Chapter 28 Breaking the Nightmare Again
That was the core of the Cat-Faced Old Woman's evil thoughts; if Liu Ziming were truly dragged into the Death-Abandonment Kiln, he would likely be doomed forever.
He couldn't wait any longer!
Chen Mu's thoughts stirred; his perspective suddenly contracted, and the pulling force from the bear paw gloves appeared once more.
This time he didn't drift, but fell rapidly toward Liu Ziming's location!
"Liu Ziming!"
Seeing the other party about to step into the kiln, Chen Mu shouted immediately. His voice felt almost solid, exploding around Liu Ziming and sending gravel flying everywhere!
Liu Ziming's body trembled violently, a trace of clarity returned to his confused eyes, and he stopped in his tracks.
The next moment, Chen Mu descended like a Heavenly God, grabbing his arm with one hand and slamming his other hand, like a giant bear paw, into the blood mist wrapping around Liu Ziming.
"Sshhh—"
The blood mist suddenly exploded, emitting a distorted, shrill scream, before thinning and completely dissipating.
Liu Ziming lost the traction and sat on the ground, grimacing in pain.
He finally looked like a living person again.
"Chen Mu!"
"Wake up, follow me!"
Chen Mu issued a clear command and swung his palm again without hesitation.
Behind him, an invisible giant bear seemed to roar, forcibly dispelling the surrounding darkness and cold, creating a sanctuary.
Liu Ziming instinctively moved closer to Chen Mu.
At the same time, the dense blood mist at the entrance of the Death-Abandonment Kiln churned violently.
A cat face filled with endless resentment poked out from the darkness, its crimson eyes staring straight at the two, suddenly looking up and emitting a Soul-piercing howl.
With her prey about to be devoured snatched away, the Cat-Faced Old Woman's anger reached its peak.
Chen Mu snorted coldly, holding his sword horizontally; the surface of the blade glowed with a faint black halo due to the blessing of the bear paw gloves.
"You never learn!"
Chen Mu shouted, swung his sword, and the Sword Intent of the Heaven-Slaying Sword Drawing Technique was fully unleashed, turning into a dazzling white light that struck the other party!
The Cat-Faced Old Woman dodged nimbly, and the Sword Qi, carrying the power to break demons, went straight ahead, splitting the Death-Abandonment Kiln that housed her with a loud bang.
Instantly, the world lost its color, the wind and clouds changed, and the entire dream space shook violently.
The Cat-Faced Old Woman let out an even more shrill howl, glanced back at them, and her body suddenly became ethereal, fleeing into the depths of the dream.
The vicious gaze she left behind was like a maggot on the bone, making both of them secretly terrified.
The next second, the barrier between reality and the dream was forcibly broken.
On the floor of the side room, Chen Mu opened his eyes abruptly, a flash of light passing through them.
They still maintained their previous positions; Liu Ziming was lying on the ground, covered in footprints left by Chen Mu when he kept kicking him.
Chen Mu was beside him, his bear-paw-gloved hand still not leaving his forehead.
The palm of his left hand was still pressed against Liu Ziming's forehead, though the ghostly light on the bear paw gloves was quickly fading.
Almost simultaneously, a pig-like scream came from Liu Ziming beside him.
"Ah! My leg! Chen Mu, you broke my leg!"
Liu Ziming was covered in tears and snot, clutching his unnaturally bent left leg, sweating profusely from the pain, his face pale.
The fear from the dream had not yet dissipated, and the excruciating pain in his leg in reality almost made him faint again.
Chen Mu stood up and quickly glanced at Liu Ziming's lower leg.
It was swollen and deformed, but the skin was not broken; it should be a fracture and dislocation caused by his urgent kicks, not a complete break.
Even the black hair that had grown earlier had completely faded, and his nails had returned to normal, so he felt relieved.
Nothing too serious.
"Your leg bone isn't broken, but it's dislocated and fractured. It needs to be set, but this place is strange and the root cause hasn't been removed, so I must stay to deal with it."
"Sending you back to Yunmeng City for help and treatment would take too long, and the people in the city might not be happy to see us return."
Hearing the second half of Chen Mu's sentence and thinking of the faces of Head Constable Wang and Xu Changze, Liu Ziming shivered.
"Then... what should I do? My leg..."
"Endure it."
Chen Mu was concise. Before he finished speaking, his hands had already firmly fixed the upper and lower ends of Liu Ziming's injured lower leg, confirmed the direction of the dislocation and the fracture, and pushed hard.
"Crack!"
"Ah—"
Hearing a crisp sound, Liu Ziming screamed and almost fainted again.
Chen Mu quickly pulled out a few relatively straight firewood sticks from under the kang, tore off a piece of his lining, and skillfully fixed and bandaged Liu Ziming's lower leg.
The whole process was crisp and efficient, with a cold efficiency.
Looking at Liu Ziming again, he was now sprawled on the ground, sweating profusely, as if he had just been fished out of water.
His eyes looking at Chen Mu were full of fear and lingering terror, but also an inexplicable, strange sense of relief.
At least his leg was saved, and Chen Mu seemed to really have the ability to handle the trouble here.
After doing all this, the sky was slightly bright, and the blood mist churning outside the window seemed to have faded a little.
Liu Ziming panted heavily, leaning weakly on the kang, looking out the window with lingering fear.
"This damn place... Chen Mu, thanks to you."
"If it weren't for my eyes being a bit special, having an innate deterrent to that evil thing, preventing it from casting spells with full power, I'm afraid I wouldn't have lasted until you arrived."
"Special?"
Chen Mu was concentrating on sensing the situation outside the courtyard. Hearing this, he turned to look at Liu Ziming.
He saw that when Liu Ziming spoke, there seemed to be a faint, pale golden flow of light in the depths of his pupils, different from ordinary people.
If it weren't for Chen Mu's vision being exceptionally sharp after the marrow-cleansing and hair-cutting, he would hardly have noticed it.
"Yeah, I've been able to see some unclean things since I was a child. My family said it was Yin and Yang eyes that attract evil, and it took a lot of effort to get an expert to seal most of it temporarily."
"But fortunately for these eyes, that old hag didn't have it so easy when she tried to swallow my Soul completely in the dream."
Chen Mu's gaze narrowed, and he carefully examined Liu Ziming's eyes.
Combining this with the fact that he had seen the plight of Blind Li's family upon entering the dream, a thought flashed through his mind.
"Perhaps these aren't ordinary Yin and Yang eyes that can see ghosts and gods."
Chen Mu spoke slowly, his tone thoughtful.
"I entered the dream just to save you, but I was pulled into seeing some fragments of Karma formed by the grievances in this Sangye Village."
"The feeling your eyes give me is that their function is more about glimpsing Karma."
"If you can Cultivate it to the extreme, you might be able to find a chance for immortality and seek a path of transcendence."
He paused and didn't continue, as it was just a vague intuition and guess.
Liu Ziming listened, half-understanding, but the words "path of transcendence" made his heart shake, and he blinked blankly.
Chen Mu waited for his pain to subside slightly and continued.
"As far as I know, the village is temporarily safe after dawn. We must take this opportunity to investigate the Mass Grave and find the Cat Demon's true form to break the situation."
Then he reached out and pulled Liu Ziming up.
"Follow me." Chen Mu said, striding towards the door and pulling it open.
Liu Ziming grimaced in pain, but still followed step by step.
By this time, the sky was gradually brightening, and through the courtyard wall, he could see that the blood mist outside had dissipated a little.
The old dog was still lying on the ground, skinny and bony, its fur dull, without even the strength to lift its head.
