Chapter 80 Hundred Ghosts Intercept and Kill

The skeleton approached rapidly. Upon reaching him, it raised its rusted, broken blade high, its jaw grinding to produce a teeth-aching clattering sound.

Liu Ziming had already closed his eyes, waiting for death, but the excruciating pain he expected did not descend.

Instead, there was a sharp sound of something piercing the air, followed immediately by the crisp sound of shattering bone.

"Crack!"

A jet-black blade light descended from above without warning, slashing down diagonally.

The skeleton did not even have time to react before its raised right arm, along with half of its shoulder armor, was split in two by the blade light.

The severed bones did not fall to the ground; the moment they were cut, they turned into a cloud of fly ash and vanished.

The black light receded, and a figure landed lightly in front of Liu Ziming, making no sound upon touching the ground.

The newcomer stood with his back to Liu Ziming, his figure tall and straight. He held a primitive short blade in his hand, his expression cold and stern, his eyes sharp, and a powerful aura radiated from his entire body.

"Can you still move?"

A familiar voice rang out. Liu Ziming opened his mouth; the extreme fear combined with the sudden hope made him tremble violently.

"Chen... Chen Mu?!"

Chen Mu nodded, but he dared not be careless. His gaze did not linger for even a second on the scattered skeleton, but instead scanned the surroundings rapidly.

This forbidden land known as the Yangu Pit was far more dangerous than he had anticipated.

The strike he had just used was the soul-slaying blade, supplemented by the Perfection Realm Soul-Loss Art; it was absolutely devastating against this type of low-level Ghostly Creature formed by resentment clinging to withered bones.

[Killed low-level Yangu Pit skeleton, plundered Lifespan: one year]

The System's notification sound rang in his mind.

Although it was only one year, even a mosquito's leg is meat; more importantly, it verified the possibility of farming Lifespan here.

However, Chen Mu could not bring himself to be happy; instead, his heart gradually sank.

He could feel that the moment the skeleton was destroyed, at least a dozen even colder auras in the vicinity were disturbed and locked onto their direction.

Their auras varied in strength, but without exception, they all radiated an extreme craving for the living.

The weaker ones, while not reaching the Dao Entry Realm, could still match an ordinary Martial Artist.

The stronger ones had already stepped into the Middle Stage of the Dao Entry Realm, or even the Late Stage!

And several auras hidden deeper, not yet fully manifested, brought a sense of oppression to Chen Mu that was no less than the Paper Person Ghostly Creature from the Zhao Mansion.

And the density and overall strength of the Ghostly Creatures here far exceeded the Zhao Mansion.

After all, although the Paper Person was strong, there was only one; but here, the true lair of a hundred ghosts was a forbidden land of resentment accumulated over who knows how many years.

He had just achieved a Breakthrough to the Late Stage of the Dao Entry Realm, and with the Soul-Loss Art and the soul-slaying blade by his side, he might have the strength to fight a single Heart-Awakening Realm Ghostly Creature.

But if he faced a ghost tide of hundreds or thousands, fighting head-on would definitely be a dead end.

This place was far beyond what his current strength could explore.

"Chen Mu, it really is you! I knew it... I knew you wouldn't abandon me!"

Liu Ziming was so excited he was incoherent, his voice cracking, as he scrambled to get closer to Chen Mu.

"Don't move!"

Chen Mu gave a low shout, and Liu Ziming immediately froze.

With a flip of his wrist, the soul-slaying blade traced a dark light, severing the hemp ropes binding Liu Ziming.

"Can you move? We need to leave quickly!"

"Yes! Yes!"

Liu Ziming struggled to stand up, but the piercing pain in his leg injury caused him to stumble, nearly falling again.

Chen Mu frowned; without caring about much else, he lifted him with one hand, tucked him under his arm, held the blade in his other hand, and pushed his Divine Void Step to the limit.

At the same time, the hidden Ghostly Creatures swarmed forward. Those with physical forms brandished weapons and sharp claws, while those without turned into cold winds and ghostly wails.

Chen Mu did not hesitate and immediately swung the soul-slaying blade.

The three skeletons at the forefront were silently severed into several pieces, not even completing the action of swinging their own blades.

His eyes were cold, the Soul-Loss Art was in full operation, and the soul-slaying blade in his hand turned into streaks of black light and afterimages; any Ghostly Creature that dared to block his path was cleaved in two.

He did not linger in battle, nor did he seek to kill many; he only sought to open a path as quickly as possible.

His Protective Aura surged; the newly achieved Realm provided more enduring power, and the Divine Void Step left behind strings of afterimages that were hard to distinguish between real and fake, confusing the pursuing Ghostly Creatures.

At the same time, more Ghostly Creatures emerged, their ghostly wails shrill and long.

A drowned ghost with disheveled hair, its whole body soaked until it turned pale.

A battlefield soul with a broken body hanging with rotting flesh, its eyes filled with sky-high resentment.

Even a collective of infant spirits composed of countless tiny human faces, emitting the crying sounds of babies, which were far harder to deal with than ordinary Ghostly Creatures.

Chen Mu protected Liu Ziming, almost completely abandoning defense, protecting only his vital points, and pushing his attacks to the extreme.

It was a fighting style of trading injuries for a path.

Along the way, although he had gained several wounds from ghost claws, his eyes grew increasingly resolute.

[Killed drowned vengeful spirit, plundered Lifespan: one year]

[Killed battlefield remnant soul, plundered Lifespan: two years]

[Killed infant spirit evil entity, plundered Lifespan: three years]

...

He did not know how many Ghostly Creatures he had destroyed; the notification sounds for plundering Lifespan almost merged into one.

Blade light, ghost shadows, screams, and blood splattered everywhere.

Chen Mu pushed his speed to the limit; he could feel several powerful auras rapidly approaching from behind, making no attempt to conceal their killing intent.

He had to dash out of the boundary before those things caught up.

As far as he knew, these Ghostly Creatures seemed to be subject to some kind of restriction and could not leave the range of the Yangu Pit.

As long as he could dash out of the boundary, he would be safe.

The distance was shortening; he could already faintly see the boundary marker ahead.

The boundary was right before his eyes.

However, just as Chen Mu was about to step out of the range of the Yangu Pit, an unexpected change occurred.

A jet-black ghost claw, condensed to the point of being substantial, reached out silently and grabbed straight for Chen Mu's back.

The speed was far beyond all previous Ghostly Creatures.

Chen Mu was at the end of his strength; he had no time to turn and block, and could not even dodge.

He spun around violently and threw Liu Ziming out hard.

At the same time, he silently activated the Taibao Horizontal Training, and his Protective Aura instantly expanded to the limit, forming a nearly substantial golden light shield.

"Ssh!"

The ghost claw slammed into the golden shield, actually gouging out five indentations.

The bone-chilling cold power penetrated the golden shield and invaded Chen Mu's body directly; immediately, his Qi and blood churned, and he tasted a metallic sweetness in his throat.

But also using the force of this grab, Chen Mu's figure stumbled out of the Yangu Pit's range, falling heavily outside the boundary.

"Pfft!"

He spat out a mouthful of blood, his face turning pale.

Looking back, that ghost claw slowly retracted at the boundary, and a pair of eyes filled with resentment and unwillingness could be faintly seen.

As expected, it couldn't come out!

Chen Mu felt slightly reassured; he barely suppressed his churning Qi and blood and struggled to stand up.

"Chen Mu!"

Liu Ziming had also been thrown quite hard and scrambled over to him.

Chen Mu shook his head to signal he was fine, but his gaze had already passed over Liu Ziming and landed ahead.

Head Constable Wang and the few masked men he brought were staring dumbfounded at the two who had fought their way out of the Yangu Pit.

As if they had seen a ghost.
