Chapter 16: Another Bizarre New Announcement!

After finishing the matters, Captain Long and the Instructor both left.

"One must commit to the act."

This meant that he would have to spend the entire day here.

But what about the betting agreement and the cases needed for the achievement?

He couldn't really lie here all day.

Yet, cases like that weren't something he could just stumble upon whenever he wanted.

Especially since he needed a case above D-rank; just going to the police station to solve some petty case wouldn't solve the problem.

While he was deep in thought, footsteps echoed in the hospital corridor.

Looking toward the door, Uncle Wang's figure appeared, carrying a thermal lunch box in his hand, his eyes gleaming.

"Something big has happened!"

He was old, after all; having run from the first floor to the third, he was panting as he spoke.

"Calm down, what happened?"

Chen Mo got off the bed and took the thermal lunch box from his hand.

"I was downstairs just now and heard a few nurses whispering that someone snuck into the morgue last night..."

"And then?"

"Th...then a girl's corpse was... you know."

He didn't quite know how to describe it because it was too explosive.

It completely subverted one's worldview.

Chen Mo instantly understood what "you know" referred to.

Rape of a corpse!

It was indeed explosive.

And illegal.

For someone who loved eating melons, the attraction of such an incident was simply too strong.

"What about now?" Chen Mo couldn't help but get nervous, fearing that the hospital would use their money power to suppress the matter.

Whether in his capacity as a police officer or as a melon-eating enthusiast, he was obligated to go take a look.

"I heard the nurses say the person has already been caught. Right now, security is holding him in the morgue, and the family has arrived too."

"Did you bring your ID?"

Uncle Wang nervously scanned Chen Mo's pockets.

This melon was extraordinary; he couldn't eat it without official status.

"I brought it."

[New melon 'Lust Demon' detected!]

[You have chosen to eat the melon, countdown 24 hours.]

[double melon-eating card activated.]

...

The morgue is also known as the mortuary or the body room.

It is basically located at the bottom of the hospital, and Central Hospital's is on the ground floor of the inpatient department.

As soon as they approached, the surrounding temperature instantly dropped below 10 degrees.

The hospital did this to maintain the freshness of the corpses and slow down decomposition.

The temperature inside the mortuary cabinets was even lower, basically hovering around 0 degrees.

"Who are you? Do you know what place this is?"

"Get out of here!"

Two security guards guarding the morgue entrance immediately spoke up to shoo them away.

They had received strict orders that no one was allowed near the morgue during this time.

More importantly, the leadership was currently negotiating a settlement with the victim's family; making a mistake at this time would lead to immediate firing.

"Police."

Chen Mo took out his ID from his pocket to reveal his identity.

"Didn't the leadership say not to call the police?"

The two security guards exchanged glances, confused by the situation.

"Isn't the person caught? Where is he?"

His gaze peered through the glass window into the morgue.

Inside, he saw a middle-aged couple and three doctors in white coats standing there.

In the corner, there was a man, likely around thirty years old, lying on the ground with his hands tied by rope and bruises all over his face; it was clear he had been beaten by the family.

"Settle, my ass!"

"My daughter was placed in your hospital, and this is how you look after her!"

The roar of the middle-aged man and the consolations of the three doctors faintly drifted out from the morgue.

And the man who caused all this was beaten up severely once more.

Under normal circumstances, he would have stepped in to stop it.

But since this man could be called a 'Lust Demon' by the system, it was clear he wasn't a good person.

If he could commit the act of raping a corpse, getting beaten up was just what he deserved!

During this time, the man was beaten many times. Seeing that he might die if they continued, Chen Mo finally stepped in and walked inside.

Under his mediation, the family ultimately chose to call the police to seek justice for their daughter, make the man pay the price, and simultaneously accept a cash compensation of 300,000 from the hospital.

This farce finally came to a temporary end.

[Melon-eating progress detected at 50%, reward 500 melon points!!!]

[double melon-eating card triggered, melon points doubled!!!]

Another thousand in the account, Chen Mo thought to himself.

It was a good thing he arrived in time, otherwise there would only be melon rinds left.

"Xiao Chen, look, what's going on here?"

Uncle Wang's slightly trembling voice sounded from behind Chen Mo.

Several people looked over upon hearing this.

They saw Uncle Wang standing in front of a bed, pointing at a dead person covered by a shroud.

"This... this curve is different from the others."

He wanted to back away and run, but his feet felt like they were filled with lead; no matter what commands he gave, they wouldn't move.

Commonly known as having his legs turned to jelly from fear.

Under his reminder, Chen Mo also discovered that something was wrong.

A normal corpse covered by a sheet should have a curve consistent with its height.

But the corpse in front of the old man was clearly a section shorter at the head.

It was as if it had no head; the curve ended at the neck.

"This is a hospital."

A doctor gave an explanation.

Even a minor car accident could leave a corpse in a mangled state.

These hospital leaders were long used to it.

Uncle Wang breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing this.

He wasn't afraid of corpses, just corpses with terrifying causes of death.

He hadn't even fully processed the corpse in the bathroom last time.

"That's not right, I haven't heard of any corpses recently that had this condition."

Just as he let out a sigh of relief and hadn't taken a few steps, the old man suddenly shuddered.

His legs went weak, and he was about to collapse to the ground when Chen Mo pulled him up.

After steadying him, he walked to the bed Uncle Wang had pointed to earlier and reached out to pull back the shroud.

He was a police officer and had Autopsy skills, so there was nothing improper about his actions at this moment.

The next second, the corpse came into his view.

There were multiple stab wounds on the body, and the chest cavity was sunken, as if it had been struck hard by a hammer.

And the area where the victim's neck connected to the head was a bloody mess.

"Ah!"

Several gasps of shock sounded from behind.

These were the terrified cries of that middle-aged couple and Uncle Wang.

Headless!

A headless corpse!

"Clack, clack, clack," several people retreated toward the door.

This was too horrifying!

The three leaders' reactions were slightly better; they didn't scream, but they didn't try to step forward either.

"The wounds were formed within the last 24 hours, but the corpse has been lying here for more than 24 hours."

He cast his gaze toward the three hospital leaders.

"Can you give me an explanation?"

The three leaders instantly felt unprecedented pressure bearing down on them.

Chen Mo's point was very simple.

The deceased was placed in here 24 hours ago, but the wounds were formed after 24 hours.

This meant that someone, during the time after the deceased was placed in the morgue, had stabbed the body multiple times and simultaneously removed the victim's head.

Their hospital bore undeniable responsibility.

Damn it!

Just finished dealing with one messy situation, and another one comes along.

"Your hospital's responsibility will be investigated later."

Chen Mo glanced at the three of them, then dialed Long Hao's number.
