21: Chapter 21 Our careers are probably over!
"What happened?" Reporter Li Fei asked, her voice trembling.
The loud noise from just now had felt like an earthquake, making her heart tremble along with it. It sent a cold shiver down her spine.
Cameraman Bai Zhuang readjusted the camera and shook his head, looking terrified as he replied, "I'm not sure, it... it seems to have come from inside the factory grounds."
Cameraman Bai Zhuang swallowed hard and aimed the lens into the factory grounds. However, the grounds were too large; even with the camera zoomed in, he couldn't capture anything.
There were only a few workers faintly visible, hurrying toward the inside of the factory.
Reporter Li Fei and her cameraman were startled, and the viewers in the livestream were also genuinely frightened.
They had been following the camera lens, intending to get a good look at the inside of this shady enterprise. Who would have thought that before they could even see the situation inside clearly, they would be jolted by a sudden, loud noise.
"Damn, what the hell was that noise? Scared the crap out of me!"
"This loud noise... they aren't developing bombs, are they?"
"Don't joke around, man. Developing that kind of stuff won't just get you 'golden bracelets,' you might even get a bullet to the head. Who would dare to mess with that?"
"Then what was that loud noise just now?"
"Who knows? Host, go up there and take a look..."
"Yeah, follow them and take a look, Host. Since you're already here, you can't just go back empty-handed, right?"
"..." The earth-shattering noise had greatly increased the viewers' curiosity.
Reporter Li Fei held her phone, watching the scrolling comments. Nearly half of the comments were demanding that she go up and see what exactly had happened.
Reporter Li Fei looked hesitant, but seeing the large number of viewers in the livestream and the high popularity, she decided to go for it. For the sake of traffic, it was all worth it. Besides, she had a press pass, so what was there to be afraid of?
Reporter Li Fei gritted her teeth, exchanged a glance with Cameraman Bai Zhuang, and then said to the viewers in the livestream:
"Since everyone wants us to go up and take a look, we certainly won't disappoint you. Let's go! We're following them now."
"Friends who like our livestream, remember to click follow, tap the little red heart, and share it so more friends can come and watch."
"Let's go see together what kind of stuff this shady enterprise is still up to!"
Reporter Li Fei took a deep breath, walked side-by-side with her cameraman, bypassed the hurrying workers, and headed toward the workshop where the loud noise had come from.
Along the way, there were workers wearing uniform work clothes. Normally, if Reporter Li Fei and her team had barged in like this, they definitely would have been caught long ago.
But now, perhaps because of that loud noise earlier, not a single worker was paying attention to them. This made Reporter Li Fei and her cameraman instantly breathe a sigh of relief.
And just as the two of them turned into a corridor, following the workers not far ahead, suddenly, a large group of people walked out from a special access passage nearby.
And when Reporter Li Fei saw the person walking at the very front, surrounded by the crowd, she suddenly gasped, her face filled with excitement.
"Xu... Xu Hao! That's the Chairman of Xu's Heavy Industry, Xu Hao!!"
Reporter Li Fei hid in the corner of the corridor and exclaimed in a low voice, her excitement almost impossible to conceal. Finally... she had finally seen the Chairman of Xu's Heavy Industry.
She had waited bitterly for seven days, and now she had finally seen Xu Hao. This... An excited Reporter Li Fei suddenly didn't know what to say.
It was the right choice... choosing to follow them was truly the right choice. Regardless of what the loud noise was, just capturing Xu Hao's face was already a very worthwhile thing.
Moreover, looking at their hurried, serious expressions earlier, it was obvious that something important must have happened to cause that loud noise.
"What on earth could it be that makes the Chairman of Xu's Heavy Industry so anxious?" Reporter Li Fei's mood instantly became heated. Inside this factory... there were likely unspeakable secrets, she thought to herself.
"Go! Follow them!!" Taking a deep breath, Reporter Li Fei suppressed the excitement in her heart and said to Cameraman Bai Zhuang. Upon hearing this, Cameraman Bai Zhuang nodded, and then, on tiptoes, followed behind Xu Hao's group.
Xu Hao's group walked very quickly, putting a long distance between them and Reporter Li Fei's team. By the time they reached the workshop entrance, Xu Hao and his group had already gone inside, and the workshop doors had long since closed.
"A step too slow!" Reporter Li Fei stamped her foot, feeling secretly annoyed. Worried about being discovered by Xu Hao and his group, Reporter Li Fei and Cameraman Bai Zhuang had kept their footsteps very light, which resulted in them moving very slowly. In the blink of an eye, they had lost Xu Hao's group.
"What should we do? We can't get in," Cameraman Bai Zhuang asked. He raised his camera, wanting to film the situation inside through the thick, high walls. But the wall was too high; even on his tiptoes, he couldn't capture anything.
Reporter Li Fei looked at the constantly urging comments in the livestream, feeling anxious herself. What to do... what to do...
She scanned the surroundings of the workshop, her eyes lighting up when she suddenly saw a sign hanging on the wall. "Look! There!!" Reporter Li Fei pointed to a spot near the sign and said.
They were currently at the main entrance of the workshop. Apart from a heavy door, there were no windows. However, there were windows on the sides of the workshop. Although they were a bit high, it was still much better than seeing nothing at all.
"Let's go, let's go to the side." Reporter Li Fei was unwilling to wait here and miss out on filming explosive footage inside. So, having noted the location of the side of the workshop, she hurriedly pulled the cameraman over.
"This is it..." Reporter Li Fei looked up at the window, which was two heads taller than her, and said. "Can't capture anything here either." Cameraman Bai Zhuang raised his camera, but still couldn't capture anything. As luck would have it, the window frame was blocking the lens, causing it to be completely blurry.
"I'll go get a brick!" Reporter Li Fei looked around, saw a concrete brick not far away, immediately rolled up her sleeves, and carried the brick over with both hands. Panting, she placed it under the window. "Come, you... you stand on it!"
Reporter Li Fei put her hands on her hips, breathless. This brick... was really heavy... Cameraman Bai Zhuang nodded and stood on the concrete brick. Then he raised the camera, aiming it at the interior of the workshop. His eyes were also fixed on the camera screen.
It's actually quite clear... Cameraman Bai Zhuang nodded with satisfaction, then zoomed in bit by bit. He smiled very happily; after so much trouble, he had finally captured some valuable footage. However... when the zoomed-in image appeared on the screen, the smile on his face gradually froze, and his slightly rapid breathing almost came to a complete halt.
"How is it? Did you get it?" Reporter Li Fei stood below, patted him on the lower back, and asked anxiously. But... she didn't receive a response from Cameraman Bai Zhuang. "Hey, did you get it?" She used a bit more force, lowered her voice, and urged him.
Cameraman Bai Zhuang still didn't respond; his eyes were wide open, and the expression on his face was frozen. Reporter Li Fei came to his side and happened to see the stunned expression on his face. Clever as she was, she immediately felt that something was wrong.
She shook Cameraman Bai Zhuang's body heavily. At this moment, Cameraman Bai Zhuang finally snapped out of his daze, his throat bobbed, and he looked at Reporter Li Fei with shocked eyes. "What on earth did you see? Why are you acting like you've lost your soul?" Reporter Li Fei frowned and said, somewhat dissatisfied.
She had been calling him for a long time without a response; even if he had seen some explosive footage, it shouldn't be like this, right? Cameraman Bai Zhuang naturally saw the displeasure on Reporter Li Fei's face. He didn't explain.
After placing the camera on the window, he stepped down from the concrete brick. His body was stiff, and then he said to Reporter Li Fei: "You... you'd better take a look yourself? I think... our careers as reporters are probably at an end..." "If things go badly, we might even end up getting room and board in prison."
Cameraman Bai Zhuang leaned against the wall, cold sweat soaking his back. Hearing his words, Reporter Li Fei was completely dumbfounded. Reporter Li Fei: "???" She frowned, her head full of question marks.
