38: Damn, I'm having a blast with these bastards.

As the applause died down, over a dozen figures wielding bone blades slowly emerged from the yellow sand.

They had grayish-white fur, pointed horns on their heads, slender limbs, and black scales covering their skin, with dark green eyes filled with savagery and bloodlust.

Their waists were adorned with human skulls, the smallest no bigger than a fist, like infants forcibly dug out of pregnant women's bellies.

The one who had applauded earlier was a particularly lean Nether race member.

Unlike the otheralien race (alien races), his eyes were light purple, and the color of his scales was deeper.

Beside him stood a middle-aged man in white, looking out of place among the ferocious Nether race.

His face was calm, even carrying a hint of scholarly air.

The Nether leader's gaze swept over Xie Jinyu's body, split in half on the ground, then looked at the middle-aged man beside him, baring two rows of jagged, sharp fangs with a grin:

"Mr. Shi, you are truly calculating and full of schemes! Just as you said, we only needed to leave for a short while, and this group of people would turn on each other."

Shi Hu smiled slightly, raising a hand to push up the golden-rimmed glasses on his nose.

"It's being prescient and resourceful, Leader Mo Ya," he said in a gentle voice, devoid of any discernible emotion.

"Human nature is largely like this. Even if you burn their homes with fierce flames, and cut down their kin with sharp blades, they might, in the instant of surging blood and tears, solidify into steel, united against a common enemy, and charge into the abyss."

"But when the smoke clears, those figures who once stood shoulder to shoulder in the ruins will again draw the knives hidden in their sleeves, for the slight tilt of a sunbeam in a corner or the ownership of half a handful of grain under the eaves."

"Humans, ah, are all forgetful creatures."

"Understood, you humans are all forgetful!" Mo Ya let out a purring laugh from his throat, his bone blade scraping an ear-splitting sound on the ground.

Shi Hu's mouth twitched, his gaze sweeping over the tense faces of Wei Changfeng and the others, as if he were enjoying a play whose ending had long been written.

Meanwhile, on the other side.

With the sudden appearance of this Nether race group, the air around the Jiangcheng Night Watch Division members seemed to freeze.

An indescribable sense of oppression descended like a tangible presence, several times more terrifying than the pressure Xie Jinyu had exuded at his peak!

The Night Watch Division members' faces instantly turned pale, and their hands clutching their weapons trembled uncontrollably.

Wei Changfeng gritted his teeth, forcibly circulating his spiritual energy to resist, veins bulging on his forehead, and the clothes on his back soaked with cold sweat.

"Damn it! They didn't fall for it at all!" Wei Changfeng's voice trembled.

But when Lu Ming saw Shi Hu in the middle of the Nether race, his pupils constricted slightly.

That's right! This person was Shi Hu, who had previously fled to the Mist Zone.

The beasts of the Myriad Gods Sect had actually colluded with the alien races!

His heart sank little by little.

Among the dozen or so Nether race members who surrounded them, three exuded auras no weaker than Xie Jinyu's just now.

And the purple-eyed fellow leading them had an even more unfathomable aura, bringing him an unprecedented sense of crisis.

"Can I execute him?" A thought flashed through Lu Ming's mind, then he suppressed it.

The realm difference was too great; there was no room for error.

With his strength, at most he could unleash one unexpected strike.

But the 1% trigger chance was too low; failure would mean eternal damnation.

Chen Ziliang's legs went weak, his face ashen.

This time, he finally didn't need to calculate the odds of victory.

Facing such a group of monsters, let alone resisting, it was hard to even summon the courage to flee.

"Not bad, after all this, these bipedal sheep are much more well-behaved." Mo Ya licked his lips, a flicker of excitement in his dark purple eyes. "Mr. Shi, what should we do next?"

"It's a pity it wasn't that woman, Zhao Qingge. Never mind, time is pressing."

Shi Hu shook his head regretfully, his gaze falling on the distant pagoda, his eyes reflecting a faint light behind his golden-rimmed glasses.

"Legend has it that before the spiritual energy revival, Reid the Venerable had a disciple named Mirror Demon."

"This Mirror Demon was formless and shapeless, ranking at the bottom in strength, yet it was the most troublesome of Reid the Venerable's many disciples, solely because its combat style was unique. It could replicate any creature that entered its territory, including their strength, talents, and martial arts!"

"After Reid the Venerable disappeared, the Mirror Demon remained in his dojo. So, don't be fooled by its aura, which is only at the Fourth Realm. If you are at the Fifth Realm, it can also ascend to the Fifth Realm. In short, the stronger you are, the stronger it becomes!"

"Sir, I understand." Mo Ya's eyes flickered. "So you kept these bipedal sheep to hold back that Mirror Demon!"

"Clever." Shi Hu nodded approvingly, his gaze falling on Lu Ming and the others.

"These Night Watch Division members are a bit weak in cultivation, but they can buy us some time, enough for us to break through the array at the top of the pagoda!"

A bloodthirsty glint flashed in Mo Ya's purple pupils: "Then what are we waiting for? Throw them in now, and let's go to the top of the pagoda to get the item!"

Upon hearing this, Lu Ming's eyes also lit up.

If this Mirror Demon is that awesome, you should have said so earlier, you scared the hell out of me!

So what about my two unique talents?

Oh, wait, there's also Mining Expertise!

Facing Shi Hu and Mo Ya's unhidden, loud scheming, Chen Ziliang silently took out his storage bag and handed it to Lu Ming.

"I can die, but I won't let these beasts benefit! Brother Lu, you should seize the opportunity to run later! If you can make it back alive, please give this to my sister. Her name is Chen Tongtong, and she's at the First People's Hospital."

The other Night Watchers followed suit.

In their eyes, Lu Ming might still have a glimmer of hope.

"And me, Patrolman Lu, my mother's name is Lin Gui Fang."

"Patrolman Lu, my wife's name is Li Fei. Please tell my daughter that I love them, and her dad is not a coward!"

...The Night Watch Division members, as if having made their final arrangements, glared fiercely, letting out beast-like growls: "Damn it, let's blow up with these beasts! Take down as many as we can!"

Lu Ming looked at the hands reaching out to him, the tokens in his palm including a silver longevity lock, a yellowed family photo, and a well-worn, shiny old pocket watch.

"All of you, take them back!" He suddenly roared, "Whoever's family it is, go see them yourself! Whoever's promise it is, go fulfill it yourself! What do you take me for? A delivery man or a mouthpiece?"

Chen Ziliang was stunned, then forced a bitter smile: "Brother Lu, I know you're strong, but don't push yourself... That Mirror Demon can even replicate Fifth Realm cultivators. With our cultivation, going in is just sending ourselves to be eaten."

"Sending ourselves to be eaten?" Lu Ming suddenly grinned, a strange confidence in his laughter.

"What are you mumbling about? All of you, shut up and behave!" Mo Ya's bone blade swung violently, carving a deep gash in the sand, the flying grit stinging the faces of the Night Watch Division members.

He looked at the gritting-toothed Night Watch Division members with a sneer.

"All of you, smile! Don't you humans always say that men who smile often don't have bad luck?"

"What if someone really can slay that Mirror Demon?"

"Hahahahaha... Don't make your Master Mo laugh, damn it!"
