91: Eyes with Spirit
"That was three days ago. Now, I can try again."
Xu Yinyue covered her face with her hands. A moment later, she removed them, and her eyes shone with an extraordinary brightness, a special spiritual charm radiating outwards.
As if seeing something, Xu Yinyue's eyes widened, and her palms clenched involuntarily.
"What did you see?" Chu Qinhui asked in a deep voice from the side.
"I saw the moon fighting with a painting, and the forest was deeply scarred by their battle. The person in the painting seemed to be severely injured."
She couldn't observe for too long. Suddenly, the spiritual light in Xu Yinyue's eyes dissipated, and she rubbed her head, seemingly with a headache.
Jiang Nian gently pulled her into her embrace.
Chu Qinhui, however, frowned slightly. "Shouldn't you have seen your grandfather? Why are you seeing a scene of high-rank Source Beasts battling now?"
Xu Yinyue shook her head blankly. "I don't know."
As she spoke, she secretly glanced towards the offering table. The illusory shadow she saw last time was leisurely watching them, which made her feel a bit uneasy.
Xu Yinyue didn't know if the Chu Family members were aware of the illusory figure's existence, so she temporarily didn't mention it.
However, Chu Mu, who was observing them carefully, noticed that Xu Yinyue's eyes kept secretly falling on him, as if she was looking at him.
He was startled, and the thought that this little girl could see him crossed his mind. Did these lively eyes have such a function?
One must know that even Chu Family members who had signed a contract could only see him within that special space.
To test whether the little girl could truly see him, Chu Mu waved his hand in her direction.
He successfully saw the little girl's face and body stiffen. With just this one action, Chu Mu confirmed his guess.
Chu Qinhui sighed softly. Although the little girl's performance just now was somewhat mysterious, the scene she described seeing lacked logic, making him unsure whether to believe her words.
Chu Qinhui looked at Jiang Nian and was about to say something when a thread appeared from the offering table behind him, wrapping around his glabella and freezing him in place.
Seeing this, Xu Yinyue shivered. Did that illusory figure discover that she could see him, thus violating some rule, and now the ghost was going to kill them?
The little girl was terrified, but Jiang Nian had seen such a scene before. She immediately realized that Ancestor Chu had summoned her husband's consciousness, so she wasn't panicked. Her only thought was what urgent matter Ancestor Chu's sudden summons concerned.
Xu Yinyue tremblingly pointed towards the offering table. The figure from just now had disappeared. She spoke to Jiang Nian in a panicked voice:
"This uncle's Soul was hooked into that book. A strange ghost hooked away his Soul."
Jiang Nian grabbed Xu Yinyue, who was trying to run into the courtyard out of fear. "Don't be afraid, that's our Old Ancestor, he won't harm anyone."
Hearing Jiang Nian's words, Xu Yinyue's legs, which had been running outwards, suddenly stopped. She looked at Jiang Nian blankly, her tone containing a hint of expectation, "Then will my grandfather also come to find me?"
Hearing her childish question, Jiang Nian gently bit her lip and said softly, "As long as you miss them, you will meet again. Your grandfather will definitely come to find you."
Thinking of the illusory figure just now, Xu Yinyue suddenly wasn't so scared. If that ghost was an elder ancestor of this Family, he definitely wouldn't harm his own Family.
Inside the stone book's internal space, Chu Qinhui was visiting this place for the first time. He looked around at the world with some bewilderment.
Blue sky and white clouds, soft grass underfoot, and not far from him, a seemingly very young figure lay leisurely on a rocking chair.
A guess flashed in his mind. He bowed slightly and cupped his hands towards the figure on the rocking chair, asking softly, "Excuse me, where is this place?"
"This is, of course, the place to resolve your doubts."
Hearing the familiar voice, Chu Qinhui finally confirmed who the figure before him was, and so he prostrated himself,
"Chu Qinhui greets Ancestor Chu. May I ask what urgent matter Ancestor Chu summoned Qin Hui for?"
Although the voice sounded very young before, upon seeing Ancestor Chu's appearance, Chu Qinhui's heart was still filled with too much disbelief.
They actually called such a person, who looked exceptionally young in every aspect, Ancestor Chu? Moreover, he didn't see the vicissitudes of life in Ancestor Chu's eyes.
Chu Mu lifted a finger, and Chu Qinhui, who was prostrate on the ground, felt his body involuntarily stand up.
Chu Mu stood up from the rocking chair, walked three feet in the air to Chu Qinhui's front, and said indifferently, "Don't let that little girl leave the Chu Family for now."
Chu Qinhui was stunned. "Xu Yinyue?"
Chu Mu nodded. Chu Qinhui didn't ask for the specific reason, but nodded. "Alright."
His eyes held some doubt. For this matter, the Old Ancestor summoned him here, when a command could have simply been given directly in the ancestral hall.
Chu Mu could sense the doubt in his heart. "I want you to keep her here using a gentle approach, understand?"
So that's it, Chu Qinhui suddenly understood. If a gentle approach was to be used, it indeed couldn't be done by giving orders in front of the little girl.
Chu Mu looked at Chu Qinhui for a couple more glances, sighed, and felt that he should still tell him some good news on New Year's Day,
"Your father is temporarily fine. He might be on his way back, or he might be temporarily trapped Beyond the Border and unable to return."
Hearing Chu Mu's words, Chu Qinhui visibly became excited. "Ancestor Chu, can you tell me Father's exact location, I..."
Before he finished speaking, Chu Mu interrupted, "What do you want to do? Go look for him? Your father, an Uncommon Rank upper-tier, is trapped in that place. What can you, a mere Mortal Rank upper-tier, do there? Just drag your father down?"
Chu Qinhui mumbled, not knowing what to say.
Chu Mu sighed. "What you need to do now is to support the Chu Family. Only then can your father be at ease."
"Yes." Chu Qinhui responded dully.
Chu Mu waved his hand, sending Chu Qinhui back.
He looked at the jade book floating beside him; it displayed Chu Jingyu's page.
「Name: Chu Jingyu (Family Head)
Rank: Uncommon Rank upper-tier
Age: Fifty-six
Contracted Source Beasts: Golden Armored Jade Pupil Beast (Carapace shattered), White-Browed Mountain Eagle (Mental trauma)
Status: Injured
Family Relationship: ...」
In fact, just now, Chu Mu had also reported good news without mentioning the bad to Chu Qinhui. With Chu Jingyu and his two Source Beasts injured, how good could his current situation be?
Chu Mu was unsure if Chu Jingyu could return safely. He could only spend all his Source Spirit to boost Chu Jingyu's Cultivation bonus, hoping that this bonus could help him even just a little.
Several months of interaction had made Chu Mu unable to stop worrying about his safety.
But Chu Mu was ultimately a Soul imprisoned within a Origin Artifact, and there wasn't much he could do.
