42: Chapter 42: Taking stock of our achievements and improving quality

"Level up, level up."

"Grow, grow."

Within the territory, numerous Spirit Gathering Arrays stood in rows, and all heroes and troops had entered a state of Cultivation.

Lin Xiao didn't need to Cultivate, so he simply began taking stock of his many previous harvests.

War Chest, open.

[You have opened a War Chest (Gold), obtaining 100,000 Source Crystals, 10,000 units of Food, 10,000 units of Wood, 10,000 units of Stone, 1,000 units of Iron Ore, 100 units of Silver Ore, and a Fine Iron Halberd (Excellent).]

His luck wasn't great this time, only yielding an Excellent-grade piece of equipment.

Gold-grade War Chests were not guaranteed to yield Rare-grade items; their probability was just higher than Silver and Bronze War Chests.

Raymond's Relic, open.

[You have opened the item "Raymond's Relic", obtaining 263,780 Source Crystals, 1,310 units of Food, 3,789 units of Wood, 2,570 units of Stone... Double-Edged Sword (Common), Rhino Leather Armor (Excellent), Random Hero Token (Common), Red Sandalwood...]

The so-called relic referred to the drops from a lord's inventory after they were killed.

Generally speaking, one could obtain 10% of their Source Crystals and basic resources.

As for other equipment and items, one-tenth would be randomly drawn from all their possessions. Which ones you actually got depended entirely on luck.

There really were quite a lot of things in Raymond's inventory, with dozens of items dropping. Unfortunately, most of them were Common-grade, with very few Excellent-grade items, let alone Rare-grade ones.

He would keep the useful ones and throw all the rest onto the trading market.

Two Perfect-grade chests, open.

[Congratulations, you have obtained Soul-Piercing Spike (Perfect).]

[Congratulations, you have obtained a Special Building Blueprint—tianji pavilion (Perfect).]

The harvest from the Perfect-grade chests was undoubtedly the highest.

The Soul-Piercing Spike was a dagger, which was perfect for Qian Ying's use.

She was an Epic-grade hero. When she was summoned, she came with a full set of Rare-grade equipment, which was no worse than the Soul-Piercing Spike here in the First Source Sea, but it would be different once they reached the Second Source Sea.

As for that Perfect-grade special building, the tianji pavilion.

It left Lin Xiao feeling a bit puzzled.

"Severing Karma, obscuring heaven's secrets?"

It sounded very high-end and grand, but its real function was to prevent others from obtaining the coordinates of Lin Xiao's territory.

Lin Xiao: "Wait, what..."

After meeting certain conditions, invaders could obtain the coordinates of the target lord's territory. This was a System rule. Could it really be hidden just because it said so?

If this tianji pavilion were a Mythical-grade special building, Lin Xiao might have believed it.

For a Perfect-grade one, aren't you getting a bit ahead of yourself?

Skepticism aside, the tianji pavilion was a Perfect-grade special building after all, so there must be some merit to it.

When in doubt, ask. Lin Xiao planned to ask Jin Ruxuan and Qin Yiyi about it later.

The Advanced resources required to build the tianji pavilion were very rare. Lin Xiao didn't have a single one, so he couldn't build it even if he wanted to.

All the chests had been opened.

Finally, Lin Xiao opened his attribute panel and looked at the row for slaughter points.

[slaughter points: 1867.52]

"Over 1,800 slaughter points, and there are actually two decimal places."

Lin Xiao was somewhat surprised and quickly opened the System log to browse through it.

[Your hero killed a Tier 2 creature, obtaining 4 slaughter points.]

...

[Your hero killed a Tier 1 creature, obtaining 0.3 slaughter points.]

...

[Your hero killed a Tier 0 creature, obtaining 0.01 slaughter points.]

The unique authority, Authority of Slaughter, came with no explanations; everything had to be figured out by Lin Xiao himself.

The war with Raymond could be considered a test.

Otherwise, that invasion war would have ended even faster.

"First of all, as long as I, or the heroes and troops under me, kill creatures, we will obtain slaughter points, regardless of whether the opponent is Tier 0 or Tier 2."

Lin Xiao began to summarize.

This was indeed good news.

After all, low-tier creatures made up the majority.

If he had to kill creatures of a tier not lower than his own, or higher than his own, to obtain slaughter points, then the restrictions would be quite significant.

"As expected of a unique authority."

Lin Xiao sighed with emotion.

Of course, killing low-tier creatures gave too few slaughter points. If one's strength was sufficient, it was definitely more profitable to kill high-tier creatures.

"Secondly, for creatures of the same tier, the stronger their power and the higher their quality, the more slaughter points they yield. The points given by lords and heroes directly reach the cap."

By now, Lin Xiao had figured out the pattern.

Killing a Tier 0 creature yielded 0.01 to 0.1 slaughter points.

Killing a Tier 1 creature yielded 0.1 to 1 slaughter point.

Killing a Tier 2 creature yielded 1 to 10 slaughter points.

Lin Xiao hadn't killed any higher-tier creatures yet, but he assumed it would follow this pattern.

Raymond and the Tier 2 heroes under him, whether Rare-grade or Excellent-grade, all yielded 10 slaughter points. The other Tier 2 troops yielded varying amounts of slaughter points, but the highest did not exceed 5 points.

In Lin Xiao's war with Raymond, the bulk of the slaughter points came from the early stage.

Once those hundreds of Tier 2 heroes and troops were wiped out, the heroes and troops Raymond summoned afterward were either Tier 1 or Tier 0, and the slaughter points they provided were a drop in the bucket.

"I wonder how many slaughter points it takes to upgrade quality."

Lin Xiao murmured.

Acting on his thoughts, he immediately summoned his four heroes, as well as the respective leaders of the five major troop types.

"This is for you." Once everyone had gathered, Lin Xiao threw the Soul-Piercing Spike to Qian Ying, who was standing off to the side by herself.

Qian Ying caught it effortlessly.

She toyed with it for a moment, a hint of joy flashing in her eyes. "Thank you, Lord."

Different from what Lin Xiao had guessed, she didn't replace the cold dagger she came with, but chose to dual-wield instead...

Well, reality wasn't a game; she wasn't restricted to using only one weapon.

Shaking his head, Lin Xiao pulled his thoughts back, looked at everyone, and said in a deep voice, "I've called you all here to see if I can upgrade your quality."

"What? Upgrade our quality?"

As soon as these words were spoken, everyone was stunned. Even the most composed, Zhong Yue, showed a look of shock in his eyes.

Upgrade their quality? Was he serious?

After being summoned, they had been instilled with the common knowledge of the Chaos Source Sea.

Therefore, in their understanding, the quality of heroes and troops could not be changed. Whatever quality they started with was what they would always be.

Like Jiang Yao, the Black Armor Soldierss, and the Dragon Cavalry.

Within the territory, their quality was the lowest, being only Rare-grade, and their future ceiling was clearly defined.

Seeing each newly joined hero and troop having higher quality and greater strength than the last, it was impossible for them not to feel a sense of disappointment.

However, reality was cruel.

Jiang Yao and the others had already prepared themselves mentally to gradually be marginalized as they failed to keep up with the territory's development in the future.

But now, they actually heard that their quality could be upgraded?

Out of their 100% loyalty and trust in Lin Xiao, no matter how unbelievable this matter was, they would choose to believe.

The eyes of Jiang Yao and the others instantly shone with the light of hope.
