107: Chapter 107 What goes around comes around
Bu Le sat paralyzed in a pool of blood, his hands deathly clutching his empty crotch, his body still twitching uncontrollably.
The earlier thrill of revenge had long since been swallowed by a bone-deep despair; he watched the clump of flesh on the ground, already blackened by dust, as tears mixed with snot flowed down, letting out a whimper like a wild beast.
"My little brother... my invincible little brother... I can never enjoy myself with the ladies again..."
E Kao was curled up to one side, his wings drooping powerlessly on the ground, his Face as pale as paper. He didn't even have the strength to cry anymore, only able to stare at the sky with hollow eyes, his throat occasionally letting out a raspy wail.
He was only in his twenties, the prime age for a life of pleasure, but from now on, he could only be a monster who was neither man nor woman, pointed at by others wherever he went.
Not to mention his hidden identity; he was of the Heaven Dou Imperial Bloodline, even if he was a lost commoner.
Tian Ya sat on the ground clutching his knees, his cleaver long since thrown aside, his disheveled hair covering his Face.
His shoulders twitched rhythmically; he didn't dare look up at anyone, nor did he dare think about his future.
The three of them had run rampant in Soto City for so many years, bullying countless people, and it had always been others who feared them. But now, they had become the most pitiable and ridiculous people in the world.
On the other side, Flender lay on the ground, his two broken arms drooping limply at his sides, the intense pain from his lower body making every breath feel like a knife cut. He looked at the gray sky above, and tears finally surged out, mixing with the blood and dust on his Face, flowing everywhere.
He regretted it.
He truly regretted it.
He regretted his impulsive decision years ago to open such a wretched academy; he regretted scamming those hopeful children for money against his conscience, taking high tuition fees while failing to provide even the most basic food, lodging, and safety; he regretted turning his back and running to save his own life in the Star Dou Great Forest, abandoning those students; he regretted pinning all his hopes on so-called "Geniuses" while never truly caring about the lives of those ordinary students.
If he hadn't opened this academy back then, if he had been a bit better to the students, if he hadn't been so greedy for money and Face, would he have ended up like this today? Would he have ended up with broken limbs and no descendants?
Zhao Wuji also woke up, the intense pain from his broken shoulder and lower body causing cold sweat to pour down his body. Looking at his empty left arm and then at Flender's miserable state nearby, this tough man who hadn't shed many tears in his life now had red eyes and let out a low whimper.
He regretted helping Flender bully those students back then, regretted beating the parents who came seeking justice out of the academy, and regretted living his whole life in a muddle, following Flender in doing so many wicked things.
Yu Xiaogang remained paralyzed in the distance, a large patch of his pants wet, his eyes so hollow they lacked a single spark of light.
How could this life turn out so wretched? It clearly wasn't supposed to be like this. Why did those people you dismissed come back to fight with their lives? If only they hadn't come back...
Just then, a burst of intermittent laughter suddenly rang out.
The laughter grew louder and louder, more and more resonant, until it finally turned into a roar of laughter; as they laughed, it turned back into a wail of sobbing.
It was Shi Lei and the others.
Dozens of victims who had shattered their spirit rings and become cripples stood together, supporting each other. Looking at the ruin of Shrek all over the ground, and seeing the tearful Flender and Zhao Wuji, they finally couldn't help but laugh out loud.
They laughed until they doubled over, laughed until tears flowed, laughed until their whole bodies shook, as if they wanted to completely release all the grievances, anger, and pain accumulated over these dozen or so years through this laughter.
"Hahaha... Hahaha..."
Shi Lei clutched his chest, laughing until he coughed, coughing up a mouthful of blood, yet he still couldn't stop: "Finally... we've finally had our revenge!"
"Hu-zi, Mother has avenged you! Mother has finally avenged you!" That white-haired old woman knelt on the ground and kowtowed three times toward the sky, crying heart-wrenchingly yet with a smile of relief, "May your soul in heaven find peace!"
"Brothers, do you see? We did it! We finally made these bastards pay the price!" A youth with a broken leg patted his companion's shoulder, weeping with a smile, "No more children will be deceived by them ever again, never again!"
They had shattered their own spirit rings, ruined their own Spirits, destroyed their futures, and even sacrificed most of their lifespans. But they had won.
They had used everything they had to exchange for a long-overdue justice, for the peace of those dead children, and to ensure that more children would not repeat their mistakes.
It was worth it!
No more regrets!
Even if they became ordinary people without the strength to lift a chicken from now on, even if they could only spend the rest of their lives in a sickbed, it was worth it.
The laughter gradually subsided. Shi Lei wiped the tears and blood from his Face and dragged his broken body step by step to stand before Flender.
Hearing the footsteps, Flender looked up and saw Shi Lei's cold gaze. He was instantly terrified and shook all over, struggling to retreat while incoherently begging for mercy: "I was wrong... I was truly wrong... please, I beg you to spare me... I'll give you all my money... I'll kowtow to you..."
As he spoke, he tried to struggle and kowtow, but his two arms were already useless and couldn't support his body at all. He could only squirm on the ground like a maggot, looking pathetic and wretched.
Shi Lei looked at this ugly display with not a hint of sympathy, only a cold sneer. He spat a mouthful of bloody phlegm onto Flender's Face, his voice raspy yet every word piercing the heart:
"What use is regret now? Where were you before?"
"When we brought our hard-earned money and walked into this academy full of hope, why didn't you regret it? When we were being hunted by Spirit Beasts in the Star Dou Great Forest and you turned and ran, abandoning us, why didn't you regret it? When our children died outside and you didn't even offer an apology, but instead beat us out of the academy, why didn't you regret it?"
"If we were the ones defeated today, would you have spared us? You would only have mocked us more, calling us trash and fools who didn't know their own strength! You would have thrown our corpses out to feed the dogs, and then continued running this wretched academy, deceiving more children and ruining more families!"
Flender was scolded into silence, only able to lie prone on the ground letting out whimpering cries, snot and tears mixing together and flowing all over the floor.
Shi Lei then turned to look at Zhao Wuji. Zhao Wuji didn't dare meet his gaze and could only lower his head, not daring to speak.
"Zhao Wuji, weren't you very good at fighting? Aren't you a Spirit Saint?" Shi Lei sneered, "When you were beating us back then, why didn't you think there would be a day like today? When you set dogs on that old mother, why didn't you think there would be a day like today?"
The white-haired old woman also walked over, pulled out that tattered Spirit Master Manual from her bosom, and slammed it hard against Yu Xiaogang's Face.
"Aren't you the continent's number one theoretical Great Master? Can't you train a Titled Douluo?" The old woman's voice carried a sob but was also incredibly cold, "Where is my son? Give me back my son! Give him back to me!"
Yu Xiaogang was hit by the manual but didn't even dare to move; he just shook all over, his mouth repeatedly muttering, "Mad... they've all gone mad..."
Shi Lei looked at these few people who were once high and mighty and insufferably arrogant, now lying on the ground like stray dogs wagging their tails for mercy, and the last shred of resentment in his heart dissipated.
He waved his hand and said to the companions behind him, "Let's go."
The dozens of victims supported each other and walked step by step out of Shrek's dilapidated gates.
No one looked back, and no one felt any lingering attachment.
Their lives were destroyed here, and they also found redemption here. From now on, they would never have to live in hatred again.
The spectating commoners silently made a path; no one spoke, and no one mocked them. Everyone looked with admiring gazes at this group of ordinary people who had used everything they had to trade for justice.
No one jeered anymore, and no one laughed. This revenge was too tragic, too heavy—so heavy that no one could bring themselves to smile.
In the courtyard, only Flender, Zhao Wuji, Yu Xiaogang, and the others remained, along with the blood, severed limbs, and those two shriveled black lace bras scattered across the ground.
The wind blew again, kicking up the dust on the ground and blowing across Flender's tear-streaked Face.
He finally understood that what goes around comes around!
...
