Chapter 146 Old Wang's Little Scheme

On the other side. Xining Railway Station.

An elderly man wearing a duck-billed cap, short in stature, and carrying a backpack walked out of the station.

He took off the face mask on his face and greedily breathed in the air of this land in Xining.

"Great!"

"The air in Xining is good, and it's safe too!"

Uncle Wang pulled his suitcase and walked down the steps.

"Dad, where did you go? Didn't you say you were going back to Muhe?" The voice of his daughter rang out from his Bluetooth headset.

Uncle Wang was taken aback for a moment and explained: "Some things are too metaphysical. Your dad has been living like he's walking on thin ice recently. If I don't do something, who knows, one day I might really get shot!"

His tone was incredibly serious.

The main reason was that he had thought it through during the time he was detained.

He simply could not watch the excitement with Chen Mo.

Once the two of them went to watch together, it would inevitably trigger some kind of bad luck buff, leading to a case.

But he couldn't break his habit of watching the excitement.

Since that was the case, he couldn't be in the same city as Chen Mo for now.

Because, as time went on, he gradually discovered that the buff seemed to have become more severe.

Because last time at the temple, the two of them hadn't been watching any excitement at all. They had just done some things together. Yet, he had actually been arrested and mistaken for a drug dealer.

No sooner had he sent away that plague god, Chen Mo, than he was arrested himself.

Therefore, coming into contact with Chen Mo would trigger the buff! This was also the reason why he had hurriedly taken a train to leave after coming out of the Anti-Drug Squad.

Moreover, he had taken precautions. That was to tell Chen Mo that he had returned to Muhe. In reality, that wasn't the case; he had turned around and come to Xining to find a comrade-in-arms.

It was all about a diversion!

With such an ingenious plan, surely he wouldn't run into Chen Mo again, right?

"Definitely not." Uncle Wang reviewed it in his mind again, and the expression on his face changed from pensive to happy.

For this period, he could happily watch the excitement. When a person encounters a happy event, they feel refreshed. His steps were full of vigor.

"Dad, so where are you now?"

"It's a secret." Uncle Wang gave a few more instructions and then hung up the phone.

He glanced at the vehicles parked outside the station. Finally, his gaze landed on a family car.

In a hotel not far from the Xinghan Municipal Bureau, Chen Mo walked out of Xu Qingqing's room. A look of realization appeared on his face.

"Xu Qingqing's Reasoning ability."

"Level 70-80." He muttered to himself.

According to their multiple comparisons, Chen Mo discovered that Xu Qingqing's Reasoning ability was far superior to his own; even much of the professional Reasoning knowledge she spoke of left him somewhat baffled.

At first, he thought Xu Qingqing was deliberately making things difficult. But later, following her explanations, he discovered that wasn't the case. Rather, the other party's own innate talent for Reasoning was extremely high.

"But that's not right either."

"When investigating cases, my use of Reasoning ability is basically on par with hers."

"How could it be so much higher than mine?"

He recalled the situation between the two of them when investigating the Song Jia case, as well as the current inconsistencies. He looked out the window of the corridor. An answer emerged in his mind.

He actually had a major difference from Xu Qingqing. He possessed many abilities himself, and basically, he could be considered proficient in every skill. Therefore, when combined with Reasoning, it manifested as very strong capability.

Whereas Xu Qingqing's abilities were very singular. She only had an outrageously strong Reasoning ability, while her other abilities were only at a level of two or three. And her Reasoning ability was greatly discounted.

"I've obtained the result I wanted, I suppose."

"Seventy-something levels; it looks like it can still continue to rise. Could it be that the human max level is one hundred?"

Whether it was or not was no longer important. Having a rough concept in his mind was enough for Chen Mo.

Returning to his room, he found that only Long Hao was alone, reviewing documents for a large number of cases, while the others were resting or out having fun.

"Captain Long, so diligent." Chen Mo asked casually and then sat down.

"Isn't it because I want to give it my all?"

"Why didn't you go out for a stroll?" Long Hao put down the document in his hand and looked at Chen Mo.

"I only want to rest when I'm tired; I don't want to rest when I'm not tired." Chen Mo said something insipid. But it could be considered an explanation for Long Hao.

"That's perfect. I've compiled these documents regarding the case situation in Xining."

"Applying your previous logic, the ultimate goal of this competition is to increase the public's sense of security while strengthening their confidence in the police's capabilities."

"Which case do you think will be the one for this competition?"

As he spoke, he placed the major cases he had previously screened, along with five cases well-known to the public, in front of Chen Mo.

"Let me see." Predicting the questions in advance is a good habit. Chen Mo was also willing to do so. His gaze swept over the documents one by one. And time slipped away silently.

After a good while, Chen Mo finally put the documents down. He took a sip of water and shook his head: "As it stands, none of these five cases will be selected."

"Or rather, the probability is very low."

Long Hao's face showed surprise.

"None of them? Why? The rape-murder case attracted widespread attention locally; many people remember it, and it's a major case..."

His meaning was very simple; the situation was basically consistent with the previous cases. Why was it that using the same standards as last time didn't work this time?

"On the surface, these cases all seem to fit."

"But they all have a fatal problem, and that is the issue of dissemination and values!"

Long Hao understood dissemination. Long Hao also understood values. After pondering for a moment, he looked at these cases again. A look of sudden realization appeared on his face.

"Do you mean that for these cases, some people hope they are solved, while others don't?"

"So, these types of cases look like they fit, but among the public, it's a matter of 'to each their own'?"

Without Chen Mo nodding, he confirmed it himself. The perpetrators of these few cases, in a sense, were all of the pitiful type. Most had been bullied and then taken revenge on the deceased.

This formed two viewpoints among the public. One was: 'Killing a person requires paying with one's life.' The other was: 'Killing the person who bullied him is certainly wrong, but search your own conscience—did he really do something wrong?'

When the case originally happened, the perpetrator was actually identified long ago because the deceased had, in the perpetrator's presence, raped his mother before dying. Naturally, the son's motive for the crime was very obvious.

However, due to insufficient evidence at the crime scene, the son (the perpetrator) could not be arrested for a long time. Later, the case was reported by the media. The internet exploded, and there were all sorts of arguments.

"While many people certainly know about this case and it has an impression in the hearts of the public."

"But solving it might not be a good thing."

"Rather than working hard to solve the case and offending a group of people, why not choose other cases?" Chen Mo spread his hands.
