan Jun onto his shoulder, he paused and spoke with his back to Liu Ruyan, "You have already stepped into the Qi Refining Realm. If you really don't want to be disgraced, then use your strength to prove yourself."
