8: Chapter 8: Choose One of Four Options – Internship Benefits and Development
Not long after, when the siblings finished their delayed lunch, a knock came from outside the door.
Li Meng hurriedly went to open the door.
Supervisor Song had arrived.
He was carrying a fruit basket and some nutritional supplements. The moment he entered, he saw the person lying on the hospital bed. A look of understanding flashed in his eyes, and he secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
Before coming, he had been worried that the terrible experience during the interview might make Li Yu resistant, causing him to also reject Bright Moon Company.
Now, he felt slightly more at ease.
Although he didn't know Li Yu's attitude, judging by his behavior, clothing, and the situation in the hospital bed, his family was short on money.
In that case, the matter was already half successful before it even began.
Thinking of this, Supervisor Song put on a warm smile and placed the fruit basket and nutritional supplements by the bedside.
"Little brother, we meet again."
"You've gone to too much trouble."
"It's not worth much, just a small token of my appreciation. Um... this is..." Supervisor Song looked at Li Meng, then looked at the hospital bed.
Li Yu provided a brief introduction.
Li Meng, however, looked impatient and asked cautiously, "Supervisor Song, did you mean on the phone that my brother passed without an interview?"
Her small hands were clenched tightly in nervousness.
"Yes, yes! Look at my brain," Supervisor Song grinned. "Your brother was amazing today. At our company, he bred an s-rank new species of beast, which even shocked the Presidents Office."
"An s-rank new species!" Li Meng's eyes went round, and she looked at her brother in disbelief. "Brother, is that true?"
"Yes, it just happens to be my specialty," Li Yu smiled.
Receiving a definitive answer, a sense of pride welled up in Li Meng's heart.
She knew her brother worked hard, but she had never seen him breed anything, nor had she heard of him having any outstanding achievements.
She hadn't expected her brother to be so quiet and yet pull off such a big move!
Although she wasn't a Breeder, she was studying beast-taming and knew how difficult it was to breed a new species nowadays.
Not to mention an s-rank top-tier beast!
"Hey! I thought the little sister knew." Supervisor Song grinned and looked at Li Yu. "Li Yu, I'm inviting you to join Bright Moon Company, in my department. I wonder if you're interested?"
Li Meng hurriedly brought over a chair for Supervisor Song to sit on and brought him a glass of water.
Supervisor Song smiled and accepted it.
Li Yu asked, "What about the benefits?"
"Start as an Intern. Once there's a certification exam, I'll help you become a regular employee. The base salary during the internship is 7,000, and you can get a 20% commission for independently completing a breeding project," Supervisor Song said.
Li Yu raised an eyebrow slightly, a look of surprise flashing in his eyes.
Li Meng was even more shocked, covering her mouth with her eyes wide open.
For an Intern, this salary was not low.
Internships are for practical training. Many jobs that Interns find either offer no salary or only one or two thousand, barely enough to maintain a living.
Even in a large company like Bright Moon Company, the monthly base salary for an Intern was at most five thousand. She hadn't expected this Supervisor Song to offer seven thousand directly.
This wasn't just good; it was Excellent!
With this money, at least their mother's minimum monthly medical expenses would be guaranteed.
"Brother!" Li Meng shouted excitedly.
However, Li Yu shook his head and said, "I don't think this salary plan is suitable."
Supervisor Song frowned, thinking Li Yu felt it was too low. He was about to discuss it with him, but seeing the smile on his face and his calm eyes, he realized it wasn't what he thought and asked, "Why? Where is it not suitable?"
Li Yu said, "As for the base salary, I can lower it, or even forgo it entirely, but I want a 70% commission for independent breeding."
"Brother!" his sister exclaimed. She didn't understand; in her view, a monthly base salary of 7,000 was already very good.
"70%?!" Supervisor Song frowned.
He keenly captured something from Li Yu's words.
Lowering or even giving up the base salary in exchange for a higher breeding commission—there were only two possibilities for someone who would do this.
First, ignorance. Second, confidence.
Whichever it was, it proved Li Yu's high confidence in his own breeding ability—confident enough that, despite his family's dire financial situation, he was still willing to give up a life-saving base salary of 7,000 in exchange for an unstable commission.
Supervisor Song let out a long sigh. He looked at the hospital bed and then at Li Yu, his expression somewhat complex.
"Li Yu, you are... very confident in your own breeding ability."
"Haven't you already seen it?"
"Yes, but as you said, that was your breeding direction when you were in school."
"I was just making that up."
Li Yu shrugged and said candidly, "I know my family's situation. I won't take risks with this. 7,000 is far from enough."
If he agreed to Supervisor Song's terms and took the 7,000 monthly base, his commission would be much less.
His mother's minimum medical expenses would be guaranteed, but it still wasn't enough.
He wanted to provide the best treatment, and in the future, use the best medicine and hire the best doctors to help his mother fully recover.
And all of this required money. A lot of money.
Supervisor Song didn't answer immediately. His gaze flickered, staring intently at Li Yu, trying to see something on his face.
He was more eager than anyone for Li Yu to be someone with real ability. After all, if Li Yu worked under him, they would prosper together and suffer together.
But if he agreed to Li Yu's terms, the difference in benefits between Li Yu and the other Interns would be too great, which would invisibly bring some trouble to him, old Song.
If Li Yu really had the level of skill, it would prove his discerning eye, and both would be happy.
If his skill was lacking, then he, Supervisor Song, would be reprimanded and laughed at by other colleagues, not to mention... Special Assistant Yang was still watching from above.
The ward was quiet, with only the "beep-beep" sound of the monitor ringing. The tense atmosphere made Li Meng unconsciously hold her breath and grab her brother's shoulder.
Suddenly, Supervisor Song's eyes lit up. His round face looked a bit more shrewd as he smiled. "I have a compromise."
"Hm?" The siblings cast puzzled looks at him.
Supervisor Song said, "Tomorrow, I will arrange four beasts. You choose one to breed. I don't require an s-rank, nor a new species. As long as you can breed it successfully and the evolution quality is not lower than d-rank, you pass. At that time, the base salary will remain unchanged, and in addition, I will increase your independent breeding commission to 70%. How about that?"
"What's the difficulty level?"
"It won't exceed Excellent at most."
"Deal!"
Just like that, both sides reached an agreement.
Li Yu looked at the IV bottle hanging over the hospital bed, which was about to run out, and said, "Mengmeng, go call the nurse. The medicine is almost finished."
"Okay!"
After his sister left, the door closed behind her.
"Supervisor Song, can you tell me now?" Li Yu said.
Just now, while they were chatting, Supervisor Song had given him a wink several times, seemingly having something to say that wasn't convenient for his sister to know.
Supervisor Song's face became more serious as he said, "The incident in the interview hall was a serious violation of company regulations. Regarding the handling of Liu Quan, the Presidents Office's intention is to see what you decide."
"What kind of decision?"
"If you forgive Liu Quan, the company will demote him and keep him on; if you do not forgive him, the company will dismiss him according to the regulations."
These words were what Special Assistant Yang had told him before he left.
Li Yu didn't answer but asked instead, "What is Supervisor Song's opinion?"
"I think... you should forgive him," Supervisor Song explained. "Liu Quan relies on his cushy job as a Human Resources Department supervisor and has close ties with many company leaders and executives. If he is fired, the executives won't dare to have any opinions about the Presidents Office, but they might target you. Do you understand?"
Supervisor Song looked at the hospital bed and said earnestly, "You have a sister still in school, and your mother is bedridden. Both sides need money. It's not worth causing yourself such big trouble for a grudge."
"I understand." Li Yu nodded.
Supervisor Song breathed a sigh of relief. The next second, Li Yu changed the subject and said, "However, I do not intend to forgive him."
"Hm? Are you sure?" Supervisor Song asked with a frown.
Li Yu lifted his chin toward the hospital bed and said, "My mother's medicine only lasts until today. Because of Liu Quan's unauthorized operation, I lost my chance to interview and was eliminated. My sister was also almost forced to sell her mental power and soul power... She has an a-rank mental power and is first in her school."
"His insignificant decision almost caused my sister to miss this college entrance exam, and it also almost caused us siblings to lose our mother. Why should I forgive him?"
There were still things Li Yu didn't say.
To some extent, Liu Quan was also a trigger for the original owner's death. The cold ridicule from Liu Quan and those Interns, combined with his mother's medical expenses and his sister having to go do experiments—this series of events led to his death.
Even though Li Yu had transmigrated here and couldn't speak of any deep hatred for Liu Quan, he couldn't just lightly forgive the other party on behalf of the original owner.
Supervisor Song still wanted to persuade him, but Li Yu's attitude was firm, and his sister had called the nurse over. He stopped insisting on this topic, agreed on the time to meet tomorrow, and turned to leave.
After the medicine was changed, Li Yu sent his sister home.
There was only one week left until the college entrance exam, and the hospital environment was prone to distraction. It was better for her to go home and study.
The ward returned to quietness, the clock on the wall ticked, and the monitor's indicator light flashed rhythmically.
"System, how much Breeding Value do I have now?" Li Yu asked silently in his heart.
He didn't really care about the trouble that the feud with Liu Quan would bring.
The background of this world destined the scarcity of the breeding profession, and Li Yu's greatest asset was breeding.
As long as he could continue to breed top-tier beasts, new species, or s-rank, or even rarer beasts.
When that time came, if anyone really wanted to touch him, I'm afraid the Presidents Office that Supervisor Song spoke of would be the first to refuse.
