60: Repairing the house, changing the attributes of the Soul-Suppressing Talisman

When Jiang Yan returned to the small courtyard, Fang Wanrou was already standing inside.

Seeing the remains of the Evil Spirits scattered on the ground outside the courtyard, Fang Wanrou's face showed a look of shock.

She had imagined many battle scenes and envisioned many Evil Spirits being killed, but she never expected so many to die in one night.

"Just in time to clean up the remains; we can hand them in for the mission when we return to the Sect," Jiang Yan reminded her.

"Senior Brother Su, is this okay?" Fang Wanrou's expression was slightly worried, and her voice dropped a few notches. "These are the mission points for those Qingyun Sect Disciples. Is it really alright for us to take them like this?"

One should know that almost every Sect awards points based on mission completion.

If it were a mission to kill a single cultivator, one would only need to bring back the head or a storage token to complete the task.

For a mission like hunting Evil Spirits in Xuan Yin Mountain, where there are no specific requirements, points are exchanged based on the remains brought back. The more one brings back, the more Sect mission points are rewarded.

Therefore, almost no one would refuse these remains; after all, they could be exchanged for treasures and cultivation resources.

Jiang Yan waved his hand. "Don't worry, they said these are all for us."

Hearing this, although Fang Wanrou was worried, she was still somewhat secretly delighted to see so many remains.

Jiang Yan didn't pay attention to Fang Wanrou's expression. He needed to reinforce the courtyard's outer walls now; after last night's battle, several sections had collapsed.

When Jiang Yan appeared pushing a battered small handcart, Fang Wanrou's expression was very shocked.

"Senior Brother Su, what are you doing?"

"Rebuilding the low wall of the outer courtyard," Jiang Yan said as he unloaded the mud from the handcart. "If you're done picking up the remains, go gather some stones for me from the collapsed walls nearby."

"Oh, okay," Fang Wanrou nodded in response.

She originally wanted to ask some questions, but seeing that Jiang Yan had already started working, she could only swallow her words.

Jiang Yan was definitely an expert at mixing mud and laying walls. By noon, he had not only reinforced the low wall but also made it a bit taller.

Seeing the neat outer wall, Fang Wanrou was very surprised.

"Senior Brother Su, you're really amazing," Fang Wanrou praised.

But in her heart, she thought, "If only Su Chen could be like him, that would be even better."

Jiang Yan smiled without saying anything. After washing his hands, he glanced at the sky. "In a bit, go to the surrounding abandoned farmhouses and find some things to burn. Pile up firewood and such at the base of the outer wall."

"Why pile them at the base of the outer wall?" Fang Wanrou asked, puzzled.

"It looks like it's going to rain. If the mud gets wet before it air-dries, the wall will have been built for nothing. So, we need to bake the outer layer of mud dry," Jiang Yan explained.

"Okay, I'll go right now," Fang Wanrou said and ran outside.

Jiang Yan wasn't idling either. He was currently considering how to patch the gaps in the roof. A light drizzle would be one thing, but if there was a heavy downpour, the night would be a disaster.

Seeing that there was still plenty of thin mud left, Jiang Yan added a few handfuls of weeds. Once the mud and weeds were mixed, he found some relatively large wooden boards in the deserted village.

Although this method wasn't a long-term solution, it would be perfectly fine for preventing a heavy rainstorm. Besides, he didn't plan on staying here for long anyway.

Once he leveled up again or plundered forty to fifty thousand years of lifespan, he would return to the Sect.

Seeing Su Chen repairing the house so well, Fang Wanrou immediately put on a demure act.

"Senior Brother Su Chen is really handsome."

Jiang Yan, who had extremely keen hearing, almost fell off the roof when he heard this praise.

"Good grief, what's wrong with Fang Wanrou? If this were modern times, she'd probably be a brainless fangirl."

Jiang Yan took a deep breath and stopped thinking about nonsense; he didn't have time for this right now.

As he repaired the roof, Fang Wanrou piled weeds and wood against the outer wall.

"Senior Brother Su, I've piled everything up just as you asked," Fang Wanrou called out in her demure manner.

Without even turning his head, Jiang Yan said directly, "Then light it."

Seeing that Su Chen didn't even turn to look at her, Fang Wanrou's face immediately darkened. Her self-indulgent expression instantly turned into a simple "Mhm."

The sun set in the west, and a cold wind blew through the courtyard.

Clouds gradually gathered in the sky, and white figures began to appear around the Xuan Yin Mountain Range.

"It's a good thing I prepared, otherwise, I'm afraid tonight would be hard to handle."

Jiang Yan watched the clouds change; they had now turned into dark storm clouds. He glanced toward the Xuan Yin Mountain Range, where the White Shadow Demons were forming ranks.

"Remember what I said, no one is going to help us tonight," Jiang Yan turned and warned.

"Senior Brother Su, be careful. If you don't want to..."

Fang Wanrou stopped halfway, unable to continue. She looked at Jiang Yan, pretending to be weak.

She was very worried about her own safety now. As for picking up evil spirit remains, that was an afterthought; after all, one had to be alive to get cultivation resources.

Jiang Yan didn't know what Fang Wanrou was imagining now, so he simply said with a smile, "Don't worry, those people gave me quite a few Talismans before they left. As long as no particularly special Evil Spirits appear, there shouldn't be any problem."

Hearing Su Chen say this, Fang Wanrou nodded, pretending to be at ease.

As Fang Wanrou went back inside, Jiang Yan quickly formed hand seals, and the Talismans on the doors and windows were instantly activated.

Lightning flashed in the sky, and as the first raindrops fell, the battle of the night began.

The pack of White Shadow Demons quickly entered the deserted village, numbering at least three hundred.

Jiang Yan flipped his left hand, and a stack of soul suppressing talismans instantly appeared in his palm.

Pushing off the ground with his left foot, Jiang Yan leaped out of the small courtyard and struck a White Shadow Demon with a soul suppressing talisman.

As the raindrops fell, the soul suppressing talisman seemed affected, fluttering several times before finally sticking to the White Shadow Demon's body.

"This won't do. The rain is getting heavier, and it's affecting the soul suppressing talisman's performance too much. It looks like I'll have to use that move!"

Jiang Yan frowned slightly. Seeing the rain intensify, the soul suppressing talisman became soft and powerless, its runes blurred by the water.

He made a prompt decision, forming a seal with his right hand and chanting under his breath: "Heaven clear, Earth bright, borrow fire to swap for Yin!"

In an instant, the remaining soul suppressing talismans in his left hand turned pitch black, even carrying a hint of chilling cold. They spontaneously ignited without wind, turning into dozens of clusters of ghostly green flames floating in the air.

The rain hitting the fireballs failed to extinguish them; instead, it made them look even more bewitching.

If Li Yi were present, he would surely be shocked by Jiang Yan's technique.

Because the Yin Talisman Theory proposed by Li Yi had actually been realized by Jiang Yan, and the incantations and finger movements were different.

Originally, Li Yi wanted to create a unique method to change the attributes of Talismans. After all, when he was in extremely Yin lands before, the effects of those Talismans were quite poor.

After suppressing Evil Spirits tens of thousands of times, Li Yi suddenly realized a theory: borrowing the power of Yin cold to transform the Talisman's attributes.

He had originally seen hope, as he had succeeded once before. Unfortunately, it lasted too short a time, so he thought the finger movements and incantations didn't match.

Because of what happened later, Li Yi lost hope and stopped touching such things.

As for why Jiang Yan could perfectly change the Talisman's attributes, it was the result of his bored attempts on the road after leaving the Sect.

Since he wanted to change the Talisman's attributes, he naturally had to borrow from the Spiritual Qi of Heaven and Earth.

Taiji is divided into Yin and Yang, so he treated his own body as Taiji, transforming the Yang-attribute Spiritual Qi into Yin-attribute Spiritual Qi.

With this bold attempt and hypothesis, he quickly integrated Li Yi's theory into reality.

At first, he felt there was no need to do this, but now he had to change his strategy. Since the rain was Yin-attributed and suppressed the Yang-attribute soul suppressing talisman, this scene unfolded.

"Go!"

Jiang Yan gave a low shout, and the ghostly green flames shot out like meteors, accurately hitting the pouncing pack of White Shadow Demons.

The White Shadow Demons hit by the ghostly green fire Talismans didn't let out any shrieks. Instead, strangely, their bodies began to expand rapidly, like a balloon suddenly filled with a massive amount of gas, eventually bursting and dissipating into clouds of black smoke.

"Nice! They really were blown apart!"

Watching a group of White Shadow Demons get blown apart, Jiang Yan decisively took out another stack of soul suppressing talismans.

As the yellow Talismans gradually turned black, a wicked smile appeared on the corner of his mouth.
